Formed in 2016, the Southern California-based SeeYouSpaceCowboy is a metalcore band that wears its influences on its sleeves while simultaneously challenging the grain of current hardcore.
In implementing things such as sass vocals, dissonant dance melodies, and visceral breakdowns, SeeYouSpaceCowboy is able to pay homage to the greater era of MySpace and scene music while also being able to bring something new to the table at the same time.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy is Jesse Price (guitar), Timmy Moreno (bass), Connie Sgarbossa (vocals), and Ethan Sgarbossa (drums).

Mark My Words Records has released a new LP from EARLY BLACK, an erringly dark, abrasive and sinister metallized hardcore act from Morden, UK.
Early Black`s (London, UK) sound shuffles restlessly and mercilessly on the precipice of 90’s and turn of the century seminal extreme music acts such as Converge, Cursed and Integrity. Buzzsaw guitar tones and artillery fire style drumming merge with introspective passages of calm, creating an intense atmosphere of unease within the four-piece’s artistic output. Coupling the vicious instrumentation with lyrics that resonate more with confessional poetry than genre tropes, Early Black are at once a familiar sound as well as an intriguing one.
Atmopsheric indie rockers MONPLAISIR (members of the almighty SPORT!) have released their debut LP called “The Agreement”, available now on the amazing Echo Canyon & Adagio830 labels. Be sure to give it a listen below.
Recorded in february 2018 at Mikrokosm (Baton Rouge, Thurston Moore Group), with Benoit Bel, then mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago, this first LP is the result of months of hard work in their practice space.
Expect grace, beauty with brillant guitar licks, driving bass lines and inventive drum patterns, as they did on their first effort, but with some magic added. Last but not least, beautiful vocals mostly recorded in one take. The sound of the LP is full of dynamics, space and sound. Something really happens on that record.
Oi punk rockers THE OLD FIRM CASUALS will release their new album Holger Danske on March 15th via Demons Run Amok Entertainment. The band just dropped a new video for the song “Motherland”!
Since 2010, The Old Firm Casuals have staked their claim on the ever-growing street punk/Oi! scenes that they are a part of. As authentic as Rock N’ Roll gets, Lars Frederiksen and his band of crucaders have continually left their anthemic mark on the music world, and the swarms of diehards that turn up to support their explosive live performances across the world.
This newest LP contribution “Holger Danske” takes no prisoners. This album will turn heads and get hearts pumping. It’s tough as nails, and shows a band truly at their best; breaking barriers and stereotypes, and exemplifying the hooks and licks that cause so many people from so many different Rock ’N Roll spheres to love this band. The Old Firm Casuals’ sound, message, and passion will not be put into a box. They are a true force to be reckoned with.
Built from the ashes of a marriage gone sour, Philadelphia’s LOW DOSE formed as an exercise in catharsis. Featuring the final lineup of cult noise-rock workhorses Fight Amp with the addition of vocalist Itarya Rosenberg of the late Legendary Divorce, LOW DOSE play heavy, grunge-tinged punk that is as visceral as it is infectious. Across their 35 minute, self-titled debut LP, the quartet bleed out ten emotionally fierce tracks, which deliver a loud/quiet/loud canvas for Rosenberg’s lyrics to lay bare the heartbreak and raw nerves of a broken relationship amidst rumbling bass, screeching guitar tones and dynamic drums that together signal the end of the world. LOW DOSE will surely hit all the right notes for those who enjoy the more melodic side of noise rock —especially fans of Metz, Slint and early PJ Harvey.
The album is being co-released by Brutal Panda Records and the Fight Amp / Low Dose homegrown label Knife Hits.
You can stream the first two singles and purchase on all formats below.

Yesterday post rock giants MONO have released their 10th album ’Nowhere Now Here’ though Pelagic Records.
2019 sees MONO head into their 20th anniversary – and they show no signs of stopping. 2018 saw the band personally invited by Robert Smith to perform at his Meltdown Festival curation in London, where they sold out Queen Elizabeth Hall almost as fast as the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Deftones sold out their intimate shows at Royal Festival Hall. It was recognition of an artist revered amongst their peers, and MONO duly created one of the stand-out performances of the festival.
Following on from their successful pre-release tour around Europe in late 2018, the band will present new album Nowhere Now Here in January 2019 and embark on their 20th anniversary year by performing their classic Hymn to the Immortal Wind album in full on the main stage at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg this April, accompanied by the Jo Quail Quartet.
This show will be one of the highlights of this special year for MONO – yet in many ways it is a precursor to so much more to come. April and May 2019 will see the band take a new set around Europe as Nowhere Now Here becomes the focus.
Joining them on the road are artists who complement the heights and depths that their music reaches to. Arabrot create True Norwegian Art Rock and deliver a musical expression quite like no one else. Jo Quail is a one-woman cello ensemble, whose looped compositions redefine what classical instrumentation can mean within a heavy context.

Venezuela’s hardcore band THE ZETA have been traveling the US for the last 2 years and now their work could be jeopardized as the United States government did not approve the visa of their member Daniel Saud.
Immigration is a mess in the United States, but the truth of it is that this is self-inflicted by the government itself. Our government stifles and denies those looking for an honest opportunity, who go through the “system,” and worse happens to those seeking asylum. The government is sending a message by denying applicants that even by going through the proper channels and filling out the right paper work, it doesn’t matter – you’ll still get denied, because one person does not see the value in another human’s life. It’s an opinion of a person that determines who gets citizenship, and subjectivity should have no place becoming a citizen. In punk, that’s not only unacceptable, but it’s what we claim to push back against. So it’s time to step up and speak out. / Get Alternative

LA based mathy indie emo rockers THE LITTLEST VIKING have released an amazing new record called “Feelings & Stuff”. These guys are a two piece math/emo/punk band from Whittier, CA who sound like the bastard musical lovechild of American Football, Don Caballero, Piglet, Toe and Hot Snakes. Tambourines, ridiculous drum fills, wicked tapping, hoarse shouting, noise freakouts, salsa beats and the occasional Prince sample are a staple of any TLV live show. They’ve developed a style that’s as intense as it is fresh and extremely fun to listen.

This year THE BOUNCING SOULS are celebrating their 30th year as a band, a tremendous milestone by any measure, and one that’s even more impressive for a band as consistently active and crowd pleasing as the New Jersey punk legends. In honor of the anniversary, the band has announced the release of “Crucial Moments”, a brand new six-song EP and accompanying book, due out March 15th from Rise Records. Today The Bouncing Souls are sharing the title track and its music video, an anthemic ode to three decades of great music and great friendships – proof that the band shows no signs of slowing down. Watch the “Crucial Moments” music video below.
Recorded by Will Yip, “Crucial Moments” captures the sound of a band who is still completely in love with what they do after all these years. The four-piece – vocalist Greg Attonito, guitarist Pete Steinkopf and bassist Bryan Kienlen, who started the band in 1989, and were joined by drummer George Rebelo in 2013 – aren’t ones to rest on their laurels, as “Crucial Moments” is a wholehearted, fully-realized addition to The Bouncing Souls canon. The EP offers the winning familiarity of the band’s most defining traits bolstered by a long career’s worth of songwriting expertise.
If the “Crucial Moments” EP shows where The Bouncing Souls are now, the book is a look back at where they’ve been. The collection contains photos, memorabilia, and stories from friends and fans to trace the band’s incredible career and its impact on the people around them. As Attonito puts it: “We’ve made bonds with people around the world that you’d never imagine or dream of when you’re a 17-year-old kid from New Jersey in the ’80s. I’m so grateful that I’ve been through that journey and for what I’ve learned, and what I’ve been able to get for my heart and to give, too. I don’t know how I can imagine my life being more gratifying than that”.
The Bouncing Souls will be spending their 30th anniversary with fans all around the world, having also just announced a massive run of US, UK, and EU tour dates throughout 2019, including a stop in Eindhoven, NL on November 2nd at The South of Revolution Festival.

