Alt emo act VIEWFINDER premiere new single “How Long” – listen!

1 min read

VIEWFINDER (formerly known as Bridges Will Break) stands at the crossroads of emo, shoegaze, and post-rock, blending confessional vocals with an airy, expansive compositional style, while skillfully retaining the immediacy of the three-minute pop-friendly song structure. Voices Echo revolves around themes of balancing nostalgic longing with the need to move forward, an idea that never relinquishes its relevance no matter when it’s explored.

“How Long”, the band’s newest track we’re premiering below, is the second track and second single from Voices Echo.

“We hope it shows the balance of chugging energy, emotional resonance, and raw honesty that we’re always striving for.” – comments the band. “We’re proud to share this track with listeners, and also to reveal a bit of behind-the-scenes info and images, which we’ve included below.”

Further commentary by the band:

In early 2022, after writing for a year in isolation during the pandemic, we all managed to get together for a full week to record Voices Echo, our debut full-length album as Viewfinder. Locked away at Swadley Studios we ate more chimichangas than four people sharing one bathroom should.

On the first day, God created drums. Joey spent 14 hours in the live room and burned 1600 calories, which is the equivalent of 4 mid-tier orange theory workouts. We managed to snap this quick picture of Joey playing his C&C drums in real time.

TV’s Danny Henderson was up next up next on bass and managed to pump out his takes in a little under 4 hours. When asked about his experience, he described it as quote-unquote, “Cool.”

On day 2, Zach’s beloved AC30/6 TBX suffered a blown speaker from too much rockin’ and-a-rollin’. After a quick turnaround, we managed to record all of the guitars for the album on days 2.5 and 3. Jared and Zach even built a super-sized pedal board for the occasion.

Day 4 was vocal day. As a collective, we all worked together to write lyrics for the album. We felt that we could only make each of our voices heard on this release if we all contributed to the writing process. At the age of 33 Zach discovered the convenience of the Notes app and spent hours upon hours in the live room transferring lyrics from text messages to himself over to the notes app.

Once we’d completed recording, Jared the Lakewood Landslide, who enjoys a nice Simply Spiked on a sunny afternoon, spent the rest of the week editing, mixing, and mastering our album for the first time. Months later, after innumerable sleepless nights, countless revisions, and plenty of tears, Voices Echo emerged.

We are so excited to be releasing our debut full length, Voices Echo on October 7th, 2022. For years we played under the name Bridges Will Break, and we released 4 albums before the pandemic. With a lineup change and a new direction, we felt it was best to move forward under our new name, Viewfinder.
