After an electrifying live performance of CARNIVORE material at this year’s Black N Blue Bowl pre-party, guitarist Marc Carnivore is thrilled to announce that the band will officially re-form as CARNIVORE A.D., with fellow original member Louie Beato and Joe Branciforte (ex-Darkside NYC, ex-Merauder) sharing drumming duties, and introducing Baron Misuraca (ex-Vasaria) on bass, lead vocals and blood curdling screams. Baron’s debut will take place at the band’s recently announced Halloween show, “A Halloween SteeleTacular,” at Bowery Electric (327 Bowery) in New York City on Halloween night (October 31, 2017). The show is 21+, begins at 7:00 PM, and tickets start at $20. Additional monstrous support will be supplied by NJ’s Bloodfeast, the mesmerizing and magical Black Sabbath tribute band Sabbra Cadabra, Legendary L’amour DJ Alex Kayne, and other special guests TBA.
The Bowery Electric bash will mark this year’s final, official celebration of the 30th anniversary of Peter Steele’s thrash-core masterpiece, Retaliation, with provocative tracks, “Jesus Hitler” and “Race War” coming to life to join today’s headlines, just as fresh and topical as the day they were first released in 1987. Official event DJ and longtime friend of Carnivore, Alex Kayne, will create an atmospheric audio-visual tribute to Peter Steele, the early beginnings of Carnivore at L’amour, and of the band’s second rise to prominence during Type O Negative’s golden run.
The show will include an after party with a VIP Meet & Greet available ($40), and feature Kayne spinning danceable heavy tracks by the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, The Cult, Rammstein, Ministry and more. A “Carnivorous Halloween Costume Contest” will take place, with meaty prizes like Kim Kardashian’s liposuction fat and real live blood from each band member. Rare photographs and “Carnivorous artifacts” (such as Peter Steele’s original handwritten Carnivore lyrics) will be displayed.
The classic “Retaliation line-up” of the band is re-forming as Carnivore A.D., out of great respect to Peter Steele’s legacy while simultaneously distinguishing themselves from past incarnations of the band.
Marc Carnivore states:
“Last May, I was very fortunate to perform Carnivore music live again for the very first time in over 20 years. The jubilant and humbling reception I received confirmed to me that Peter Steele is gone, but his epic legacy is not forgotten. So this Halloween the two remaining original members of Carnivore, myself and Louie Beato, will open up the next chapter in the band’s ever evolving history. We will introduce the mighty Baron Misuraca, who’s stature and beastly growls have already awakened Peter Steele fans across the globe. A new official line-up of Carnivore will be introduced: ‘Carnivore A.D.’, a Carnivore for the 21st century. Everyone is invited to join us in this celebration, and to mark the 30th anniversary of Carnivore’s final LP, Retaliation. I am also very pleased to have the honor of presenting this distinguished performance of Peter and Keith’s music to their own friends and family members here in the greatest city in the world, at New York’s Bowery Electric club. The ‘Carnivorous Negative family scene’ is finally whole once again, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.”

Australian Central Coast metallic hardcore band CHOKE release an outstanding new 7” called “Desire”, full of meaty riffs and beats, packed with some of the most defiant energy we’ve seen this year. The record is out now on Resist Records.
This record relates to the importance of acknowledging self-destructive behaviours and attempting to self-correct and improve. Until this is done nothing can change.
Composed between and throughout bouts of physical and mental duress Desire is a story told in four parts. Desire thematically revolves around realisation and acceptance and is a glimpse into the often complicated and challenging process of personal growth.
Desire is musically more metallic and heavier than previous Choke releases. Tinges of death and thrash metal combine with the band’s previous powerviolence and punk influences to form an even bleaker and grinding musical landscape than the one found on 2016’s ‘Left With Nothing’ LP.
To achieve the desired audio assault the band enlisted Taylor Young (Nails, Twitching Tongues, Xibalba) to mix, Dan Randall (Left For Dead, Magrudergrind, 86 Mentality) to master and Luke Dolan (The Dead Walk!, Life.Love.Regret, Arms Reach) to provide a guest vocal appearance.
Desire brings to a close almost two years of trying to get better. Getting better by accepting the past, letting go and moving forward.

Philadelphia’s CARACARA have just announced their debut album Summer Megalith, set to be released on Flower Girl Records on September 22nd. The band is now premiering their new song from the album “Crystalline” via The Alternative. Pre-orders for Summer Megalith can be found via Flower Girl Records. We featured the band with another great tune earlier this Summer – go here to check it out.
Caracara is a product of conversations. It began as a collaboration between Carlos Pacheco Perez and Sean Gill of Square Peg Round Hole and William Lindsay and George Legatos who had recently closed up shop as W. C. Lindsay. The idea was to make dynamic music that whispers as much as it screams. Harsh and dense mid ranges, blaring horns, romantic strings. Everything was a back and forth- George and I have always played by feel and written by ear, while Carlos and Sean come from strict traditional conservatory backgrounds. We wanted our band to serve as a conversation between our respective histories.
Caracara, our songs and our recordings could also not have come about without conversations between myself and Jacob Ewald. Jake and I traded off book and music recommendations, I was living in an old apartment of his, an early version of caracara was jamming and writing in The Metal Shop, Jake’s Philly studio. He helped me come to terms with the ending of a project I had put 5 years of my life into. Many of the lyrical sketches that eventually became Caracara songs were inspired by books that I had given jake, and the impetus to drop everything and dive fully into this new band came from books jake had recommended to me. When it came time to record, he was our obvious choice for producer. (this part should be vague since we haven’t announced an LP) We basically moved into his studio for a week of sweltering august sessions, during which the varying influences at play pushed us all well out of our comfort zones and into a new way of thinking about what we were creating. The time feels like a blur to me, I’ve never focused so hard on anything in my life.