The lyrical content of the e.p range from anxieties about the role technology is playing in the rise of the far right, Australia’s monstrous and ongoing policy of offshore detention of asylum seekers, daily struggles with anxiety and the weaponising of toxic masculinity.
Zegema Beach Records has launched the full stream of the newest issue of MODERN RIFLES‘ LP + B-sides collection! Originally released on cd in 2008 minus three key tracks, MODERN RIFLES’ ‘I Was Young, It Was Dark’ LP. Beautifully melodic, frustratingly catchy with enough technical chops to fix your ailing computer woes. They really do their own thing but it’s a mish-mash of mathy emo, pop-punk and indie rock with a splash of post-hardcore. A faster, darker, more complex version of Jimmy Eat World is probably a good comparison. For fans of ffo: Waxwing, Jimmy Eat World, Riddle Of Steel and Blue Youth.

RITES OF HADDA, a London based anarcho-pagan-gothic-stoner-punk band that formed as the result of a weekly jam night at a squat in North London, just released “Witchpunk”, their first proper EP, on 21st December 2018 (Winter Solstice). The EP was recorded at DSI studios in Tottenham by Tom Shot! and can be found most places you’d expect (Spotify, Bandcamp, Youtube) and in physical format from our Bandcamp (and some record shops in the UK). Chec it out below.
Drawing inspiration from the band’s diverse tastes (including Black Sabbath, Poison Girls, Zero Boys, Motorhead and Hawkwind, Howlin Wolf, Fairport Convention, Riddles, Saxon, Cosmic Psychos, Acid Mothers Temple > stoner, garage, psychedelic rock, punk, anarcho- punk, hardcore punk, NWOBHM and musical genres far beyond that…) the band plays a blend of heads-down occult-tinged punk rock with a melodic, pop edge. Lyrically, the band takes in everything from social commentary about capitalism and the forces of government, to more personal and visceral subject matter.
Witchpunk is Rites of Hadda’s first proper EP release, recorded at DSI Studios in Tottenham, produced by Tom from Shot! and released on 21st December 2018 – Winter Solstice. A 7-track journey from heavy-hitting punk via psychedelic to melodic rock; from light to shade; from anger to elation through to melancholy and despair.
Tiny Engines is coming off a such great year that punk, emo, and post-hardcore fans would be smart to follow everything in the pipeline for the Carolina-based indie label. That means venturing into the desert for Phoenix’s NANAI OZONE, a dual-vocalist-wielding rock band whose sophomore album is due in early 2019. They’ve teased it would a two-song taste of both: “Alone Too” (sung by guitarist Sophie Opich) is equal parts nimble and punchy while “3 Mile Drive” (sung by Opich and guitarist Colson Miller) is 100 percent designed for the open road.
This one’s another great big pile of noise, with layered guitars and soft melodies from co-vocalists Colson Miller and Sophie Opich that blend together to create something that sounds like that liminal space in the morning when you’re half-asleep and barely alive. / Stereogum
YOUTH OF TODAY have announced more Brooklyn shows with We’re Not In This Alone lineup of Ray Cappo, Porcell, Walter Schreifels, and Sammy Siegler. GO HERE to see the details.
Glasgow thrashy hardcore punks KINGPIN have released a new EP “Prayers Won’t Save You”. These guys blast away with their harsh sonic attack and it’s great to hear some new track after almost 2 years break.
Rémy Venant (LA JUNGLE) and Pierre Toussaint (MONT-DORE) have announced their new project ALL CAPS!
A bass drowned with effects, a drum kit (or rather what’s left of it), a small keyboard reminiscent of an 8-bit synthesiser and a few wacky samples, that’s what these two overexcited guys have in store for you!
Initially, hip-hop is what they had in mind. Driving around town in customized SUVs and guest-starring rappers from Charleroi, Pennsylvania is what they aspired to do. But one is a fan of smoothies whilst the other spends his days playing BroForce on Playstation 4: the chemistry just wasn’t right for gangster hip-hop. So, naturally, weird geeky noise-rock is what these sweaty two lads started to spontaneously play. It was natural, it was always meant to be.
Today, Pietou and Roxie are getting their propeller beanies ready to play their first gigs. They’ll be proudly introducing their first 6 title EP, All’s Well That Ends Well, which can be described as urgent, childish and doomesque at the same time. Good luck guys!
French pop punk rockers BIKINIS & ICECREAM have released a new EP called “There’s No Finish Line”, available for streaming or free download. Largely influenced by bands like Blink182, New Found Glory, Angels & Airwaves, Simple Plan, Nofx and more, their musical style has slowly mooved from a classic pop-punk music on their first 2 albums, to a kind of atmospheric / pop rock, but paying attention not to loose their pop-punk roots.
We used to record or previous EPs by our own (2 members) but for this one, we worked with a third friend which brought his musical ideas and mixing technic. We tried more new things and made our best to produce a better sound.
Alt rock giants THE PIXIES have announced a brand New Album due this September. The as yet untitled album was written over the course of 2018 and recorded in December at Dreamland Recordings near Woodstock, NY. Produced by Tom Dalgety.

Imagine you’re a member of a rock band. A band so influential, that your work created an entirely new genre. A genre which defined contemporary music for a whole generation of listeners. Then, imagine that despite extraordinary critical and popular acclaim, your band broke up. Imagine that your band’s disappearance actually increased its legend and influence to the point that popular demand forced you to reunite. And after a 13 year hiatus, your band became more popular than ever before. Now imagine, 14 years after returning to the scene, you’re back in the studio recording a new album, to build on your legacy and take your place at the forefront of the genre you created. Imagine – you are a member – of the Pixies.
Signal Co. No1 presents Past Is Prologue, Pixies, a 12 part documentary podcast series scrutinizing, in intimate detail, the creative process of alternative / indie rock pioneers, and one of the most influential bands in contemporary music, the Pixies. Tony Fletcher, acclaimed music journalist and author of the definitive books on The Who, The Smiths and R.E.M., is our guide, as he settles into 3 enlightening weeks at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY to witness the Pixies create their forthcoming album.
Through his intimate daily conversations with individual band members and their co-conspirator, Producer Tom Dalgety, Tony uncovers the fascinating details of their song-writing process. When combined with his forensic examination of the band’s past, Tony discovers the Pixies’ creative ambition and drive remain as relevant, fierce – and weird – as ever.
In other news, THE PIXIES are on tour across North America in March & April, playing shows with Weezer plus our own headline shows:

