While you might be acquainted with some of DIPLOID sick tunes through their 2015 split with COMA REGALIA (Middle-Man Records / Dingeberry Records / Red Panda Records), chances are you’ve yet to explore some of their newest tunes, released last year through Life.Lair.Regret Records and dubbed “Is God Up There?”. The blackened hardcore document was already released on tape in 2016, but we’re very pleased to officially announe its new vinyl version, brough to you by Contraszt! Records (white and white vinyls are up for pre-order at this location). “IGUD” pushes dark hardcore in a direction so uncomfortable for some of the old schoold punks it may cease to be the core genre at all! What’s crucial about their form is that DIPLOID’s work seem to be one of affect more so than of approach, rather than a pre-defined style or an identifiable stylistic choice. These guys manage to bring an impressive amount of collective influences to the table, making the whole record truly ferocious and definitely one of the best in the genre. It will dwell deep in your bones.
“Is God Up There?” is a quote from the son of Joseph Fitzel, it was the first word he said when he saw the sky for the first time, after he had spent his whole life in a basement. The album’s concept is exploring the justifications of people’s horrendous acts; such a death-cults, serial murder, mass murder, systematic death and broken systems. It also explores the personal turmoil of the person who commits such atrocities, and what lead them to take the path and make the decisions that had caused such great loss in life.
Catch the band live in Japan and South Korea this May! See the dates below:
