Hardcore band SHUTDOWN returns with By Your Side, their first new release in 25 years, and announces summer U.S. and European shows

1 min read

Shutdown is back after a quarter-century with By Your Side, a six-song EP released via Equal Vision Records, and a full slate of summer shows across the U.S. midwest and Europe.

It’s the New York hardcore band’s first new material since 2000’s Few And Far Between, and while the lineup hasn’t changed, the urgency feels sharpened by time, not dulled.

SHUTDOWN

Formed in Brooklyn in 1994, Shutdown made a name for themselves early with raw, positive hardcore grounded in a straight edge ethos. Their classic lineup—Mark Scondotto (vocals), Steve DellaCroce (guitar), Dion DeNardo (bass), and Jimmy McCormack (drums)—returns intact. Now older, but still in sync, they wrote By Your Side as if no years had passed. “That positivity is just how we roll,” DellaCroce says. “It helped us when we were angry teenagers… it was essential to keep that message going with this EP.”

The songs are short and direct. Lyrically, they move toward something broader and more reflective without sacrificing the grit. “There’s a lot of hope on this release,” says Scondotto. “I really think that’s what the world needs right now.”

The band will tour in support of the record this summer, starting in Columbus, OH on July 2. They’ll hit midwest cities through July 6, joined by PowerPlay on select dates. In August, Shutdown will head to Europe and the UK for headline and festival slots, including Brakrock in Belgium and Punk Rock Rebellion in Blackpool, playing alongside Circle Jerks, Agnostic Front, Madball, Bane, and UK Subs.
