Hungarian emo / alternative rock band BERLIOSE are joining us today for a special premiere of their new zombie themed music video for their song “Lungtrust”, directed by Tobai Botond, and their special firt-hand commentary about their work.
“Berliose formed in 2016.” – says the band. “After a long rehearsing and songwriting period, we released our first album ‘Sleep Without You‘ in 2018. Other than the drums, the entirety of the album was recorded, mixed/mastered, and released by the band itself. However tedious this work was, we felt strongly about starting DIY and experiencing this process for ourselves.”
As members of the band come with slightly different musical influences rooted in grunge, emo, and alternative rock music, with BERLIOSE, they have managed to create a unique combination of these genres.
“We could mention bands such as Modest Mouse, Brand New, and Citizen as main influences at this time.” – they continue.

“Continuing the DIY approach, we made 3 music videos with the help of our great friend and photographer, Norbert MΓ©szΓ‘r.”
“We also started playing gigs all around Hungary. To bring more life to our stage presence, we carried a handmade egobox – a box with a pressure-activated spotlight -, and background lights with us, to all of our concerts. Recently, we also welcomed a second guitarist to the band, in order to improve our live performances.”
As most of the bands, BERLIOSE spent last year writing music.
:As a resulf of this, we recorded 2 songs already, one of which is ‘Lungtrust’, which we are releasing now.” – comments the band.
“The other one is coming later this year. With our first album, we were experimenting a lot, but now we feel we found a more refined style that fits the band better. We could mention nu-metal and 2000’s emo as main genres, and bands such as My Chemical Romance, Deftones, or Bring Me The Horizon as main influences.”
“We feel that our new song ‘Lungtrust‘ is already an example of this change. The title of the song doesn’t have a particular meaning, but represents a kind of underwater vibe that we felt during the song and the lyrics, which we tried to represent through the music video as well. Lyrically, the song is more about the mundane problems of everyday life and not wanting to annoy anyone with complaining about them. We think it is important to be honest, and tell someone about your struggles, however insignificant they might seem.”
“The music video (directed by Botond Tobai) that accomponies the song is meant to serve more as a mood video, rather than a straight-forward narrative; however, we think the somewhat surreal, grotesque visuals are a great metaphor for how weighed down, suffocated we can feel sometimes, even when the outside world is in in stark contrast with our feelings. Oh, and we also really like Twin Peaks.”
