Convulse Records is a DIY hardcore label in Denver, Colorado, and several bands have made their first albums for it. New Jersey’s Gel put sixteen minutes of hardcore on “Only Constant” in March 2023, the same month Hattiesburg’s MSPAINT released their debut, “Post-American”. MSPAINT play without a guitar, with distorted bass, synths and drums under the vocals.
Kansas City’s Spine have mixed hardcore and powerviolence since 2011, and their third album, “Raíces”, came out on Convulse in June 2023: twelve songs, most of them under a minute, sung in Spanish and English. San Francisco’s Fentanyl followed in 2024 with a self-titled album of fourteen songs in fifteen minutes, played through loud amps with no distortion pedals.