CODE ORANGE have premiered a new documentary entitled ‘My World‘. The 20-minute effort goes behind the scenes and was captured and edited by the group themselves.
Vocalist/drummer Jami Morgan commented:
“We just wanted to make something that kind of showed a little bit of a different side to us, but in our mind still rolled with the vision that we’re trying to create through our records. There’s a lot of loose band documentaries with a lot of footage that we all really liked watching, like Type O‘s After Dark or I have Nine Inch Nails‘ Closure, there’s a Pantera one, a great Manson one, a great KMFDM one … there’s just been a lot of cool ones over the years.
So we thought, actually about two years ago at this point, “Let’s just start shooting and see what we can do.” Shade is the one who kind of put the whole thing together and added all the visual elements to it, which I think make it really interesting.
So we just wanted to do something to shine light on a different side of what we do, because we haven’t really done anything that was, quote-unquote, “behind the scenes” with recording or us talking — we’re never done anything like that. It’s a little taste of what we thought would be cool for people who like us, or people who don’t!”
SPLIT/CROSS from South Central PA is less than a week away from the release of the debut EP, Rise of Discontent, to be out on Jan 31st digitally on Bandcamp. Hard copy versions will be available when they manage to get funds by selling digital copies or get support from their fans. “Rat Cult”, a different new song from the record was released earlier this year via IDIOTEQ! GO HERE to check it out.
The band informs. The third track Dis-seption off of the EP is streaming via Indy Metal Vault. GO HERE to check it out.
““Dis-seption” is a song about growing up being put down or set aside due to mental illness, and others’ lack of understanding of mental illness”,
Hailing from South Central PA (Harrisburg & York PA), Split/Cross can possibly be described by the sound where hardcore meets pulverizing grindcore and crust punk with the razor-sharp d-beat touch and some dabs of heavy doom/sludge. Upon further inspection, an educated pair of ears will even discover the death and black metal influences in the music as well. The music delivers a torrent of aggressive moments, soaked in sardonic and depressive interludes.
The Debut recording of Split/Cross is a short album, entitled “Rise of Discontent”, and is being released digitally through Bandcamp only (for now) on Jan 31, 2019. Hard copy versions to be available when they get the funds or some support from some outsiders.
Upstate Records has released a new EP from heavy hardcore act PAID IN FULL! On “A Pound of Flesh”, the North Carolina quintet comes heavy as a mountain and drives through the eardrums with sheer power.
Emo pop punk rockers SOUTH BERKELEY have dropped a new single called ‘Glass N Sparks’, to be featured on the band’s upcoming debut LP “Too Slow’”, to be released soon via KROD Records.
Blackhouse Records has signed the legendary crossover thrash band THE ACCUSED, now dubbed THE ACCUSED AD! Check out the band’s new song and video “Juego Terminado”, coming from their new LP “The Ghoul In The Mirror”, to be released on Vinyl, CD, CS, and Digital!
With the knife-wielding, toothy-grinned Martha Splatterhead at their side, Seattle’s own THE ACCUSED carved their way into the underground music scene by becoming one of the cornerstones of crossover music that melted faces in the 80s across the globe––A punk/metal fusion that planted its ever-growing seed in modern heavyweights such as MUNICIPAL WASTE, LAMB OF GOD, CANNIBAL CORPSE, the Patton/Lombardo project DEAD CROSS, and many more.
After its demise in the early 2000s, the band was reborn in 2004 as TOE TAG–a grittier, back-to-roots incarnation of the Splatterrock sound comprised of three-fourths THE ACCUSED, featuring Blaine “The Wizard” Cook, Alex “Maggotbrain” Sibbald, and Steve “O’ring Nelson with good friend and musical comrade Steve “The Beast” McVay taking Alex’s 4-string job while the Maggotbrain took over 6-string duties, complete with Wah-Wah shreddage.
Following in the footsteps of bands like VENOM INC. KNOW, FLAG, and ENTOMBED AD––and after recruitment of POISON IDEA’s drummer, Mickey Widmere––the blender baby known as MARTHA’S REVENGE now proudly sports the moniker THE ACCUSED AD.
The cult of Splatter is alive, and the Kool-Aid is being consumed insatiably so, and we here at Blackhouse are honored to have them aboard for their brand new full length album coming this year. Produced and engineered by iconic Seattle producer Jack Endino (Mudhoney, Nirvana, U-Men, Tad, the list goes on…), and mastered by Pig Destroyer’s Scott Hull at Visceral Sound, this album is sure to deliver the Splatterrock without skipping a beat from where they left off.
Tune in pre-order details, show dates and other news coming VERY soon.
Austin, TX pop rockers FOREVER STARTS TODAY have posted their version of SENSES FAIL’s “Family Traditon”.
Iron Lung Records has released a new 7” from raw hardcore punk act HOMELESS CADAVER.
I once heard a story about seeing a guy in pretty rough shape digging through the trash for something, anything. It was outside of a shitty fast-food joint like Naugles or Jimboy’s or something. Anyway, his face lit up when he gripped a prize and whipped a slimy bag of past date steak chunks outta the can. He proceeded to squeeze the contents into his mouth, chewing and gagging the whole time, like a snake trying to choke down a severed leg from a car accident or something. That’s what the music sounds like too. Get gross with it, like Bobby Soxx at a high school dance.

Perth Pop-Punk band NAUTICAL MILE are showing us the meaning of betrayal and how it feels to be let down with their brand new video for their single ‘Regicide’.
The pop-punk banger was engineered and produced by Tristan Sturmer of Sumo Sound Studios in Perth, with mastering by George Georgiadis of Little Wing Production, and is some of the bands most mature songwriting to date.
‘Regicide’ has gained a lot of momentum and support from both media and fans. The band not only saw a 302% increase in Spotify streams, in the first month of release, but also saw a 13% rise in daily listeners too! With the upcoming Regicide tour it is no doubt the single will continue to grow both regionally and internationally.
Nautical Mile started in 2015 with the bands first self-titled EP being released in 2016. In early January 2017 they released their second EP ‘Playing For Keeps’, with two tracks being spun a bunch on Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud. Their energetic live show has led to Nautical Mile sharing the stage with the likes of Hawthorne Heights, The Decline and more.

