Atmospheric shoegaze / post metal act AT THE GRAVES paints gentle and evocative contrasts on his new record ‘Wrecked’

July 28, 2017
1 min read

Experimental music has always been all about overwhelming our senses through more spacious, cinematicm, slowly crawling, and almost scary arrangements that put it far from traditional sonic experience. Baltimore-based one-man sludgy, gloomy, shoegaze tinged post metal act AT THE GRAVES has just released a new album called Wrecked and it’s a well thought effort that transitions between quiet, atmospheric introspection to thick bursts of doom and back. “Wrecked” serves an entrancing and gorgeous introduction to the ethereal art of AT THE GRAVES and I dare to say it’s one of the finest dark, shivering metal offerings this year has offered so far.

At the Graves formed as an outlet for Ben Price’s desire to play guitar and a slower and more emotionally deep form of music than his more Slayer-leaning then-current band. After an album, a few tours and EPs, and a lot of lineup changes he decided to continue as a one-man band. The building nature of the music lent itself to the use of looping for guitar and bass parts and programmed drums sated Ben’s wanting of more precise percussion. He continues in 2017 with the Wrecked album.
