Leeway is a NY hardcore band with metal influences formed in New York in 1984 by vocalist Eddie Sutton, voice and face of the band. Lyrically and vocally, Leeway were firmly rooted in the hardcore punk genre as could also be seen by the company they chose to keep – Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Sick Of It All, and Cro-Mags to name but a few. Musically, however, it was a mixture of metal and hardcore, which created a sound many fans of both genres had their likes.
When their 1989’s album “Born To Expire” came out it surprised everyone because it was totally metallic sounding. It re-wrote the book on New York hardcore. Most of the songs are played at thrash metal pace but at hardcore punk-style track lengths. The band even had time to experiment with rap and funk on songs like “Catholic High School”.
Now in 2015, 19 years after their split, mastermind and vocalist of Leeway Eddie Sutton decided to return to Europe to bring back the ultimate Leeway experience!
Eddie Sutton: “I do not believe in calling it Leeway because it isn’t for me….it’s just me and friends putting on a great Leeway show….I’m not going to lie to my fans and call this just Leeway….this is the ultimate Leeway show we do the first two records that´s it.”
