There’s a sense of history imbued into every note Zeta plays, a weight that feels both ancestral and immediate. With roots tracing back to a small Venezuelan town by the Caribbean Sea, the band has spent over two decades weaving together genres and influences that span continents and cultures.
On Was It Medicine to You?, their upcoming album, Zeta brings their musical pilgrimage full circle—this time with an English-only lyrical landscape and a clear focus on privilege and social imbalance.
Their latest single, “Privilege,” premiering today, is an unflinching look at the inherent inequality baked into the system. Zeta’s fury is palpable. They delve into the hollow nature of surface-level positivity, exposing how it blinds people to others’ suffering.

This song doesn’t mince words, nor does it offer any illusions about comfort. It’s a visceral expression of disillusionment, wrapped in Zeta’s signature blend of Afro-Latino rhythms and cross-genre intensity.
Musically, “Privilege” is as layered as its message. The thunderous drumming, combined with Zeta’s intricate polyrhythms, brings out a kind of sonic defiance, pulling listeners through shifting time signatures and relentless energy. Afro-Caribbean influences sit beside post-rock crescendos, creating an experience that demands your attention. As always, their music is both a call to arms and a moment of introspection.
The new album, set for release on January 9th, 2025, brings guest appearances from Anthony Green and Pierce Jordan of Soul Glo, further solidifying the collaborative spirit that has defined Zeta’s long journey. On tracks like “Steps” and “The Truth,” Zeta invites these vocalists into their sonic palette, blending voices and styles into a cohesive, powerful statement. The result is an album that feels both personal and political—an exploration of identity, migration, and collective struggle.
Zeta’s ability to blend the deeply personal with the universal is a hallmark of their sound. Their ethos is clear: music is more than an art form. It’s a force for connection, a way to break down cultural divides and heal old wounds.
As they embark on a two-month tour across the U.S. with Hail The Sun, the album’s themes will be brought to life on stage. See the full itinerary below.
