Italian vegan straight edge metalcore / metallic hardcore act TO ASHES release new EP called “The Refusal To Accept” on Bound By Modern Age Records and Animals X Kingdom. These folks went under the radar for some time, though now, they’re fully back in the game. Bright Light strikes again with 5 new songs on a 7” that will make you 2-step in your bedroom when no one’s looking. Did you dig In My Eyes? Focus on the Light True Colors makes you stoked every time you put it on? Dudes and dudettes, you won’t be disappointed with Bright Light. Silesian boys prove it one more time – PLHC is something not to be ashamed of. Check out the 2 upcoming songs from “Break it out” EP.

Polish melodic, atmospheric black / death metal act IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE release new video for their track “As Future Evaporates”, taken from new album “Vanitas”, scheduled for a September 22nd release via Arachnophobia Records.
“The video was shot amidst the woods and lakes of the Western Pomerania region, where I come from. The solitude and total silence of this place enabled us to capture the mood of the song accurately. The video conveys the leitmotif of our entire new album – that death accompanies our whole lives. We encounter it at different stages and its growing awareness should drive us to make the most out of the time we were given. Sadly, few have enough guts to aim at something more than barely surviving.”

World Negation came to life in 2013 in Saarlouis/Germany and play Heavy Hardcore with a big influence of 90ies New York style. Meaning two things: Agression and anger.
Tuned down guitars, groovy basslines, straight to the face drums and pissed off vocals. If you are looking for compromise, World Negation is the wrong band for you.
All members played in bands of various styles in heavy music. This influence gives the sound of World Negation this little extra and makes them unique.

British death metallers VENOM PRISON released a new music video for their song The Exquisite Taste Of Selfishness, taken from their debut record Animus.
While so many young bands are joining the metallic hardcore cause, Venom Prison have left that pack in favour of something heavier and even more destructive. The uncontrollable rage that surges through their debut album is the milk that feeds the sick and twisted ensemble who work in tandem to create such a hellish racket, the demon spawn would flee in agony. The hyper-tempo drums and thrash-influenced riffing grow and swell like a rotting carcass, but its Larissa Stupar’s formidable, bloodcurdling roar that separates Venom Prison from their peers. Sounding like it would punch you in the neck just to see if you’d drop, Animus is a revved up piece of horrific beauty, allowing you to satiate yourself on the very worst of society. Lyrical topics range from rape revenge to the End Times, and when the angels do finally fall from the sky this will be what caused it. Hellish and violent from start to finish, it’s hard to believe this is the band’s debut album. Just imagine how pissed off they’ll be for the follow-up. – Terrorizer

About the new song “Babel” the members of UFOMAMMUT offer,
“The track is based on Babel as Babylon, a biblical myth that explains why we all speak different languages. After the great flood, a united humanity speaking a single language reunite in Babylon and they built a tower to reach heaven. God, as usual, scattered all the people around the world giving them different languages…The tower of Babel represents the perfection that goes against God. And that’s why the title of our new album resounds in 100 different ways.”
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN open up on their decision to call it a day after a career spanning more than 20 years:

