Cornwall’s SICK AGAIN blend rock, emo and punk influences in powerful new single “Rip City”

1 min read

Taliesin and Rory Leboutillier, the brotherly duo behind SICK AGAIN, are back with their second and final LP, releasing on September 6th, 2024. Today, we premiere their second single, “Rip City,” an intricate fusion of influences and a fine demonstraiton of their evolution over 23+ years in the music scene.

“Rip City” stands out as a pivotal track in SICK AGAIN’s discography and it’s available for streaming now!

As Taliesin recounts, it was one of the earliest compositions post their first album. “This track blends our Silverchair-influenced sound with heavier, slightly technical parts. The second half reflects my admiration for And So I Watch You From Afar”, especially in its drumming and overall vibe. The first half, with its straightforward and catchy verses, nods to Green Day,” he explains.

Recorded and engineered by Tom Hill at The Bookhouse Recording Studio in London, the album boasts a collaborative production effort between Hill and the band. Special contributions include cello parts by Gordon Withers on “Ocean” and “Club & Fang,” and additional bass on the latter by Hill himself. The mixing by Hill and mastering by Dan Coutant at Sunroom Audio in New York ensures a polished yet raw soundscape.

The album’s visual identity, crafted by Cat Sims and conceptualized by Taliesin, captures the atmosphere, with many details that truly catch the eye.

While Taliesin has a rich history with bands like GOODTIME BOYS, WE CAME OUT LIKE TIGERS, and NO OMEGA, SICK AGAIN stands as a unique project that melds 90s post-hardcore influences from QUICKSAND, FAR, and various alt rock bands with their distinct sound. This record, in particular, marks a significant chapter in their musical journey, reflecting their roots and growth.
