Harsh hardcore punks SPINE streaming new LP “Raíces” on Convulse Records

1 min read

Hardcore/powerviolence band SPINE are celebrating the release of their explosive new album, “Raíces,” today on Convulse Records. With twelve blistering tracks, SPINE dives deep into the concept of “roots,” exploring the interplay between heritage, identity, and oppressive governments.

Clocking in at under one minute for most songs, the album delivers a relentless onslaught of biting guitars, frenzied drums, and powerful vocals from frontman Antonio Marquez, alternating between Spanish and English. Recorded in a converted steel storage unit, the record showcases SPINE’s longevity and was mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios.

Marquez elaborates on the album’s themes, stating, “The lyrical content teeters on more poetic takes on how I see the world and myself with more poignant and direct takes on those very subjects… I wanted to really stress those themes of identity in how I’m seen and how I see myself. There are different samples and clips on the record to emphasize some of those feelings that I think help bind the songs sonically.”