Copenhagen based punk rock act BIG MESS will release their second album ‘Try To Enjoy It’ via Indisciplinarian on September 29th. The band recently unveiled a new track and video called “Pick Ur Queen” (watch below). ‘Try To Enjoy It’ is a melodic, energetic punk rock record, which – besides its rock n’ roll setup – also shines with its colorful instrumentation born out of imagination, play and impulsive experimentation. BIG MESS has created an ambitious yet still 100 % home made record, that penetrates both brain, heart and gut with its direct melodiosity and very human impressions of a life in change.
Dead Serious Recordings has signed LONG ARMS, a new band feat. James Menefee, former vocalist of RIVER CITY HIGH (Doghouse Records, Takeover Records) and current vocalist of HIGLEY. The band will release their debut LP on November 3rd via Dead Serious and Season Of Mist (see the teaser below). For fans of THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM, THE MENZINGERS, JIMMY EAT WORLD.
Years before playing raw-throated rock & roll with Long Arms, James Menefee (River City High, Higley) cut his teeth as a punk rocker, forming his first band at 12 years old and touring across America while still a teenager. Those were whirlwind years, filled with the highs and lows of a life spent on the road. He played shows with his heroes. He appeared on MTV. He slept on floors, signed with a major label, and wrote songs that told the whole story. Years later, that story continues with Young Life, the third album by Long Arms. James formed the band in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia, eventually cementing a four-piece lineup around lead guitarist Phil Heesen III, drummer Greg Butler, and bassist Alex Smith. Together, the musicians whipped up a sound rooted in electric guitars and vocal hooks – a sound built for open highways, car dashboards, and barroom stages. Young Life is the sharpest version of that sound, delivering a batch of songs trapped halfway bewteen the rule-breaking spirit of James’ teenage punk days and the epic sweep of electric rock & roll.
German metallized power hardcore punk unit PEACE OF MIND premiered a new video for their song “Twist of Fate”, taken from the “MMXVI” Release EP, eleased on the 28th of April via Dead Serious Recordings.

KING OF NOWHERE, a dynamic, experimental alt rock group that masterfully captures both deeply intimate and radically political emotional soundscapes, premiered a new single Pigeons, a track fuses the intimate with the heavy in a powerful exploration of the pain and anger that comes with defeat. This past year, the band has been busy recording in the studio and touring the east coast in preparation for the release of their upcoming album, Blooms Hang Heavy. This skillfully written project incorporates experimental & ambient heavy rock with unbelievably raw lyrics to explore the complexities and flaws within the American system.
To celebrate the release of King of Nowhere’s highly anticipated project, Blooms Hang Heavy, the band will be playing a release show at Sunnyvale. GO HERE to get more details.
The members of King of Nowhere originally came together in 2013 in the Western Massachusetts DIY scene and have played in various configurations over the past few years. They reunited in their current form in New York, and have since shared these songs across the northeast. Their upcoming album, Blooms Hang Heavy has been exactly one year in the making, and marks the groups first release with this lineup, as well as their move towards a heavier, more focused sound. Recorded in Vermont and New York, this project represents the group processing the disconnect of modern life and the struggle to find meaning and stability in the midst of it. Rooted in rock, their experimental sound is at moments deeply intimate, and at others outward-facing and political. Blooms Hang Heavy is out September 10th.
NYC noise rock trio UNSANE confirms more than a month of new North American tour dates for the fall months, as well as additional European tour dates, in support of their crushing eighth LP, Sterilize, which is set for release through Southern Lord on September 29th. Joining them on the road will be PLAGUE MARKS, the self-proclaimed “stain on the smile of the Philadelphia music scene,” a new quartet comprising members of Creepoid, Fight Amp, Ecstatic Vision, and The Powder Room. Debut EP Anxiety Driven Nervous Worship is set to drop October 27th on Minneapolis label Learning Curve Records.
Days after the release of Sterilize, UNSANE will raid Europe on a massive tour that spans more than a month, running from October 5th through November 7th, including the new Southern Lord showcase in Amsterdam on October 29th alongside Magma, Sunn O))), Okkultokrati, Wolfbrigade, Circle, Big|Brave, and Vitamin X, after which the band returns stateside and embarks on the newly-announced North American tour. Leading with the two previously-announced Brooklyn shows on November 16th and 17th, twenty-four new shows have been announced, which sees UNSANE winding clockwise around the country and into Canada, the tour ending December 19th in Philadelphia.
Providing support for UNSANE, Plaque Marks will join the tour from November 17th through December 10th, Child Bite will open from December 12th through 19th, and labelmates Big|Brave will support from December 12th through 16th, as well as the 18th, and 19th.
Closing a five-year gap since the 2012 release of their Wreck LP through Alternative Tentacles, UNSANE makes a vicious return with Sterilize, a record that recalls the most defining elements of the band’s seminal Scattered, Smothered, And Covered, and Occupational Hazard albums, surging with the band’s unrelenting singular sound created by guitarist/vocalist Chris Spencer, bassist/vocalist Dave Curran, and drummer Vinnie Signorelli. Sterilize showcases the group sounding as dense and damaging as ever, and sees them remaining as necessary as ever, nearly three decades since they began.