+44‘s ‘When You Heart Stops Beating’ To Be Re-issued on Limited Audiophile Vinyl
via srcvinyl / Blue and Pink Variants Now Available For Pr-Order (Ships April 12) Green Available In November!
srcvinyl will be expanding their Mark, Tom and Travis (Blink-182) catalog with the reissue of +44’s ‘When Your Heart Stops Beating’ on limited, audiophile vinyl. The album is mastered for vinyl and lacquers created by Kevin Gray, Cohearent Audio. It has been plated and pressed at RTI. The album will be pressed on three variants – Blue, Pink & Green with cover art matching the color pressing.
Originally released on November 13, 2006, by Interscope Records, ‘When Your Heart Stops Beating’ is the sole studio album by American rock band +44, founded by Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker of blink-182.
The band was formed as an experimental electronic outfit following the breakup of Blink-182. The project started in early 2005 and was later joined by lead guitarist Shane Gallagher (The Nervous Return) and rhythm guitarist Craig Fairbaugh (Transplants, The Forgotten, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards) .
Its dark lyrical content primarily reflected the demise at that time of Blink-182, although it is stylistically upbeat and inspired by bands such as the Postal Service and the Cure.
The album was produced by Hoppus and Barker and executive produced by long-time blink-182 producer Jerry Finn.
The LP’s title track was released as its lead single and peaked at number 14 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.
Nashville, Tennessee hardcore/powerviolence duo THETAN delivers a new single from their impending second full-length, Abysmal, nearing release via Anti-Corporate Music next week. The brutalizing new single, “Put Out To Pasture,” has been premiered through an exclusive at prime hardcore/punk blog No Echo alongside an interview with the band. GO HERE to check it out.
THETAN offers of the
“Put Out To Pasture” track, “This was actually one of the last songs written for the album, lyrically. I struggled with content over this one for a few months before sitting down and putting pen to paper. The lyrics came all at once after a phone conversation with a close friend that perfectly encapsulated how two people who had once been so close could grow so far apart in such a short time. We live in very polarizing times, and nobody is safe from the fallout of drifting ideals.”
No Echo declares of the Abysmal LP,
“THETAN’s choice of a moniker representing a human soul is distorted through their belligerence and repugnance. The grueling animus captured on tape here is confrontational and malicious. The songs here are brilliant in their brevity. Devastating riffs played with speed on low-tuned bass over spastic drums truly delivers eighteen blazing gems in seventeen minutes.”
With more widespread touring to be posted shortly, THETAN has booked a hometown release show for Abysmal, the gig secured at DRKMTTR in Nashville for February 15th. Watch for additional dates to be announced.
Toronto punk band PKEW PKEW PKEW are pleased to announce they will release their new album, Optimal Lifestyles, on 1st March 2019 via Big Scary Monsters (UK) and Dine Alone Records (US).
Pkew Pkew Pkew also recently revealed a run of UK tour dates for May 2019 supporting hotly-tipped LA punks du jour Spanish Love Songs, and as a taster of the new album the band are streaming lead single ‘I Don’t Matter At All’ in full, breaking straight into the Spotify New Punk Tracks playlist today.
While Pkew Pkew Pkew’s 2016 self-titled debut angled more towards the minutiae of the late-20s punk life, Optimal Lifestyles catalogues and reflects on the root causes of the band’s previous fun-loving, hard-partying behaviour with unflinching clarity and precision. Front man Mike Warne writes songs in the same tongue as plot-driven realists like The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn, who actually went to Toronto to workshop songs with the band for the record.
A standout moment from those sessions is lead single, ‘I Don’t Matter At All’. Much like the album itself, the song is a giant leap forward for Warne’s songwriting, pulling inspiration from The Hold Steady, of course, but leaning deeper into the retro-rock feel of bands like The Strokes and Japandroids, too.
“Is this good or is this bad?” ponders Warne of the lifestyle Pkew sings about. “It’s fun to live like an idiot, but it’s probably bad, also. We’re all constantly wondering if we’ve ruined our lives forever or not, being in a band.”
Song-by-song, Optimal Lifestyles lays out a journal of the sort of living Warne speaks of, but this isn’t a jokey, bro-ish shrug-off of his circumstances, and neither is Pkew’s a purely self-indulgent self-destruction. It’s an acceptance of the circular futility of life in Toronto, increasingly marked by hellishly-accelerated rent increases and unfeeling gentrification.
More than anything, this record is about trying to cope with a city, an industry, and a world that increasingly doesn’t seem to give a shit about people—only money. So Pkew Pkew Pkew cope by calling out the bullshit.
Pkew Pkew Pkew’s central thesis is that things might get fucked up from time to time, but there’s still value in trying. Warne testifies that though it’s a Sisyphean, almost masochistic, struggle to be in a band in 2018, it’s better than the alternative, like joining the vulgar charade that is the fraudulently-earnest, vapid hugging-crowd at beige adult parties, where no one is really happy, but everyone pretends to be.
Warne and the rest of Pkew are honest about where they’re at in life, and over time, one comes to realize that their sardonic wit cloaks a quiet optimism.
“There’s always something better, and it makes sense to try for it,” Warne says. “That’s the shitty and good part: you still do it, cause otherwise you’ve given up.”

New Orleans’ THE WORLD IS A VAMPIRE delivers a serving of unsettled noisy goth punk. Add doses of 90’s grunge and goth influence but create something truly nightmarish with it as they layer on bouts of vicious hardcore and moments of complete dementia. The sound is blown up as if played through mud, with huge distortion and the maniacal, shrieking, spectral howls of Bryan from Thou. This is a masterful melding of genres feat. KC from Thou/Treadles, Clayton of Heat Dust, Scott from Secret Passage, Michael from Silver Dodling, and Rachel of Bitchface. Absolutely fantastic ugly punk for these times. Their side closes with a cover of Gone Sugaring by Mirah.
Also from the swamps of New Orleans crawl TORTURE GARDEN Garden with 3 tracks of ripping thrashing crust. Straight up charging riffs pummel away as Emily’s vocals exude complete disgust, all with undercurrents of melody that keep it from sinking completely back into the ooze.
INCUBUS are readying a follow up to their 2017’s 8 album. The band posted the fllowing comment on their Instagram.
“Making music is like an old friend … Sometimes you pick up right where you left off, other times you have to get through some small talk to get things rolling. We have been building out this magical place for the last year and we are very close to creating the art we plan on making this year.”
From the wet gutters of Rouen (Normandy, France) comes SORDIDE, a raw black metal power trio which spits its scornful and desperate anger in Molière’s language under the motto “neither name, nor flag”. Since their inception in 2014, the band has released two well-received albums, “La France A Peur” and “Fuir La Lumière”, as well as a split EP with Satan.
“Hier Déjà Mort”, their third full length, brings their idiosyncratic take on black metal to another level; reinterpreting the heritage of second wave bands through their own disillusioned yet exultant lens. Captured live and mixed analogically, the record sounds crude and natural, allowing space for each instrument to breath. Undeniably rooted in punk in sound and spirit, the band shines at spreading its vehement urgency – furious or more lancinant, yet always hypnotic and vitriolic -,built for moisty basement shows.
The record will be out on February 15th via Throatruiner Records (LP / CD), WV Sorcerer Productions (LP / CD / CS) and La Harelle (CD)
Catch them on tour next month:

