Poignant and relatable, the newest full length album from German emotional post hardcore band WATCHING TIDES wears ts heart on its sleeve. Sprawling and engrossing, the new release on This Charming Man Records maintains a complex persistence without being overly aggressive and incubates in the listener a need for more and more listens. Great job!
“This album is intense, almost too bombastic and precise to believe there are only three people on stage.” – comments the label. “To be honest, my big emo-times were the late 90s – midwest sound a la Crank or Caulfield, and since one year ago I had never heard of this Berlin three-piece.”
“”We’ve Been So Close – Yet So Alone“ is our first full length album we’re happy to release with This Charming Man Records. This record captures a retrospective to past relationships and friendships and is the attempt reflect these older times and cope with them.”
“Watching Tides fits more into the later wave of emotional hardcore, with atmospheric guitar layers like early Piano Become The Teeth, with a more edgy sound. Technique-wise they are very close to Cascet Lottery, with nice rhythms and a top notch drumming. You can find a bit of a grunge vibe as well, the singing reminds a bit of Tigers Jaw or Basement, without being too sympathetic. So if you dig these kinds of bands and imagine adding some punk as well, you might end up loving Watching Tides.”