Dreamy alt rockers MOSSBREAKER premiered new music video, “Between the Noise and You”, the title track off the Los Angeles trio’s latest album, Between the Noise and You, released in July on Glory Kid Ltd.
As displayed on “Between the Noise and You,” Mossbreaker makes heavy, dreamy rock, descended from ’90s alternative icons like Failure and Hum. A driving beat and fuzzed-out guitars set up vivid hooks that absolutely enthrall – melancholy yet electrifying.
In a perfect match-up, none other than Failure frontman Ken Andrews, a true pioneer of the ’90s scene, provides the guest vocals heard on the song. Rolling Stone called Failure, “one of the great unsung alterna-metal bands of the Nineties… Muscular, rhythmic, beautifully spacey rock.”
Mossbreaker frontman Gabe VanBenschoten says this about collaborating with Andrews:
“It was a dream come true to have my mentor and one of our biggest influences take part in a piece of music we’ve created. I began working for Ken in 2012, starting out as an intern at his home studio then eventually becoming Failure’s touring guitar tech. I’ve been through a lot with Ken and the guys over the past five years and I consider them family. It’s still pretty surreal to have Ken Andrews sing on our record and appear in the video.”
MOSSBREAKER embarks on a West Coast tour this week, with Sheer on most dates:
Sep 7 – Los Angeles, CA @ Lot 1 w/ Sheer
Sep 8 – San Francisco, CA @ Neck of the Woods w/ Sheer
Sep 9 – Portland, OR @ The Alleyway Bar w/ Sheer
Sep 10 – Seattle, WA @ Black Lodge w/ Sheer
Sep 11 – Medford, OR @ Johnny B’s
As promised earlier this year, Swedish melodic crust d-beat punks from MYTERI are releasing their new record Ruiner through Replenish Records on 180gram white wax with black haze (limited to 200 copies), 180gram gray wax with black haze (limited to 300 copies), and 180gram black wax (limited to 500 copies)! Pre-order are up now via the label’s site.
Formed in Sweden in the winter of 2013, Myteri is a five-piece band from Gothenburg, Falköping, and Kristinehamn that combines hardcore, crust, and d-beat to create a catalyst of uncompromising vocals, unyielding melodies, and unmerciful percussion in order to inspire change. The band examines the conflict between being alive and being human while being completely conscious of the fact that mankind is the most destructive species on the planet.

Lyrically, Emmer Effer’s are a glimpse into the everyday realities that many people go through, such as death, drugs, love, politics, and friendship.

A number of scientific researchers from Harvard did an interesting study on how brain connectivity reflects human aesthetic responses to music.
Humans uniquely appreciate aesthetics, experiencing pleasurable responses to complex stimuli that confer no clear intrinsic value for survival. However, substantial variability exists in the frequency and specificity of aesthetic responses. While pleasure from aesthetics is attributed to the neural circuitry for reward, what accounts for individual differences in aesthetic reward sensitivity remains unclear. Using a combination of survey data, behavioral and psychophysiological measures and diffusion tensor imaging, we found that white matter connectivity between sensory processing areas in the superior temporal gyrus and emotional and social processing areas in the insula and medial prefrontal cortex explains individual differences in reward sensitivity to music. Our findings provide the first evidence for a neural basis of individual differences in sensory access to the reward system, and suggest that social–emotional communication through the auditory channel may offer an evolutionary basis for music making as an aesthetically rewarding function in humans.

