SELF DEFENSE FAMILY collective streaming new 7”

1 min read

SELF DEFENSE FAMILY have unveiled a full stream of their new record, featuring tracks ‘Maybe You Could Explain It to Me’ and ‘Bastard Form’. Dubbed ‘ybe You Could Explain It To Me’, the 7” is available via Alternative Label. “Bastard Form” finds singer Patrick Kindlon in his most bitter mindset to date as the instruments rage through rounds of a familiar melody. Side B’s “Maybe You Could Explain It To Me” takes us to a more sentimental place with beautiful guitar and piano melodies as Kindlon remarks on all the things you can forget in a day. The release shows two classic dynamics of SELF DEFENSE FAMILY in a way that feels new.

The band’s frontman commented:

“There’s that moment in the Matt Sweeney / Will Oldham song ’Blood Embrace’ where the narrator flips his position and the whole lens you take the song through has to change with him. There’s a Moby Grape song [that] does it perfect going the other way. Lyrically, I’ve been trying to pull that off for years. Got it this time.”