NJ metalcore act OLD WOUNDS have premiered a video for “Stripes,” a track from the band’s latest release, Glow.
Salt Lake City, UT punks PROBLEM DAUGHTER have released a brand new song and music video titled “Self Amusing Smile”, the first track is off their forthcoming album “Grow Up Trash” due out March 22nd on Wiretap Records (North America) and Bearded Punk Records (EU).
Check out the video and single, which is available today (Jan 25th) on all digital streaming sites. Problem Daughter last released their debut full length “Fits Of Disorganized Boredom” in 2016 via Dying Scene Records.
Started by high school friends in 2008, Problem Daughter plays some of the best blue collar, punk-rock grit and misery juxtaposed with catpop-punkpunk melodies you’ll ever hear.
Named as the state of Utah’s representative on Kerrang’s ‘United States of Punk’, the best punk bands from every US state. Not regulated to a mere two chords and screaming, the quartet take everything great about punk and pack it into songs varied in structure and melodies that never grow redundant. Their music smells like a sweaty basement show, tastes like cheap beer on a lamp-lit porch and feels like not wanting to go home at the end of the night.
Leeds, UK punk/folk rock band JAKE AND THE JELLYSFISH have released a music video for the track “Reading List”off their most recent album ‘Long In Winters.’
The band says,
“Reading List is about confidence and learning how to deal with change. Lyrically this one was really personal to me, but I tried to write it so that it could be as relatable to others as possible, we all deal with change in our lives, whether it’s things getting in the way of seeing the person you love, loosing somebody close or even not spending enough time reading as much as you’d like. I approached our friend Claudio to do the video and he did such a great job of portraying the exact vibe of the song to the video he produced, he’s such a genuine guy and I think his input and enthusiasm for the project really gave the video an extra dynamic.”
Armed with foot-stomping, beer-soaked folk tunes and ‘sing your heart out’ punk rock anthems, Jake and the Jellyfish write dance-able, sing-along songs about the frustrations of daily life, 9 to 5 jobs, environmental concerns and more. Who knew being grumpy could be so much fun?
Social commentary is a key part to J&TJ’s music, an overall sense of dissatisfaction resides underneath the surface of very relatable, catchy lyrics. Whether it’s a fuck you to lad culture “I won’t follow your lead, and I’m not one of the lads”, or being aware of your own flaws “We’re all hypocrites, just to greater or lesser extents” they wear their emotions on their sleeves and it’s evident in their live show.
5 years of touring in a beat up old postal van has added plenty of experiences to their sound. From breaking down in a small town in France with no breakdown cover and no money to get home to accidentally headlining the Woodlands stage in front of thousands of people at Kendal Calling; it all adds to the community spirit of the Jellyfish, they just want to have some beers and play some tunes at the top of their lungs.
Originally just Jake playing punk folk songs by himself, the band met at uni in Leeds, and quickly became a unit rather than a one man show. Deciding to play as many shows as possible, as quickly as possible, they met many friends along the way. And what’s more fun then travelling the world and hanging out with your friends? Over the years their sound has gained more and more energy and yet has still matured.
In addition to performing shows all over, the band has played festivals like Rebellion, Mighty Sounds, Boomtown, Bearded Theory, Kendal Calling, Beat-herder and The Fest, and has shared stages with bands such as Red City Radio, The Skints, H20, Random Hand and Beans on Toast, which has enabled them to carve their own foothold in the DIY music scene.
Swiss Ambient-Cinematographical-Post-Rock/Post-Hardcore Collective KILLBODY TUNING have unveiled a live video excerpt from Film-Concert ‘PI’, recorded in 2017 at 2300 Plan 9 in Switzerland and including the original versions of the songs “My Mother Told Me To Not Stare Into The Sun”, “When I Was 6 I Did” and “I Was Terrified” taken from their album.
Emotional, contemplative and epic, the music of Killbody Tuning is a world of instrumental soundscapes shaped by ambient, rock and post-rock.
Since taking off in 2005, the band has always tried to depart from the conventional forms of rock. After their warmly received debut EP, ‘The French Hunter’ (2008), Killbody Tuning have delved into different artistic projects.
In 2009, the band arranged several songs by for the play Clinique de la Raison Close, and one year after this first successful experience, KBT wrote the score for “Dernière Chasse”, a short film directed by the young Swiss filmmaker Julien Humbert-Droz. In order to develop this new project in an innovative way, the band composed new instrumental pieces out of the movie soundtrack. This creative process gave birth to Killbody Tuning’s new album, ’47°0’40.00″N/6°42’20.00″E’, which received positive and enthusiastic reviews throughout Europe.
After touring Switzerland and France in 2011 and 2012, Killbody Tuning spent a whole year writing and rearranging new pieces under the careful guidance of Julien Fehlmann (The Ocean, Coilguns, …). Recorded live and released on Hummus Records (Coilguns, The Fawn, Louis Jucker, Red Kunz, …) ‘Hello! Welcome, so far…’ (2014).
The, after almost two years touring in Switzerland and France, Killbody Tuning wrote a totally new score for Darren Aronofsky’s masterpiece π; played live at 2300 Plan 9 festival. An hour and a half of organic and instinctive music, which could not be abandoned in this mathematical maze. Killbody Tuning kept its essence and recorded ‘Pictorial’, a raw album made out of hypnotic riffs, dark chaos and bright melancholy.
New Jersey-based melodic punk rock trio CYCLONE STATIC presents “Company Man,” a track found on the band’s rapidly-impending debut LP, From Scratch, which sees release through Mint 400 Records on February 8th. The song is delivered through a psychedelic animated video which has been presented through a premiere hosted by No Echo.
From Scratch debut is a slick, dynamic release that delivers bold hooks infused into infectious melodies. Delivering thirty-eight minutes of high-quality melodious punk through ten original tracks, CYCLONE STATIC’s songs reel the listener in for the entire album. Fans of the Descendants, Nirvana, Jawbreaker, Agent Orange, The Queers, and statemates The Bouncing Souls, should unquestionably tune in.
The cleverly-executed animation video for “Company Man” brings to life the elements of the album’s artwork. The cover art, fueled by the band’s homage to Frank Kozik, was created by Orion Landau of Relapse Records, and the video created by Conrad Martyn.
CYCLONE STATIC’s drummer Jonathan Levineoffers of the song,
“‘Company Man’ was created early on in our process of James and I writing music together. It sort of developed out this driving rift and this thumping bass drum. There is a funny story about this song. James has a tendency to write lyrics as we develop the songs and I typically don’t know what they are until much later in the process. I kept thinking he was singing, ‘I’m a company man,’ but he was actually saying ‘I’m a confident man.’ I started calling the song ‘Company Man’ and he never corrected me so that is the title. I had this whole idea about what the narrative was based on the title, but I was totally wrong. I didn’t find this out to very recently.”
No Echo declares,
“CYCLONE STATIC is a power trio based out of New Jersey with a sound that is above all else, hooky… From Scratch is a catchy fucker…”
CYCLONE STATIC’s record release show takes place in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 7th. The band has sanctioned a CD pressing of the record – limited to 100 copies – half of which will be given to the first 50 folks through the door at the band’s upcoming Jersey City release show on February 7th. The band will also support the legendary Agent Orange in Philadelphia on February 22nd. Additional details on the record release shows and more supporting From Scratch will be announced in the weeks ahead.
Based out of Northern New Jersey in the New York City area, CYCLONE STATIC draws from and refines their best influences, merging elements of late-’70s-punk, mid-’80s hardcore, and early-’90s alternative rock into raw, uninhibited music that captures their independent spirit and DIY ethos. The album was recorded at Forest Of Chaos in Hawthorne, New Jersey by Neil Sabatino who also engineered and co-produced it and who also owns Mint 400 Records, the label releasing the record. From Scratch was mixed and mastered by Stuart Richardson (The Lost Prophets, No Devotion) at Rocky Water Studios.
Additionally, drummer Jonathan LeVine is a well-known curator, and art gallery owner in the NYC area with connections running deep into the regional punk, hardcore, and fanzine realms of the tri-state area. His gallery sells and has worked with many notable artists in the underground worlds of Pop Surrealism and Street Art including Shepard Fairey, Gary Baseman, Shag, and many others.