New York / California (now instrumental) post rock band NIGHT VERSES have parted their ways with vocalist Douglas Robinson. The band will enter the studio later this month with producer Will Putney to begin tracking their third album. See the official word below and check out a cool video of the band rehearsing for the new record.
“As of today, we (Aric, Nick, Reilly) will be continuing Night Verses as an instrumental trio. We came to this decision mutually with Douglas and believe it is the best thing for us all moving forward. We’d like to take this time to not only thank Douglas for his commitment and contributions to the band for the past 5+ years, but to also acknowledge how important he was to the foundation of the band. We’ve played hundreds of shows around the world together, and made art that we’ll be proud of forever. Thank you to our team and everyone at Equal Vision / Graphic Nature records for the continued support, and most of all, thank you for staying interested and taking the time to read this.”
Former MAN OVERBOARD lead vocalist Zac Eisenstein’s project BRIGHT GREEN have released a new five song full band EP entitled “That’s Heaven Behind Me” which is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Youtube and anywhere else that digital music is sold or streamed. The project will be playing various dates in the United States throughout 2017 starting Sept 9th and 10th with STATE CHAMPS in Jersey City, NJ and Pittsburgh, PA. Listen to “that’s heaven behind me” here: www.brightgreenmusic.com.
Zac Eisenstein, lead vocalist for New Jersey pop-punk act Man Overboard has never been a stranger to writing a large volume of songs. Along with Man Overboard co-vocalist and co-songwriter, Nik Bruzzese the pair penned 90 songs that saw their way onto various Man Overboard releases.
When Man Overboard took a prolonged break in 2015, Zac took that time to focus his attention on something new. The product was called Bright Green and an EP of acoustic pop-punk songs called “The Highs Are Getting Lower.” While at home during 2016 and 2017 between sporadic touring, Zac took the time to toil over the sound of his new project. Never content with the status quo or recreating past projects, he created a new batch of songs and brought them to Nik Bruzzese at The Lumberyard Studios in New Jersey.
The result, the “That’s Heaven Behind Me” EP is a departure from the standard pop-punk sound fans have come to expect from Zac. It’s a sound that is not only darker but more personal than ever before. The EP reflects the change is Zac’s life from spending nine months a year on the road with Man Overboard, to a life at home and all of the changes that come with it. In the opening of ‘I Walk Away’ he sings “I won’t sink / I will float with my red apple in my mouth / Should be rotting now,” a nod to the loss of his former band but his eternal ability as a songwriter to carry on and create something new. “That’s Heaven Behind Me,” is Zac Eisenstein finding his home as Bright Green.
New dreamy acoustic solo act ANTSARECAVEMAN (Vito Pesce) premiered a new live video for his new song “Nothing”, coming from a new EP, to be detailed soon.
Some sources are reporting that ex-AS I LAY DYING vocalist Tim Lambesis are reporting that Lambesis is planning to resurrect the metalcore act! Tim was released from prison on December 17th last year after being pled guilty to a charge of solicitation of a hitman to commit murder of his wife. Meanwhile, ARCHSPIRE vocalist Oliver Rae Aleron has launched a GoFundMe for $2,000 to help him him “fight Tim Lambesis”. The campaign has been taken down. Hmm… It’s just weird after weird.
German melodic post hardcore act ALAZKA have released a new music video for their single “Ghost”, coming from their upcoming debut album, Phoenix, to be released on the 1st of September via Arising Empire & SharpTone Records.
The band commented:
“‘Ghost’ is one of our more straight forward songs. Its message is quite simple. If your past haunts you like a ghost it’s most likely because you can’t let go of it yourself. We have to take a second glance and try to embrace it to set ourselves free and move forward.”
Swedish metalcore band THE SPRING THIS AUTUMN have released the ‘What Remains EP’ on Spotify. The band formed in 2006 and recorded and released their self-titled full length debut in 2007 without any help from a record label. After a few years of playing shows in Sweden and writing new songs, the band disbanded in 2010. Early 2017 however, they reformed and on 1 September, they released the EP ‘What Remains’ on Spotify, which contains the best songs off the full length album. Soon, pre-orders for the ‘What Remains Cassette’ will be accepted, which will feature the EP plus a few previously unreleased demo tracks.