Alt emo indie rockers CITIZEN release new single and music video called ‘In the Middle of It All’. The band’s third album, ‘As You Please’, will be released on September 8th via Run for Cover Records.
Swedish metal/hardcore hybrid GOD MOTHER drop new track “De Ovälkomna”; a prime slice of the band’s “audio violence,” the song appears on upcoming new album Vilseledd, out September 29th on Party Smasher Inc.:
On new album Vilseledd, God Mother packs hardcore, grind, sludge, and noise into lethal projectiles, fueled by bilingual lyrics denouncing society’s ignorance, in both Swedish and English. The sound is electrifying – inspired as much by the grinding speed of Nasum and Rotten Sound as by the almighty weight of the Melvins.
Frontman Sebastian August Campbell explains the song, which features guest vocals by Jonas Holmberg and Patrik Andersson of fellow Swedes This Gift Is A Curse:
“The idea of the lyrics came from one of our tours in northern Sweden during the winter, where the days are short and the night is always looming. Some days, even farther up north, the sun doesn’t show face at all. Winter depression is a real factor in Scandinavia. This song is a praise for the crawling chaos behind the veil of civilized human society that lives after the sun’s hours.”
Vancouver, BC blood-brother rock duo SMASH BOOM POW drop a cool, raw garage rock tune called “Way Too Much”
The new song ‘Way Too Much’ from Vancouver, BC blood-brother duo Smash Boom Pow showcases their ability to hide raw hooks inside a nest of razor blade overdrive and pounding drums. The track is the first from their upcoming sophomore EP which is due out later this year. The alt-pop project is already gaining traction with the release of their debut EP last year and plan on continuing the momentum with the new EP and an LP in the works. Listening to the track is like watching a grainy 8mm picture, primitive in form, but there’s a vibrant world found in the details. The new offering distills frenetic energy into a hook filled garage pop number, making sure ‘Way Too Much’ invades your brain as you pump your fists to the heavens.
Here’s vocalist Ulysses’ thoughts on the track:
It was cathartic and therapeutic all at once, as well as satisfying for me as an indie rock fanboy. When I sing “you’re asking way too much of me” it’s not about an unreasonable labour request, but rather unfair emotional demands and the psychic damage they can inflict. My personal experience of this conflict was confusing to say the least. On one hand you have love for someone and are inclined to compromise for the sake of the relationship, on the other you’ve gotta be true to your experience and set the record straight. I’m not about living a lie.

Canadian punk rock band MANDSBRIDGE release their debut LP debut LP ‘Juxtapose’. These guys combine lyrical themes of struggle, anger, and reflection with a backdrop of melodies and harmonies that can melt butter on bread. The unique dualling chord-work of both guitarists is stitched together with a rhythm section that keeps it lean and mean. This record asks the questions “has the digital advancement in the way we express and consume art changed our ability to have a lasting emotional attachment to a memory? Has this clouded our judgement to only envision instant success and then just give up? What can bring us back from being an emotional automaton? Where is my goddamn coffee?”

Quebec City melodic punk rockers GO GREAT GUNS are excited to announce the release of their debut self-titled album. Scheduled for release on September 15th, the 8-track album will be available via Thousand Islands Records on all digital and streaming platforms, as well as on compact discs. The band is currently streaming not one but four tracks from it, give the album opener “Collateral” below.
Pre-orders for both digital and CD are available on Bandcamp. Go Great Guns will be sharing the stage on release day with highly acclaimed spanish shredders Adrenalized, details HERE.
In the spring of 2015, shortly after he found an old demo he had composed and self-recorded under de strange pseudonym Matt-Ô-Batt, Mathieu started seeking for other musicians interested in forming a rock band in Quebec city. Within weeks, Jeff (bass), Alex (vocals, guitars) and PL joined Mathieu (guitars) and founded Go Great Guns. They quickly found out they shared a lot of influences, like 90’ punk rock or bands like Thrice, Rise Against and Alexisonfire, to name only a few. After spending some time working on covers and songs from the demo, they soon felt the need to create new material. Two years after its foundation, Go Great Guns is proud to present its debut album, characterised by a heavy sound, fast and engaging rythms, shredding guitars and catchy vocal melodies.
Boston, MA garage punks BLACK BEACH are set to release Play Loud Die, Vol. II in September, an EP that they recorded with Paul Kolderie (Dinosaur Jr., Hole, Pixies) and the follow up to the band’s recent split with Nice Guys. The trio have pulled back from their “always at 10” approach to blown out fuzz, opting for more dynamics while making their sound all the more visceral in the process. One of the Boston underground’s best and most explosive new bands, Black Beach have added nuance to their menace, and they are only getting better in doing so. Adhoc magazine shared, “their new video for “Nothing’s Golden,” the final track off their upcoming release, Play Loud, Die Vol. 2, echoes the song’s minimalist approach, all while harking back to the genre’s trademark loud-soft dynamics … The track’s understated verses explode into propulsive choruses, accompanied by images of worms crawling around in the caved-in skulls of baby dolls.” Get spooky.
The band’s Ben Sementa shared:
“The video and song kinda explains that initial shock of learning that something isn’t as good as it appears on the surface, and the way people tend to either be naive to how things actually are or choose to ignore them. The video was inspired by some old Dinosaur Jr videos, like “Freak Scene,” and some horror movies. It’s like a spooky “Freak Scene.”