Southampton three-piece TOREADOR bring together a signature blend of fuzz-soaked guitars and harmonies that have evoked early comparisons to Queens of the Stone Age, The Raconteurs, Rage Against The Machine and Led Zeppelin.
Debut single ‘Ashes’ is released on 25th January 2019 and is a strong statement of intent from the band—a hip-shaking groove powered by a distorted bassline that rattles headlong into a meaty chorus, all riddled with an easy desert-rock cool and charisma that shows plenty of promise.
Commenting on the song, front man Jack Wilson said:
“Ashes originally came from an idea of wanting to write a heavier track that people could still dance to—we wanted to create a track that really bounces. Lyrically it’s about a relationship between two totally incompatible people, and how sometimes it’s better to just cut your losses and walk away.”
The track was recorded at The Ranch Production House, Southampton by Neil Kennedy (Creeper, Milk Teeth, Boston Manor, Departures, Muskets and Landscapes), and the video was filmed at Casemates Rehearsal Studios in Portsmouth and directed by Gingerdope Photography (Casey, Shit Present).
The band will be hitting the road this month on a short run of live dates including a London show on 23rd January at The Dublin Castle, and an appearance at Icebreaker Festival in Portsmouth.
Appearing on stage over the past year with the likes of Demob Happy, Tigercub, The Amazons and Yonaka, the band have created a cult following in their hometown of Southampton that has allowed them grow comfortably into their now thundering live show.
Pop punk rockers THE WONDER YEARS will be touring Europe for the first time since their release of their chart-hitting album “Sister Cities”, starting next week. The band will be supported by Free Throw & The Winter Passing. Check out the dates below, and stream “Sister Cities” here.
LOS HUAYCOS: Peruvian Hardcore Thrash Punks To Release Savage Monstrosities Via Tankcrimes Next Month; New Track Streaming + Preorders Available.
LOS HUAYCOS will release their Savage Monstrosities full-length via Tankcrimes February 8th. The band features ex-members of Asmereir, Metamorphosis, and Experimental Dental School playing a raucous brand of psychedelic hardcore thrash punk. The word “huayco” comes from the Quechua, which means “depth/valley” and refers to landslides caused by torrential rains in the Andes. You will occasionally find these guys skating a curb in Oakland.
Comments Tankcrimes Records chief Scotty Heath,
“LOS HUAYCOS are Peruvian transplants who moved into Tankcrimes’ headquarters and started making a racket! This album sounds like Y2K thrash (think 625 Records) meets skate rock/hardcore (think JFA, Gang Green) meets noise rock weirdo jams (think AmRep, Cows).”
Recorded by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Torso) and featuring artwork by Skinner (High On Fire, Mastodon), Savage Monstrosities will see release digitally and limited edition vinyl in two color variants: 250 x Splatter and 250 x Bluetooth Blue. For physical orders go to THIS LOCATION.
In conjunction with the release of Savage Monstrosities, LOS HUAYCOS will play a set at the Tankcrimes Takeover, an eight-band rager celebrating the label’s local roster of talent. Set to take place at The Oakland Metro February 2nd, the all-ages event will find the band playing alongside the likes of Ghoul, Necrot, Brainoil, Kicker, Mortuous, Connoisseur, and Deathgrave.
Although the friendship between Asmereir and Metamorphosis began in the rehearsal studio Chinchay Melchormalo in 1996, LOS HUAYCOS was forged in mid-2013 in Oakland, California. Following a three-song demo, the band played their first show — Tankcrimes’ Brainsqueeze II on April 20th, 2014. Since then, LOS HUAYCOS has performed in various places throughout the Bay Area, and with several of their favorite bands like Dag Nasty, Ghoul, The Shrine, Wolfeyes, and Midnight. Additional live highlights include opening for NOFX in Lima, Peru among other shows in their hometown, an East Coast tour, and performances at Skull Fest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania two years in a row.
THE GHOST INSIDE are working on their new record, their first release since their bus crash in 2015. GO HERE to see a teaser on Twitter.
SIGILS: Revolver premieres stunning “Faceless” video, off upcoming debut album “You Built the Altar, You Lit the Leaves” – soaring, heartbreaking, occult-heavy doom from a queer perspective
“For fans of Pallbearer, Yob… Long Island, New York, quartet Sigils make highly emotional doom full of soaring vocals, melancholy guitars, and lyrics about witchcraft and ghosts… ‘You Built the Altar, You Lit the Leaves’ draws on [vocalist Salvatore Rex’s] experiences as a queer person coming of age in the often hyper-masculine and actively unwelcoming world of metal and hardcore, and his efforts to come to terms with his feeling of otherness.” –Revolver
An extraordinary debut, You Built the Altar, You Lit the Leaves introduces this Long Island, New York band to the world via 36 minutes of doom that will chill spines and bring tears to eyes.
From opener “Samhain” to closer “The Wicked, The Cloaked,” You Built the Altar, You Lit the Leaves is a slow-motion storm of haunting melodies, creeping across lonesome landscapes, powered by metallic muscle – the spirit of Black Sabbath and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, by way of the hardcore scene from which guitarist Tom Colello comes as an ex-member of Shai Hulud and Hollow Earth.
Mournful and glistening, Sigils’ sound crushes as vocalist Salvatore Rex presides over the ceremonies with a voice that soars like the child of Ozzy and Michael Stipe. Rex makes this statement about his occult-heavy lyrics:
“A lot of these songs are about my process of discovering ritual as a part of my day to day experience. There’s a lot about the concept of witchcraft, the history of women who were persecuted and murdered for their nonconformity. And a little bit of awe in these old practices, rotes, rituals, and smells. It’s all oddly healing, in a way.”
Rex, who for years has made folk music under his own name, describes the path by which he arrived at Sigils:
“Writing about these historically persecuted people came out of me thinking critically about the feeling of otherness. Growing up as a queer kid and going to metal shows, it was not the most welcoming environment. It was a culture that praised masculinity above all else. The women who dared to go to metal shows were frequently harassed and belittled. I never met anyone who didn’t identify as straight who hung around very long. When I was 21 I went to some little local metal show; I can’t even remember who was playing. I remember watching one of the bands when some guy who was quite well known around these parts walked up to me, called me a faggot, punched me in the face and spit on me. No one did a thing. I swore off the whole thing for a long time. After I met Tom Colello and we became as close as we have, I decided to rethink my hiatus from a scene I felt thoroughly rejected by. We had lots of talks about my experiences with homophobia in that world. We started writing this music with the idea that it would be private, for us. Then, after getting to know more people involved in this scene I thought it was far more important for me to be here, to be a person that even one weird, scared kid can look at and say, ‘well, if there’s someone else like me here, maybe I deserve to be here too.’ I don’t think I’m going to change metal music. It was just important for me to reclaim something I love, on my terms.”
You Built the Altar, You Lit the Leaves was recorded and mixed by the band in Massapequa Park, New York, in a house that has been in the Colello family for four generations. The album was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Converge, Mastodon, Kurt Vile).
Sub Pop Records has released a new rich edition of “Dry As A Bone” by Seattle grunge pioneers GREEN RIVER!
The story of Seattle’s rise to global rock supremacy in the late ’80s and early ’90s begins with Green River. Made up of Jeff Ament (bass), Mark Arm (guitar/vocals), Bruce Fairweather (guitar), Stone Gossard (guitar), and Alex Shumway (drums), the quintet put out three 12”s and a 7” single during its brief existence. Green River’s influence on Seattle’s music scene spread far and wide thanks to the members’ dispersion into bands including Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, and Love Battery, as well as the punk-glam-sludge-rock songs they left behind.
“By ’83, ’84, there was definitely a movement that was happening within hardcore, like Black Flag slowing down for My War,” says Arm. “The Replacements and Butthole Surfers were rearing their heads, and they’re very different bands, but they’re not hardcore—the Replacements are pretty much straight-up rock, and Butthole Surfers were God knows what. Sonic Youth’s Bad Moon Rising was around, and a lot of really interesting post-hardcore things were happening.”
Green River, which formed in 1984, was part of that evolution, with a sound that straddled a lot of different genres—blues, punk, bloozy straight-ahead rock. The mini-LP Dry As A Bone, which came out in 1987, and the band’s lone full-length Rehab Doll, which came out in 1988, were released as a single CD with a few bonus cuts, including their sneering cover of David Bowie’s “Queen Bitch” and their marauding version of Dead Boys’ “Ain’t Nothin’ to Do,” in 1990—but they’ve been unavailable on vinyl for years. Now, these slices of Seattle music history are not only back in print, they’re accompanied by items from the vaults that had been forgotten about for decades.
Dry As A Bone was recorded at Jack Endino’s Reciprocal Recording in 1986, and it shows the band in furious form, with Arm’s yowl battling Fairweather and Gossard’s ferocious guitar playing on “This Town” and “Unwind” opening as a slow bluesy grind then jump-starting itself into a hyperactive chase. The deluxe edition includes Green River’s cuts from the crucial Seattle-scene compilation Deep Six, as well as long-lost songs that were recorded to the now-archaic format Betamax.
Rehab Doll, recorded largely at Seattle’s Steve Lawson Studios., bridges the gap between the taut, punky energy of Dry As a Bone and the bigger drums and thicker riffs that were coming to dominate rock in the late ’80s. This new edition of Rehab Doll includes a version of “Swallow My Pride” recorded to 8-track at Endino’s Reciprocal Recording, which features a more accurate depiction of how the band sounded when they played live. “When I listen to these mixes, I think, ‘This is how we actually sounded—this is the kind of energy we had,'” says Shumway.
Green River’s place in American music history is without question, but these recordings paint a more complete picture of the band—and of rock in the mid- to late-’80s, when punk’s faster-and-louder ideals had begun shape-shifting into other ideas.
BLCKWVS just released a New Single feat. SARAH from BLACK VULPINE. The band’s new album ‘0160’ will be out via This Charming Man Records on Feb 22. Listen to the new track ‘0165’ HERE via The Sludgelord. An ambitious project, (if you can say that about a record on TCM, then probably about 0160) has been in production for 4 years now – the new record from BLCKWVS.
Ambitious because it continues what was already hinted at on 0150, namely working with guest singers. This time EVERY song is recorded and released in their typical, monolithic, instrumental BLCKWVS “Wall of Sound” style, teaming with guest appearances. Those who know how musicians tick can already guess the mammoth task that lie ahead. At first, many singers are enthusiastic about the idea, but then often lack the necessary self drive to carry the project forward.
As fast as promises were made, it turned out that it would more difficult, and above all, even more tedious than originally thought. But the long work was well worth it – 0160 can boast an impressive guest list – , Toni (Union Of Sleep / (dolch) ), Ed Fraser from Heads. Marc Grewe (orig. Morgoth), Munde (inotdance), Sarah (Black Vulpine), Siggi (Space Chaser), Lupus (Kadavar) Chris Dettmer and Milo (Rhonda), known from the spherical vocal part of the 0150 record, have contributed their own interpretations.
The lyrics tell a closed story and therefore 0160 is not only the most comprehensive and varied album, but also a flawless concept album!
Musically BLCKWVS in the very best ISIS (the band); picture a bulldozer flattening everything that stands in the way. Their above mentioned monolith doom builds upon the real BLCKWVS trademark sound – no matter if you sing, scream or row – you immediately hear BLCKWVS.
LA based power rock trio TARAH, WHO? have released a new music video for the song ‘Numb Killer’? The energetic pack dives into the anger and pain caused by the recent terrorist attacks and the conditions that have given rise to those who are truly numb-killers. Numb killer’s hyper-drive guitar, hard-hitting drums and bass assault collide into a brutal, blunt and artistic narrative.
Tarah:
I wrote this song in the back seat of my friend’s car. We had just heard about the news about the terrorist attacks at Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester. While my friends kept on talking, I started wondering if the assailant had had any emotions or hesitations before going through with his actions.
‘Numb Killer’ is very blunt and intense: musically, in the band’s performance but also visually, through their music video.
Tarah Who? expresses their sentiment of anger, pain and desolation in front of such disturbing and atrocious crimes against humanity.

