Leibniz, a Brighton–based grungecore trio, isn’t what the album cover might suggest—this isn’t black metal from the depths of Norwegian obscurity. Instead, think Smashing Pumpkins fused with the raw, gritty edge of post-hardcore, with a touch of late-’80s Nirvana dirt.
Their new single, “Shut Up the World,” from the forthcoming EP Lifetime Patient, is dropping today, and it’s not pulling any punches. With frantic energy and relentless pace, it encapsulates the overstimulation of a world that feels impossible to navigate.
Rooted in lead singer Erin Munn’s personal experience with ADHD, the song’s chaotic tension reflects the frustration of neurodivergence in a society that isn’t designed for it. “I was literally having a meltdown when I wrote Shut Up the World,” says Erin. “It’s about the overwhelming need to shut everything out, but instead, all you can do is scream.”

Leibniz made a name for themselves locally as part of Small Pond’s Emerging program in 2024, and Shut Up the World solidifies their place as a powerful new voice on the scene. With its crashing drums, snarling guitars, and raw vocal delivery, this track offers a glimpse into the upcoming EP’s deeper themes—neurodivergence, trauma, transgender liberation, and mental health.
