HOWLS balance melody, atmosphere and grit on their new double single

1 min read

1,5 years since the release of their last LP on TruthseekerMusic and Smithsfoodgroup DIY, Brighton’s feverish, rock’n’roll infused post hardcore act HOWLS are back with a new 2-track single “Eye To Eye / Brick By Brick”, and we’re thrilled to give you the first listen below!

This inconspicuous 2-tracker goes back and forth between intensity and well crafter, atmopsheric moments and marks a great display of HOWLS‘ energy and range that obviously suggests multi-layered, melodious post hardcore has a long and interesting future ahead of it. Listen to both tracks right here and scroll down to see the band’s official commentary.

Pre-orders are available via Truthseeker Music HERE. Recorded mixed & mastered by Tom Hill ,’Eye To Eye / Brick By Brick’ will be released on November 16th 2018 available digitally and on limited edition cassette.

We’ve been sitting on these songs for a long time now! ‘Eye To Eye’ and ‘Brick By Brick’ were actually recorded way back in February 2017, before our album ‘The Headache’ was released. They were originally intended to be part of an EP that would follow soon after our full-length, but sadly we never found the inspiration to finish it.

Howls has been mostly inactive for the past year, largely due to Ollie (bass) moving away from Brighton, Will (guitar) and myself (Sam, drums) shifting our focus to other projects / interests, and a shared desire to take a break from the band until we find the spark that motivates us enough to give it the time it deserves.

On reflection, I think these are two of the best songs that Howls recorded, hopefully they will give people a good idea of the direction we were heading in at that time. Nearly a year to the day since the last time we played a show, we thought this would be as good a time as ever to get these songs out there for people to hear. We might be quiet, but we’re not dead yet.
