CLEANSING, formed by four members around the Finnish hardcore scene, are strongly breathing life to their beliefs with a straight edge – driven mixture of metal and hardcore. Influences adapted from multiple genres and eras are clearly present in the music, such as their debut The Pleasures That Lead, released last September. Ever since then, the band has been writing new material and playing shows in Finland, Sweden & Denmark.
“Nothing” is the first taste out from the upcoming EP, Dark Current to be released on July 24th through Bound By Modern Age Records. With the new song, the band introduces a more defined, gloomier sound both musically and lyrically. “Nothing” follows a repeating pattern of emptiness; being stuck on your old ways, not being able to see who is hurting from your actions; being stuck to the bottle like a dog in a leash. Alongside the rest of the EP, the music grows further and the themes delve deeper; surrendering the listener to the dark current.
Bound By Modern Age Records comments: The fulminant follow-up EP to what undeniably turned out to be one of the best edge-metal demos of the year. Unyielding 90s style metalcore from Finland by members of Baron, Long Gone, etc.

Recording, mixing and mastering by Timi Jetsu
As their new release, Dark Current, to be released in July 24th, takes the band’s themes and songs to a more cold, dismal place, while still accomplishing a polished, mature sound overall, the band sets forth to grow and improve even further.
The recording and the release of Dark Current on July 24th through Bound By Modern Age Records, the second EP for the band. The band had also booked multiple shows throughout the spring and summer in Finland with both domestic and foreign bands before the unfortunate situation regarding COVID-19. In addition to the new release, the band has been starting the writing process for their first full-length album.
Finnish hardcore scene
The Finnish hardcore scene has been steadily reshaping itself for the last few years, with many bands of different genres making their way inside the scene. Familiar faces can be seen in every city where shows are booked. The frequency of shows has varied depending on the active bookers. Luckily, they have succeeded in bringing multiple foreign bands here. Also worth noting is the new generation of hardcore and metal kids, who have started coming to the shows and forming bands.
COVID-19 pandemic
The band had many shows planned for the first half of the year and possible album release parties for the Dark Current EP. One by one, every organized show got canceled or postponed for an undetermined later date. Naturally, the pandemic has had an effect on everyone in our music scene, especially bands like ours who live cities apart. Quarantine regulations have prevented our chances to practice together and therefore kept us from seeing our friends; from the bands and from the scene overall.
We do have something planned to lift up the mood, and offer something for people to enjoy from their homes; a livestream show on June 13th also containing songs from the new EP. We still hope that everyone stays safe and does their part in getting us all through these times. Support each other, listen to your favourite bands, and enjoy the things that matter to you the most. We wish everyone a pleasant summer and hope you enjoy our new single and upcoming EP.
Other bands and artists worth a check