NJ rockers Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son have shared the first single off of their forthcoming, summer-ending split, “Empty Passenger Seats.”
The song premiered on New Noise Magazine where the Bobby Mahoney (lead vox, guitar) shared,
“‘Empty Passenger Seats’ started as a riff/jam with my friend Dan Cohen (Creating Clementine, Hero of Me), and then I brought it to the band and we shaped it and arranged it together in a hotel room near Pittsburgh. John Shepherd whistled that little guitar lick in the chorus, and recording that bit was one of my favorite parts of the process for these new songs. We drove over night home from Richmond at the end of last summer’s tour, and that experience became the lyrics for the bridge.
This song feels like the band’s current journey in a way, and it is just a lot of fun to play. It’s loud and it kicks you in the ass. This is the first of a bunch of new singles we will be releasing and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. We had a great time working with Frank Marra (Brian Fallon, Jared Hart, Dead Swords, many more) at North End Recording and we can’t wait to keep releasing the new songs.”
Originally formed for a one-off gig under the name “Seventh Son,” Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son have been rocking audiences in the various New Jersey scenes since 2010. With the titular Mahoney (guitar, lead vox) serving as the group’s sole constant, the talented, fiery performer is now readying a slew of releases joined by James McIntosh (drums) Andrew Saul (guitar/backing vox) and John Shepherd (bass/backing vox).
Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son are set to close Summer ‘17 out strong with singles “Empty Passenger Seats” and “Another Deadbeat Summer” now officially on the way.
The single drops are the first new pieces of music from the band since the release of their third studio album, the raw, gritty Shot in the Dark, in 2016.
Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son, known throughout New Jersey for their incendiary live show, has shared bills with international touring acts like The Gaslight Anthem, The Hold Steady, Pianos Become the Teeth, Pity Sex and more. On August 31st, the band will celebrate the release of “Empty Passenger Seats” by headlining a major show at the House of Independents in Asbury Park, NJ.
Look for more in advance of the release “Empty Passenger Seats” and “Another Deadbeat Summer” and be sure to follow Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son on any of their social platforms detailed below.
Exploding In Sound Records and Shea Stadium are teaming up to release EIS: Live at Shea Stadium, a collection of live performances handpicked from the DIY venue’s extensive archive of live shows. The LP + CS combine to include tracks from 24 different bands, all of whom have both played at Shea Stadium and released music on the label, both past (Porches, LVL UP, Palehound, Krill) and present (Pile, Bad History Month, Baked, Big Ups), dating as far back as 2012. Complete tracklisting for both LP and CS below.
Connecticut indie rockers OVLOV are sharing “The Valley,” captured live on June 19th, 2015 together with GoldFlakePaint magazine and below. The site shared,
“Taken from 2011’s What’s So Great About The City? EP, ‘The Valley’ is indicative of Ovlov’s hurried charm, the band ripping through the track’s two-and-a-half minutes in a flurry of noisy, gnarly guitars and Steve Hartlett’s rugged lead voice that never once pauses for breath, driving the whole thing forwards to its feisty end-point.”
After Shea was forced to close it’s doors this Spring, the venue launched a Kickstarter campaign to help with their effort to re-open. While the venue reached it’s fundraising goal in less than a day, ultimiately, their landlord decided to pull the plug on the 20 Meadow St. location. In the true spirit of DIY ethos, this record is a way not only to help raise money to help Shea find a new location, but to show the importance and the impact that these intersecting communities have had on each other. There is a tremendous amount of love and respect between these two factions, who have always worked tirelessly in the name of a thriving underground music scene in NYC and beyond.
A long time coming, this also marks the first live compilation of it’s kind (in physical format) from the venue or the label. The recordings were remixed by the venue’s founder Adam Reich, who has overseen Shea’s massive archive of show recordings from the past eight years and mastered by Mike Tucci.
