Moment of Collapse Records and Zegema Beach Records have unveiled the details of the newest split between NY screamo act LYTIC (ex SAETIA, ex OFF-MINOR) and Italian screamo act SHIZUNE. The full stream has been unveiled via Open Mind / Saturated Brain zine. GO HERE to check it out.
20 years ago a band called Saetia established their own brandmark, when it comes to emotional hardcore, within the diy scene. The band split up and left a massive impact. Later a couple of the involved individuals went on to play music in Hot Cross or Off Minor. Meanwhile these bands split up as well.
The year 2019 marks the first vinylrelease of Lytic from New York, including Seatia and Off Minor founding member Jamie Behar. The band was formed back in 2015. Finally they recorded a couple of songs. For this, Lytic teamed up with Steve Roche, who also played in Saetia and Off Minor. Three of those songs can be found on this tiny split-seveninch.
Lytic lifts off where former bands of Jamie ended. A brilliant guitarwriting with the typical melodic and jazzy touches, plus a significant drumming, are setting the foundation of this two headed formation. What is making Lytic to a new experience, is the use of a baritone-guitar and the partways different sounding vocals. All in all Lytic play an interesting sound, that is throwing you directly back to the late 90âs.On the other side we have Shizune from Lonigo/Italy. They are around since 2011 and already put out a lot of releases, including two albums and a bunch of singles and epâs. The sound of Shizune is strongly influenced by their italian fellows Raein and La Quite. Catchy guitarrhythms , heartfelt vocals and forward driving drums, all on a punky edge, are characteristic for what the band is doing.
This split is a celebration of a friendship between two bands, that are divided by the ocean, but share the same passion for a music that still has itâs say.
Watch out all you lovers of Saetia, Raein, Off Minor, La Quiete, Funeral Diner, Lickgoldensky etc.
Michiganâs experimental post hardcore rockers LA DISPUTE are teasing their new LP Panorama with a new single and video âFOOTSTEPS AT THE PONDâ. Watch below.
The track sees the post-hardcore five-piece lean into their feelings. Jordan Dreyerâs lyrics are battered and chaotic as he recites unfulfilled needs of a past relationship with the usual biting intensity of his spoken word. This time, the accompanying video was animated by London game designer Daisy Fernandez. Rightfully, it has a video game-like feel, as a character navigates an expansive labyrinth to help a white bull find its way out. – Stereogum
Singer Jordan Dreyer commented for Fader:
Footsteps at the pond. Bootprints in snow on hills sloped downward toward water and toward broken ice. Had that vision all summer in the same place driving back and forth between homes while we were writing. This song is about reckoning with flaws, about letting the best people down, about nearly drowning but for them.
Swedish shoegazin’ rockers WESTKUSTÂ are back with their new single “Swebeach” and their second long player “Westkust” that arrives March 1st via Through Love Records, Luxury (SWE) and Run For Cover Records (US).
From the opening salvo of their self-titled sophomore LP, Westkustâs mission is clear: envelop the listener with sunny, soaring melodies cascading through upbeat walls of sound, all the while imbuing the songs with their own unique sense of cool. Opener âSwebeachâ immediately announces the album like announcing spring has arrived – with a warm, ringing-alarm guitar riff soon met by vocalist/guitarist Julia Bjernelindâs atmospheric croon.
With amped up production, the Gothenburg, Sweden quartet continue navigating the infectious and layered dream pop that made their 2015 album Last Forever so memorable and fun. In the four years since the RFC/Luxury-issued Last Forever (which included Pitchfork-approved Best New Track Swirl), Westkust have undergone a transformation anchored in friendship, providing the upbeat undercurrent to the new album. Following the departure of three of the quintetâs members (including two they shared with fellow Gothenburg band and labelmates Makthaverskan), vocalist Julia Bjernelind also assumed guitar duties alongside guitarist/vocalist Brian Cukrowski and drummer Philip SĂśderlind and added Pär Karlsson on bass.
âWe wanted to make songs that just feel good to listen to,â says Bjernelind. âThe thing that holds this band together is the friendship weâve had for several years. We love playing together and enjoy each others company which still makes it fun.â The warmth of that friendship shines throughout the record. Songs shift from the fast and driving opening trio of Swebeach/Rush/Drive to the mellow, Ride-inspired track Daylight with finesse, capturing an array of moods and moments with ease. Second single Cotton Skies pulls the band into twee territory, bringing a laid back tambourine rhythm into the mix before soaring off again with an anthemic guitar riff. As the record continues to blossom and deliver one memorable melody after another, Westkust becomes the feeling of stepping outside eyes closed feeling the first warm sunshine on your skin – carrying with it with all the promise and joy of the coming sea
