French melodic hardcore punks RAINCHECK teasing new EP, explosive new track streaming!

2 mins read

Three years after their latest EP “True Love”, French power hardcore punks RAINCHECK are back with new EP “Last Call”! The melodious and high-spirited offering is promoted by the first single “Cleaned Out”, promising another kick ass release, once again on a number of great DIY labels: Bad Wolf Records (Dijon, FR), K-Nardage Asso (Nevers, FR), KROD Records (Berlin, GER), Histrion Records (Clermont-Ferrand, FR), Joe Cool Records (Lyon, FR), Inhumano (Lausanne, SW), and Out Of Thunes (Paris, FR)!

We took the chance to sit down with the band, recall their history and give you some more insights about their new work, as well as their local scene. Read below.

So we are Raincheck from Lyon France, we started this band six years ago and put out our first EP “true love” in 2016.

Since there we mostly played shows, all over France, Belgium and Switzerland, sometimes as support for big bands like Good riddance Death by stereo Frenzal Rhomb or Lagwagon.

Like every “young bands” (we’re around 35 years old but we still consider our band as “young”) we had some line up changes, and we’re now a 4 piece combo. I think the sound is tighter / more in your face, there are still melodies but it’s more sneaky I think.

Cleaned Out is a song about Being broke, and how you feel trapped when it happens

This short song is extract from our new EP Last call that we’re gonna put out soon… after the pandemic!

We recorded this ep in December 2019 at Warmaudio Studio in Decines (FR) by ourselves, with our drummer Alex “2 doigts dans la prise”. The artwork will be made by Freak City, who also made the cover of true love, our first ep. This new ep is gonna be released with a bunch of cool DIY labels from France Switzerland and Germany, listed above.

We were supposed to make the release party on Aprit the 10th in Lyon with a bunch of cool bands that we have meet during the past few years (Young Harts and Foolish from Clermont Ferrant, and Pattaya girls from Lyon) and a tour with Shitstorm, (an oldschool punk hardcore band from Lyon too) at the end of April, but with the Covid crisis, everything is postponed until better day… I guess we find the right name with this band, right?

Here in Lyon and around, the punk rock scene is still active

We usually see new bands coming like Tropical Daddy or Much Marcle for the most recent ones, and we’re glad to see that we have a lot of new people that refresh the scene, promoting shows (Chaos Project or Dirty shirt to name a few) or making radio podcasts (Broke the Kasbah) to keep the scene alive.

We’re all surprised by the incredible impact that the COVID-19 virus has on our lives and the music scene is not an exception.

But it’s not the most important, as in times like these we ‘re all thinking about the victims and the healthcare staff that are struggling hard with this shit.

Other bands worth a check to help you go through these harsh times

Please follow Joe cool records, the label that we made with Julien (Raincheck’s guitarist). We have a bunch of new releases coming out such as the new record of Makeshift Promise, a Hungarian punk rock band that returns with a cool PMA (not so easy in Hungary right now) after 6 years on hold!
