Hardcore blog Toxicbreed’s Funhouse is calling it quits. See the official word below and be sure to browse throough their pages before it’s tooo late.
This is a long time coming, but I figured it was time to finally put it down in writing. We will be putting Toxicbreed’s Funhouse to rest after a nine year run. Due to time constraints and new life ventures, we just don’t have the free time or energy to maintain an active blog at this point. I just want to take a moment and thank each and every one of you who checked out the site, supported our projects, and kept the social community around the site itself an active and fun place. Upon initially starting the blog in 2008 I had zero idea it would last as long as it has and would have gotten such a strong following over the years. Thank you to each and every one of you who helped us break the 7 million page view mark in our existence.
Thank you and goodbye,
Wayne & Eliot
Oakville, Ontario’s emo pop punk rockers PARKSIDE are streaming their new EP “Whenever You’re Ready”. Listen below and go here to see their upcoming dates with BELMONT and NIGHTWELL.
Ohio screamy hardcore pack WOLF TEETH are streaming new 2-track single “Fractures//Thread Count”, teasing their upcoming EP “Patience”. Chaos and consistency make for a winning combination here and I can’t wait to hear the whole record.
Be sure to give it a listen!
The two songs being premiered today are quite different and showcase WOLF TEETH’s various influences without being able to peg any single one down. “Thread Count” is super intense and I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a WOLF TEETH fan who doesn’t think this is their best song. It begins with a brief, lulling intro that abruptly stops, only to come back full-force, complete with awesome screaming from vocalist Eddy. And oh my, that bass is fucking stupid good. The song slips into a few different transitions reaching into different territory but always comes back to that great opening riff which brings Youth Novel to mind, save the ending which is screamy metalcore complete with a dual-screaming breakdown not unlike early From A Second Story Window. “Fractures” is very subdued and could be labeled hardcore/post-hardcore before anything screamy. I’m reminded of a bit of Helmet and Snapcase as the song has a very different feel to it, accentuated most obviously by the slower pace and doubled song length. / Open Mind / Saturated Brain – GO HERE to see the full feature
Gainesville, Florida’s emo indie punk rockers DIKEMBE are streaming a new re-=mixed version of their 2013 EP “Chicago Bowls”. Listen below and pick up one of the picture disc 12″s at this spot.
This album was finally remixed to sound decent and have the samples in it. David did a great job remixing it for the picture disc release. I heard guitar parts and vocals that I didn’t even know were in the songs before. So that’s cool.
Antwerp’s gritty hardcore act LOTUS are back with a new record ‘The Road To Calvary’, a strong second full-length, a harrowing exercise in self-reflection, drenched in brutal honesty. Listen below.vir
First it’s gritty, then it’s groovy. It’s unsparingly fast and then it’s provocatively down-tempo: TRTC is an unapologetically intense album with relentlessly straightforward riffs and brutally honest lyrics. Recorded by Nico van Montfort in the Winter of 2017, and mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Studio, this record gets deeply under your skin and makes you want to put your head through a wall. In a sense, it feels quite familiar, because it’s an album in true LOTUS style: in and out, with little room to catch your breath. But the combination of pumping guitars, a massive drum sound and frightfully gruff vocals gives a whole new dimension to what this band has been bringing since day one.
With videos for ‘The Plea’ and ‘The Slit“, LOTUS has given the world a first taste of what to expect from ‘The Road To Calvary’, which will be released on 9 December by Shield Recordings and Assault Records. And with a highly private person as a singer, you can only sense what the album’s lyrics are all about. But in the face of loss, hardship and distress, LOTUS always succeeds in letting a tinge of unwavering combativeness shimmer through. So if you feel like you’re trapped or about to hit a dead end, give this record a spin. You’ll get your fighting spirit back for sure.
Brisbane based ruined smile records and Drunk With Love Records have shared a new tender split by Virginia Sook and Wendy Eisenberg. Virginia comes from Brisbane, Australia, and is based in different locations around Europe at the moment, while Wendy is a guitarist improviser and composer from Boston, Massachusetts, who started writing songs after she came to the awareness that being a musician is equal parts being a wolf and a cube. It’s blend of indie folk drama, ballad spectres memoir and is compelling, made as intimate as if you were sitting in the same room, tickled by two astounding attention-commanding voices of both artists. Listen for yourself.
Britsh punk rock label Drunken Sailor Records has premiered a cool sampler featuring 21 tracks off each of all their releases in 2017. The record finds a bunch of great artists reworking a suite of punk rock songs with their trademark hooks and varied stylistics.
Chilean emotional, screamy hardcore band NEPUGIA (featured in a 5-way interview earlier this year) are streanming their new vicious split with their crusty powerviolence friends from PARASITO. Both bands exploit a unique balance of tuneful and brutal, and the split seems to be an essential listen for anyone interested in the genre.
Pabianice based Polish gritty, crusty hardcore pack DESPIZER are streaming their new nihilistic power track “Wężownik II”, coming from their new record “Pogarda”, a follow up to their 2013 debut Joyride of Despair, and hopefully a good proof that DESPIZER is one of the true keepers of the Scandinavian metallic hardcore lineage. Listen below and stay tuned for a full record, out next week!
French post-metal innovators DIRGE are streaming their new EP Alma | Baltica today on Decibel Magazine. The record is slated for a December 15 release on Division Records and can be heard at this location. The band’s mixture of atmopsheric climaxes and sonic extremity is the perfect scrub for everything you’ve been subjected to in the genre of post metal, and serves as one of the most richly-crafted experimental metal records to date.
Twenty years divide “Infected Brain Machine”, Dirge’s first demo, and 2014’s “Hyperion”, their sixth and latest album to date. While the first few releases delved into industrial and noisy textures somewhat similar to Godflesh, the French group slowly and progressively widened their sound palette at the turn of the 21st century. Less mechanical and more organic, heavy and suffocating atmospheres follow the lines of corrosive guitars and subsequently become the core of Dirge’s music, predating a genre that would later be baptized as post-hardcore or post-metal. Psychedelic, cold and melancholic elements filling and adorning massive riffs and industrial volutes helped shape album after album.
Born from the will to deepen the most ambient side of Dirge’s signature, “Alma | Baltica” recreates the most bleak and monolithic aspects of the band’s sound in its most atmospheric and abstract version. By working on spaces, resonances, repetitions as well as textures and effects, Dirge offers a ghostly sound made of analogic keys, rippling guitars, enfolding electronics, mesmerizing loops and echoing rhythms. A Voiceless journey between ethereal lines and industrial soundscapes piercing a laid bare wall of sound, “Alma | Baltica” is a real distinct experiment in the band’s discography.

