Post rock and post metal genres have vastly more impact in a live performance, but obviously there are dozens of great bands that manage to serve as an immersive studio delivery and an authentic study of human emotion. “Clôture”, the newest record from Swiss instrumental band DARIUS is full of orchestral drama, undercut by an edgy riffage, and harnesses a raw, yet powerful energy that takes the listener straight to the live performance. Today, we’re giving you the first listen to the album in its entirety.
“Clôture” by DARIUS comes out March 2nd via Czar Of Revelations and Cold Smoke Records. The EP was recorded and mixed by Louis Jucker (Coilguns/Autisti/Ex-The Ocean), and can be ordered at this location.
The band commented:
“Clôture has been done with two people we love. The music producer and crazy artist Louis Jucker, and the video producer and painter Thanassis Fouradoulas. We first approached Louis : « Would you like to record our EP ? ». As he liked our previous release (Grain – 2015), he said : « Yes ». We didn’t know what to expect, but frankly it was pretty awesome. We ended up in an old shooting range turned into a rehearsal room in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by cows, mountains and trees, recording live on an 8 tracks tape recorder. No cheating possible ! When the recording part was done, we gave it to Thanassis and asked him if he was inspired by it for the cover. Again, we were so surprised by the result : three amazing paintings that we used as they are for the front/back cover and the inside.”
Orchestral songs without pompousness. Raw riffs. Simple and repetitive chords you wanna play with too much excitation. Riffs that hurt your wrist and cover your guitar with blood. Riffs that once layered form an atypical, choral and fairly violent post-rock. Like a big cake, made of real and healthy ingredients, nutritive, fat as fuck and surprisingly digest.
