BEING AS AN OCEAN – “Dissolve” video

5 mins read

San Diego, CA’s melodic hardcore / rock band BEING AS AN OCEAN has signed to Equal Vision Records and is now premiering a new song and music video for “Dissolve”! The video was produced by guitarist Tyler Ross and labelmate Daniel Wand, of CAPSIZE.

Lyrics:

Tin cans, recycled air, end the minstrels’ roam
Reunite body and mind
The walls left broken and crumbling
Oh but what did you expect, gone for seasons at a time
I’ve closed my eyes to dream
Woken only to have lost the spring
To bags, cases, and hearts on our sleeves
Held them high so they could watch them bleed

And I wear my heart on my sleeve
So you can watch it bleed
Watch it bleed
Watch it bleed

From up here the land, a patchwork quilt
Sewn together by arthritic hands
Pursuit of passion; persistent guilt
Anxious for loving embrace
Dissolve this ache I’ve felt

And I wear my heart on my sleeve
So you can watch it bleed
Watch it bleed
Watch It bleed

How could you have looked and seen anything but compassion
Left to watch alone, jealous of false attentions
You’d felt it in my touch, tasted it in my kiss
And still, darling, you screamed my affections were passionless
Despite every example of devotion, every memory made
You still succumbed to boredom, you let the pictures fade

And I wear my heart on my sleeve
So you can watch it bleed
Watch it bleed
Watch it bleed

About the band:

Being As An Ocean will kick off a North American tour tonight in Quebec, where they will serve as direct support to Silverstein. Immediately following the tour, they will head out on a full US headline run with support from ’68, Capsize, Listener and Movements. This Summer, Being As An Ocean will venture overseas to Germany, for another set of dates with Silverstein that will include multiple festival appearances. All upcoming tour dates that have been announced can be found below, with additional European performances – and an Australian headline tour – set to be announced in the coming weeks.

“We are ecstatic to finally get the opportunity to work with the family at Equal Vision Records. Our relationship has been a long time in the making, and it is like a dream come true to be able to call ourselves part of the team,” states vocalist Joel Quartuccio. “Ever since we met Dan Sandshaw, EVR’s president, we knew that the label’s ethos and passion for the music was akin to our own and that we didn’t want to settle for anything less. We are eternally grateful to EVR for sticking it out through the years with us to see this beautiful partnership to fruition.”

“Being As An Ocean is one of my favorite bands and I’m honored to have them join our family,” shares Sandshaw. “I look forward to working with them on inspiring new music filled with love, hope and compassion.”

The new single was recorded in Atlanta, GA at Glow In The Dark Studios with producer Matt McCllellan (Better Off, Capsize) and takes Being As An Ocean in a more hook-driven direction while still incorporating the band’s signature sound of sophisticated storytelling woven over lush, ambient soundscapes. The unique juxtaposition of Joel Quartuccio’s gritty, impassioned vocal work and Michael McGough’s gracefully soaring vocals creates a distinct blend that is both captivating and cathartic.

“‘Dissolve’ has been about 3-4 months in the making, being written over one of our longest timelines, and we think it is one of our best yet. We, simply, have never had the time to make something this special before, and I think it really shows,” reveals Quartuccio. “Working with Matt McClellan, now for the third time, was a breeze. We click so well with him on a personal and musical level, we consider him a brother/family. Recording with him is always such a smooth and enjoyable experience, and I think that shines through, as well. It really aides the whole process, and I know it just wouldn’t be the same going to anyone else.”

To date, Being As An Ocean has released three full-lengths, the latest of which – a self-titled album released last year – found impressive Billboard Chart placements including: No. 3 Vinyl Album, No. 7 Hard Rock Album, No. 11 Independent Album, No. 15 Internet Album, No. 17 Alternative Album, No. 25 Top Rock Album and No. 72 Top Current Album.

Since their inception in 2012, the band has built up up a massive and devoted following all around the world, through relentless touring and a powerful presence on social media. In 2014, the band was noted by Bandsintown as one of the top touring artists for having performed 187 shows throughout the year; And in 2015 they won the award for Best Underground Band at the Alternative Press Music Awards, beating out the massively impressive fellow nominees of State Champs, Knuckle Puck, Major League, Tigers Jaw and The Hotelier in the fan voted category. Being As An Ocean has toured and shared stages with the likes of August Burns Red, Amity Affliction, Defeater, Stick To Your Guns, Vans Warped Tour, Architects UK and more.

Being As An Ocean is comprised of vocalist Joel Quartuccio, vocalist/guitarist Michael McGough, guitarist Tyler Ross, and bassist Ralph Sica. The band will record their fourth full-length album later this year.

“In 2016, our listeners and fans should expect a lot of amazing tours, more and more singles, and a band, full of best friends, excited and ready to make this year one of the best that BAAO has ever had,” concludes Quartuccio.