Detroit’s favorite noise rock eccentrics CHILD BITE are currently penning their as-yet-untitled fifth full-length, slated for release later this year via Housecore Records. Writing with the assistance of several previous CHILD BITE drummers as well as new collaborators, the band will utilize the percussive expertise of Shane Hochstetler (Call Me Lightning, Zebras), who performed with CHILD BITE on their last two tours with Unsane, for the final studio recording, set to take place at Electrical Audio in Chicago Illinois this April under the production prowess of Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Jesus Lizard, Neurosis).
CHILD BITE will be road testing some of the new tracks during a weekend of Midwest shows with Pittsburgh’s Microwaves and Baltimore’s Multicult. These will be the only CHILD BITE shows in North America for the first half of the year.
Comments CHILD BITE frontman Shawn Knight, “We’re furiously writing tons of song ideas, jamming with various drummer buds, trying to put our best foot forward on this Albini album. We’ve just been in tour mode for the past couple years, so we had to put the brakes on shows for the entire winter in order to focus on the task at hand. But, when we heard that our good friends Multicult and Microwaves were planning a tour, we decided to crash a portion of it and test out some of these as of now still unwritten, new songs.”
CHILD BITE w/ Microwaves, Multicult:
3/15/2019 Sanctuary – Detroit, MI
3/16/2019 X-Ray Arcade – Milwaukee, WI
3/17/2019 Livewire Lounge – Chicago, IL

