Italian post-hardcore outfit Stormo has officially announced their fifth album, Tagli/Talee, set for release on March 21 via Prosthetic Records.
Alongside the announcement, the band unveiled the lead single, “Kallitype,” paired with a visually arresting music video. The single serves as a preview of the thematic and sonic landscapes Stormo aims to explore while marking a fresh chapter ahead of their debut UK tour early next year.
Vocalist Luca Rocco describes the album as a reflection on “cuts”โboth literal and metaphoricalโas a process of creating space for growth. “Itโs a record that speaks about paying attention to whatโs around you, about staying silent and observing your self that mirrors the world around you,” Rocco explains.
The themes are tightly connected to the albumโs title, which draws from plant-related imagery, with โTagliโ (cuts) and โTaleeโ (grafts) emphasizing balance between destruction and renewal. The band further highlights the value of confronting empty spaces, often feared, as opportunities for something new to bloom.
Written during a ferry ride between Denmark and Norway during their spring 2024 tour, “Kallitype” stands out as a deeply personal track for Rocco. “Metaphorically referring to plants as we did in the artwork and in the album title, we could say we chose to start presenting this new record from a new fresh leaf, but thereโs also thorns and roots that go down deep,” he shares. The track leans into screamo influences, blending raw emotional intensity with the bandโs signature noise-punk energy.

Following their 2023 release Endocannibalismo, Stormo toured extensively across Europe, culminating in a standout performance at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands. The relentless touring schedule informed the songwriting process for Tagli/Talee, which was composed exclusively while on the road. Tracks like “Tagli,” “Kallitype,” and closer “Come Fauce Che Divora” channel the transience of tour life, with nods to Norway’s extreme metal scene woven into the albumโs sound. The pacing of the songs mirrors the energy of their live performances, reflecting Roccoโs interest in unifying the sequencing of a live set with the bandโs recorded material.
Stormo returned to trusted collaborator Diego Castioni for recording duties at Cabot Cove in Bologna. Mixing and mastering were handled by Maurizio Baggio, adding clarity to the albumโs layered soundscapes. Additional sonic textures came from Castioni on “Sabbia Pt. II” and Holy Similaun (Alberto Bertelli) on “Come Fauce Che Divora,” enhancing the albumโs visceral impact. The artwork, created by Massimo Spadari, utilizes intricate lithograph, etching, and linocut techniques, further reinforcing the themes of precision and transformation present throughout the album.
Stormoโs approach to punk remains fiercely individualistic, fusing first-wave screamoโs intensity with noise rock angularity and the blistering speed of black metal. With Tagli/Talee, they aim to push these boundaries further while maintaining their raw and volatile live presence. As they gear up for their first UK tour, Stormoโs commitment to reinvention and experimentation continues to define their trajectory.
Stormo will debut tracks from Tagli/Talee on the following UK dates:
January 15 – Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow
January 16 – The Chapel, Nottingham
January 17 – The Tin Music and Arts, Coventry
January 18 – Moor Brewery, Bristol
January 19 – Reality Unfolds Festival, London
Stormo consists of Luca Rocco (vocals), Michael Barletta (guitar), Federico Trimeri (bass), and Stefano Rutolini (drums).
