Since launching their Gang Called Speed EP via Flatspot Records in June of last year, the Australian hardcore group Speed has been generating global excitement. Every concert they’ve performed has been fully booked, including shows in Australia, their initial North American tour, and their recent journey to Southeast Asia in March.
The band has now released a documentary that chronicles their Southeast Asian adventure, featuring the four electrifying concerts, newly forged friendships, and remarkable bands they encountered.
The tour started with Whispers in Thailand, followed by an introduction to the history of hardcore in Singapore. Brothers and bandmates Jem and Aaron explored their heritage in Malaysia before finishing the tour with a wild carpark gig in Indonesia. Despite language and cultural challenges, the hardcore scene is thriving and full of energy in this region, and Speed demonstrates its global interconnectedness. Darryl Carulli of 510haven produced the documentary, with Carulli and Speed co-directing it.
Speed plans to maintain their forward momentum by teaming up with Scowl and Sunami for a late May Australian tour that concludes at the Back On The Map festival. They’ll then venture to Europe for the first time, headlining shows and being joined by Zulu for select performances, as well as appearing at Outbreak Festival with Denzel Curry, Trapped Under Ice, and others. The band will conclude their tour with a third visit to the United States, performing at Sound and Fury in Los Angeles and This Is Hardcore in Philadelphia.
