Today, alternative-punk band WAYS AWAY have released their sophomore album, Torch Songs, on Other People Records. Produced and mixed by Beau Burchell (Saosin) and mastered by Mike Kalajian at Rogue Planet, the eleven tracks on Torch Songs pack a punch – from fast, gritty punk tracks to more melodic numbers.

A product of the pandemic, the record explores themes of anti-capitalism and living in the current state of the world, as well as approaching more personal moments about love and loss.

From the opening chords of “I Got Low” it’s clear the emphasis of the band’s guitar work is a driving force of the album. “Heaven’s Lathe” accentuates warm tones while “Never Mind The Dog” delivers with sonic urgency. The band slows things down on “Happy With What I Have” as bountiful melodies are boosted by earnest lyrics of self-acceptance.

The dynamic of swift and steady continues throughout the record, making for a cohesive listening experience. More bouncy, punk-driven tracks like “The Only Living Boy In LA” and “Burn Me Out” are structured to surely be live show favorites.

Torch Songs ends with “Roll Back To You,” a heartfelt number that lives up to the textbook meaning of the album’s title. Torch Songs is available on vinyl now through Other People Records and streaming everywhere.

Ways Away is comprised of guitarist Sergie Loobkoff (Samiam, Knapsack, Racquet Club), vocalist/guitarist Jesse Barnett (Stick to Your Guns, Wish You Were Here), drummer Jared Shavelson (BoySetsFire, The Hope Conspiracy), and bassist Ian Smith (Racquet Club).

Catch the band live on November 4th in Los Angeles, CA @ Genghis Cohen, with Soft Blue Shimmer, Absinthe Father, Melted.
