Brighton melodic punk rockers HARKER have shared a new music video today for their single ‘Nancy Downs’. The track is taken off of the band’s debut album No Discordance, out now through Disconnect Disconnect, Shield Recordings and Wiretap Records.
Commenting on the meaning behind the song and its video, vocalist and guitarist Mark Boniface said: “Lyrically the song is about facing your problems head on instead of digging holes and burying your head in the sand. This video is a throwback to the days of VHS – where the B movie ruled, and a trip to the rental store meant either finding a total gem or bomb. The footage is taken from ‘Mystics in Bali’ an 80s public domain Indonesian film we’ve been particularly obsessed with lately. We cut with scenes from the film, we’ve overlaid the lyrics on top with the best classic VHS font we could find”.
Harker have also revealed details of a series of Japanese tour dates beginning in March 2019. The tour will bring the quartet to venues in Yokohama, Shimokitazawa, Uguisudani & Nagoya in support of ‘No Discordance’ which was given a Japanese release through Fixing A Hole Records in February of this year.
Building on previous EP’s, the album has received rave reviews for its amped-up take on the Midwestern punk rock of bands like The Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World. Harker go at it hard and their sharp guitar-led anthems have as much to say instrumentally as they do lyrically, drawing comparisons to not only pop-punk favourites but also the more seasoned influences of artists like Husker Du, Buffalo Tom, and Dinosaur Jnr.
Melodic hardcore punk rockers MILLENCOLIN are streaming their new song and video “SOS”, coming from their new LP “SOS“, available Feburary 15th via Epitaph. Century Media Records are proud to announce a partnership with WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM and their own label Artemisia Records to release their upcoming albums in the world outside of North America.
The band from Olympia, Washington just finished an US tour with Behemoth and their new label mates At The Gates and will conquer Europe with the same package in early 2019.
The band comments: “Century Media has brought forth so many killer albums over the years and it’s inspiring to become a part of this legendary metal label. We are writing what will become the seventh WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM album now! We have complete faith in Century Media to deliver our music to our beloved European Wolfcult. Onward!“
Jens Prueter, Head of A&R, Century Media Europe comments: “I’m a fan since I first saw them at the Roadburn Festival in 2008. I love how they have developed their own identity of Cascadian black metal. The Pacific North West of Cascadia might bear similarities to the Norwegian origins of black metal but they went their own path to create a musical vision beyond genre definitions – which earns them my biggest respect. I am looking forward to accompany them on their future endeavors!”
Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, The Lurking Fear) also wants to welcome his new label mates: “WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM is a band that I have always respected and held in high regard, due to the amount of ambition that goes into their work. I feel a real kindred spirit when I dive into their albums, this melancholic desperation that carries a heavy weight of honesty is right down my alley. Having shared stages with them all across North America this winter just made me more of a fan. They put so much effort into everything they do and are very sincere in their art. I was super happy to hear that we have now also become label mates here in Europe! That means that they are in good hands and also that I can keep easier track of their doings:) Congratulations WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, congratulations Century Media Records Europe! ”
Founded in 2002 by the brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM re-imagine black metal as an ode to rain storms, wood smoke and the wild energies of the Pacific Northwest. Their first studio album, “Diadem of 12 Stars” (2006) was a genre-dissolving classic that created a melancholy and psychedelic Cascadian atmosphere.
Since that time, they have become one of the most potent and highly regarded bands in extreme music. The listener encounters crystalline metal riffs and ritualistic laments that sing of endless rain falling upon ancient cedars. Their music is a doorway into a mythic ethereal heathen landscape entered through music, magic and dreams.
At the dawning of their latest album “Thrice Woven” (2017), long-time touring guitar player Kody Keyworth was welcomed as a full band member. The album received high praise from the press and the band received the 2018 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Underground Band. Check out the video for “Born From the Serpent’s Eye” directed by metal documentarians Peter Beste and Nico Poalillo. The journey continues. Onward!

Nashville, Tennessee-based duo THETAN makes its crushing return following a four-year hiatus from releasing new material, with their second full-length, Abysmal, through Anti-Corporate Music on February 1st. The album’s first single, “Singularity,” sees its premiere through Svbterranean as preorders and the album’s details are divulged to the public.
THETAN spawned from the remnants of Nashville hardcore band Sanctions in 2011. Opting to forgo finding a new guitar player, and move forward as a two-piece, they recorded their first EP, Welcome To Whine Country, a mere three months after their first band practice. Since then, the outfit has released an LP titled Laughed At By The Gods, five split releases including splits with Bleed The Pigs, Bible Thumper, and others, as well as several singles, compilation tracks, and more.
Carrying on their legacy of creating point-blank, depressive, powerviolent hardcore, THETAN delivers Abysmal, deploying eighteen pulverizing songs of abusive hardcore in just as many minutes. Abysmal is an intense offering which sees the band simultaneously exploring new territory with more nuanced stylings, though never straying from the pulverizing delivery that they have adopted for the past years. fans of Nails, Weekend Nachos, Dead In The Dirt, Hatred Surge, Die Choking, and the like should investigate the blasting ways of Abysmal. The vinyl version of Abysmal is rounded out with animated vinyl etchings done at Black Matter Mastering, fully complimenting the sonic chaos.
Svbterranean is now streaming the succinct and devastating “Singularity,” declaring, “Abysmal is a raw, hyper-speed hardcore record that pumps out eighteen tracks of drum and bass violence in eighteen abrasive minutes. Fans of Charles Bronson, Spazz, Coke Bust, and the like, should take note. In anticipation of its release, we at Svbterranean bring you the debut single from the forthcoming record, ‘Singularity.’ This short burst of fury clocks in just shy of eighty seconds and features equal parts hardcore groove and noisy, grinding mayhem.”
The band offers of the song, “‘Singularity’ was the first song written for this album. It actually went through a coupleof complete lyrical revisions, though the subject matter has remained the same. It is about our complete reliance on technological integration. Technology drives every aspect of human existence, from agriculture to medicine to media and entertainment. As a species we would be lost without it. In time we may find ourselves in debt to the things we have created.”
California pop-punk/emo quartet CALMGROVE has released a brand new single. “Keep Close” comes as the follow up to the band’s breakout anthem “Retrace”, which dropped over the summer. The band spoke exclusively to Already Heard, to discuss the new video.
Formed in early 2018 on the outskirts of Los Angeles, Calmgrove belies their inexperience with a well-honed balance of pop-punk and emo, delivering with an assured cohesion, grit and honesty. As first seen on March’s debut single “Lifelong”, Calmgrove’s elements of urgency intertwine with hook-heavy melodies and edgy punk tones.
Nods to Southern California pop-punk of yesteryear, with the execution of their more angst-laden contemporaries, Calmgrove has worked hard playing shows across California, earning a reputation as a regional workhorse in the process.
As 2018 draws to a close, the 5-piece continues to diligently spread their sound across the region, with a number of winter shows, including a support with genre mainstays In Her Own Words. Following on from the release of sophomore single “Retrace”, “Keep Close” gives Calmgrove’s quickly increasing band of fans another dose of emotive pop-punk.
Warped Tour will return in 2019. Founder Kevin Lyman stated:
“Plans are coming together for @VansWarpedTour 25th only thing I can say for now since many need to hold vacations dates are June 8 Cleveland, June 29-30 eastcoast, July 20-21 westcoast.”