Brighton based alt rock / noise pop trio LAZYBONES have shared their second single ‘Snake’, coming out officially today! The three piece with organ & vocals, fuzzy bass and drums creates a trashy, unapologetic, to-the-point British sound; inspired by Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols and Chas & Dave, comparable to Queens of the Stone Age and Slaves. Check them out below.
All good things come in threes, so they say. They do in this case that’s for damn sure, combining one fuzzy bass guitar, one amplified organ and one set of drums, Brighton’s Lazybones manage to make an almighty racket with that quite low key triptych. Hardly the holy trinity of instruments BUT in the right hands, anything is possible. For example their new song ‘Snake’ is trashy, unapologetic, to-the-point rock and bloody roll, wearing its heart on its sleeve and taking its aim at the liars, cheats and downright scum of the earth. The band are DIY to the core and releasing the single on a limited run of tapes which will have artwork exclusively to that format.
WISDOM IN CHAINS have announced their first two albums have officially returned and will be available again in the New Year! They have added some special treats with these 10 year anniversary bonus edition Digi Pack re-issues, including a never before released track on each. GO HERE to order.

The eight-date trek – which runs from December 12th through December 19th – follows CHILD BITE’s recent tour with Housecore labelmates Superjoint along with DevilDriver and will serve as their final shows of the year. GO HERE to see the details.
CHILD BITE released their Negative Noise full-length last year via Housecore Records. The wild, forty-seven-minute assault was produced by Philip H. Anselmo (Down, Pantera, Scour, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Arson Anthem etc.), mastered by Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer), and is where the Venn diagram of Black Flag, Voivod, and The Jesus Lizard truly overlaps. The record won the #33 of Decible’s Top 40 Albums Of 2016. Hailed Punk News, “This is for the open-minded punk, headbanger, or weirdo. If you like your music a little on the ugly side, you owe it to yourself to check them out.” Added No Clean Singing, “Negative Noise possesses a brilliance and individuality all its own and is a refreshing breath of fetid air in an era saturated with a d-beat-only approach to punk and hardcore.”

Richmond alt dream / noise pop act POSITIVE NO has shared a new single Fro)))zen Warnings, with all profits to be donated to Side by Side, an organisation dedicated to creating supportive communities where Virginia’s LGBTQ+ youth can define themselves, belong, and flourish.
Each year we offer a song for a local charity and this year it is a cover of Nico’s “Frozen Warnings” with a stylistic nod to Sunn O))) = Fro)))zen Warnings. A few things about the song:
1) Kenny and I did everything with the help of our friend Greg Darden who provided us with great samples and noise layers.
2) This is not what we normally sound like so expect the unexpected.
3) The track starts off on the quiet side but do not turn it up too much or you might blow a speaker.
4) The song will be sold through Bandcamp and 100% of the proceeds will go to a local charity called Friends of Side by Side who offer support to Virginia’s LGBTQ + youth community.
