REFUSED reunion tour dates [UPDATE]

6 mins read

European hardcore punk legends REFUSED are continuing their reunion tour.

The band played their final U.S. reunion show on November 5th, 2012 in Los Angeles with the final set of shows to take place in December, mostly be in Sweden, with one in Norway. Scroll down to see the dates.

Here’s the official word issued on October 26th, 2012:

GOIN’ HOME

So there were those years right after school, when you were 15 and pissed off and everyone thought you were a loser and you ran around with the other weirdos, generating weirdness and little else. And there were those years when what set you apart from the others become a fixation and a lifestyle and you had a band and people talked about what you did but you were so used to being weird you just lumped them in with the rest of the slanderers. Then there were those years when the ideas you’d clung to through late adolescence were beginning to ring hollow and you got more and more confused and destructive and the band broke up and you had rent to pay. That was among the tougher years. And then slowly, over a span of time, you began to sort yourself out and your friends started making sensible decisions in their lives and it suddenly began to seem like most of you were gonna be ok.

And then there was the year when you stopped being a petulent kid and you got your favorite musicians together in a room again and decided that you were gonna accept the love of thousands of listeners, accept the success that was waiting there to be had and just in general enjoy being appreciated for the exact same qualities that made you a freak to your contemporaries in your teens. This was one of the better years.

And now it is coming to a close. It’s been kind to us. And that old punkrock golem “The shape of punk to come” has done good. The hatchet is buried, 1998 is not such a terrible memory for us anymore. We’re going home. And we’re doing it in style.

With old friends and new acquaintances in tow we’re gonna take over our old hometown Umeå for one more night, just because we can. On the 15th of december at the Exel arena we’ll be sharing the stage with these magnificent comrades: Randy (http://www.randytheband.com/), a band of punkrock bandidos from the north who we befriended years before we even were Refused, Two White Horses, an excellent sister/brother-duo from Sävar, both of whom we’ve individually collaborated with in different musical projects through the years, and Råd Kjetil Senza Testa, a new and exciting musical collective consisting of old Umeå pop and hardcore scenesters, among them the guy who produced the very first version of New noise for a local hardcore compilation in early 1997. We unconditionally endorse these bands.

Great music, good crude fun, what more do you need? It’s going to be one of those nights.

Thank you for populating the pit in 2012.

Over and out.

Here’s the official word issued before their final U.S. show:

Swedish hardcore band Refused have announced that they will play their final US reunion show on November 5th, 2012 at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles, concluding a series of hugely successful performances in an intimate club environment where Refused is best appreciated. Pre-sale for the LA show will be available Wednesday, September 12th at 12 NOON and will and will include limited edition bundles ( VIP, ticket + limited edition t-shirt with show date) with all fees and proceeds going to SSE (Syrentha Savio Endowment)/ Shirts for a Cure (http://syrentha.org) and can be purchased by going to (http://tixx1.artistarena.com/refused/).

Playing their first show since their break-up in the late 90’s in April of this year, the band has completed a masslively successful, sold-out headlining run this summer that reached pinnacle points at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the FYF Fest in September and landed the band on numerous ‘not to miss lists ’ which the New York Times described as “sweaty, full-tilt punk impact coupled with smart precision, exactly why Refused fans had hoped for a reunion.” Refused made their “brilliant, long overdue (Spin.com)” debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on July 18th and will play their final festival show on Saturday November 3rd at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX.

Originally released in 1998, The Shape of Punk to Come has become one of the most influential albums in decades, fusing punk, metal, hardcore, techo, jazz, emo, and hip-hop into a meld of intricate, politically charged punk that has graced ‘best of’ lists since its release. Refused’s most critically acclaimed and final album exploded on the scene with the jaw-dropping hardcore anthem “New Noise,” which helped change the game forever by influencing a range of genres to this day.

On January 27 the band commented:

We are extremely flattered at the overwhelming response to our New York City show. Tickets sold out in less than an hour. Unfortunately we realize that there are some people who are abusing this and attempting to re-sell those tickets at an unfair price. In order to serve our fans we will be adding a second show at Terminal 5 on Sunday, April 22nd. The pre-sale tickets and bundles will benefit Shirts For A Cure and will go on sale Tuesday, Jan 31 at 3PM EST with the public on-sale to follow on Wednesday, February 1 at 12PM EST. Tak Som Fan (Thank You!).