New York hostile alchemist GRIDFAILURE will launch the extensive Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery concept album series through Nefarious Industries in February — the month GRIDFAILURE marks its third year of inception – by releasing the first of five albums. The lead track to the first album Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I, “Sandy,” is now streaming as preorders for the record are posted.
GRIDFAILURE’s concept sequence, Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery, is a series of albums which predict a grim, rapidly-approaching reality. The series’ five titles culminate tales of nature’s decimating wrath in response to humanity’s provocation, and the effects on our civilization. The series will include Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I, II, and III, and will culminate with the two massive albums Teeth Collection and Drought Stick, which document random stories from the final days of the human species.
As resources are depleted, so are morals, and as monolithic storms ravage the planet, neighbors turn on one another, and once war and uprising decimate the population, survivors are left to slaughter for survival in a diseased and polluted wasteland aftermath. Sources of uncontaminated energy, food, and water are scarce on the grim sphere, and the species’ reliance on technology has left most humans helpless to do anything but wait to be pillaged and consumed by marauding outlander factions or simply perish in the unforgiving climate. Themes of cannibalism, disease, delirium, revenge, scourge, warfare, and general underhandedness are written from haphazard points of view within the withering human race in the multi-release series, which infuse heavy elements of tribal/and percussion with post-industrial and mechanical beats resembling a biomechanical hybrid, deploying a communal aura of woe and rage.
Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I delivers over fifty-two minutes of GRIDFAILURE’s paranoia-induced powerdementia. The album was entirely conceived, written, executed, recorded, mixed, and completed with hand drawn art by GRIDFAILURE’s architect David Brenner who plays vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, electric, analog, and acoustic drums, keys, synth, harmonica, violin, theremin, field recordings, and more. Many elements of the record were written in times of blackout – including lyrics and themes written during a long blackout during Superstorm Sandy before GRIDFAILURE’s inception – and elements recorded during open air sessions during extreme storms including outdoors, and more, helping embody the outfit’s moniker itself.
Additionally, the series embodies a wide range of contributions from fellow henchpersons who help sculpt the auditory terror into curious new dimensions, including bass from Greg Meisenberg (A Fucking Elephant, Maid Myriad, Tombs-live), vocals from Joy Von Spain (Eye Of Nix, To End It All), accordion from Benjamin Levitt (Megalophobe, Gridfailure-live), guitar from Pete Tsakiris, ukulele from Christopher Henry (Humans Etcetera, Fuck Your Birthday), and drums from BJ Allen (Full Scale Riot). The album was mastered by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering (Buzzov*en, Kool Keith, Dwarves, Krieg, AxCx.).
English rockers BRING ME THE HORIZON have released a new song called Mother Tongue, another epic pop rock single that cements their new style showcased on just released album Amo, available now via RCA.
Rock act RIVAL SONS have released their acclaimed new album FERAL ROOTS, available today at all DSPs and www.rivalsons.com. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Dave Cobb at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A, and the equally legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, AL, FERAL ROOTS marks Rival Sons’ debut release for Low Country Sound/Atlantic Records.
“In all its mood and style, FERAL ROOTS exudes a delicious instrumental blend of rock,” declared Consequence of Sound, while Glide Magazine affirmed, “Rival Sons clearly brought their A game with (FERAL) ROOTS,” adding Rival Sons are “an obvious choice as a challenger for today’s greatest rock and roll band.”
FERAL ROOTS features the Top 10 rock hit “Do Your Worst,” which the band’s own Jay Buchanan and Scott Holiday recently stripped back in an acoustic session at PASTE Studios. Additional album highlights include “Too Bad,” “Feral Roots,” and “Look Away” which is currently serving as the sonic backdrop for PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash the Beast series, airing on CBS and CBS Sports Network.
Rival Sons will celebrate FERAL ROOTS with their first-ever full North American headline tour. The dates begin April 4th at Dallas, TX’s Trees and include stops at New York’s Brooklyn Steel, Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, and end with a sold-out performance at Los Angeles’ Henry Fonda Theatre. Support on all US headline dates comes from The Sheepdogs. Following the North American headline run Rival Sons will head to Manchester, TN for the 2019 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival where they will perform on Friday, June 14th. For complete details and ticket information, please visit www.rivalsons.com.
FERAL ROOTS was first heralded this fall with the release of “Do Your Worst,” hailed by Rolling Stone as “a relentless rocker with a gritty verse spearheaded by a sinister lead guitar riff and thumping drums. The track takes a deft turn when it hits the chorus, forgoing out-and-out guitar bombast for rousing gang vocals with singer Jay Buchanan leading the charge.” “Do Your Worst” is joined by an official music video that shows Rival Sons at their onstage best, alongside behind-the-scenes footage and a performance filmed at the aforementioned Studio A.
“Back In The Woods” made its debut by way of Consequence of Sound, which declared it to be “a rootsy rock track, with (Rival Sons) not only taking us ‘Back In The Woods’ but also back in time to big classic rock sounds of the ’60s and ’70s.” “Feral Roots,” the sprawling title track arrived alongside an official visualizer, shot by Rival Sons’ vocalist Jay Buchanan and Steven Bradley in the woods of Franklin, TN. The visualizer premiered with Billboard alongside an exclusive interview with Buchanan who detailed the track and the group’s forthcoming album.
Invisible Oranges is currently streaming 666-Pack, the impending new full-length from Austrian crossover thrashers INSANITY ALERT, in its fiery entirety! Writes the esteemed blog, “INSANITY ALERT party like it’s 1989, give or take a few years. The Austrian band had their self-titled 2014 debut reissued by Season Of Mist in March of last year, but their upcoming release 666-Pack sees not only yore-friendly riffs but even the pop culture references are a throwback. They reference Milli Vanilli, MC Hammer, ‘8-Bit Brutality,’ and, um, Slayer… Although the longest song is the whiplash-inducing ode to Transformers “Dark Energon,” the average song runs about ninety seconds. There is nothing subtle about what motivates them: INSANITY ALERT likes beer (‘Why So Berrious?’), pot (‘Two Joints’), GI Joe (‘Cobra Commander’), and the thrash metal and crossover pioneered three decades ago.”
Forged in Innsbruck in 2011 and influenced by the likes of SOD, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Nuclear Assault, Bones Brigade, Municipal Waste, and Toxic Holocaust, members of INSANITY ALERT are the kind of people who know what to bring to a party: a big dose of humor with a dash of darkness, party tunes, and a six pack. It’s these ingredients that make up the basis of the band’s third full-length. A relentless, twenty-one-track ripper, 666-Pack brings the classic spirit of speed metal’s salad days back with savage metal precision. Ultra-catchy riffs, vicious vocals, and empowering gang vocals are packed into short, sharp rapid-fire attacks delivering everything great about thrash in spades.
