Ebullition Records is Kent McClard’s hardcore label. It started in 1990, and its first release, late that year, was a seven-inch by Downcast that came packed with his zine, No Answers. The label says it has always looked for bands taking hardcore punk somewhere new without cutting their ties to the scene.
In 1991 McClard offered San Diego’s End of the Line a full album when Vermiform wanted only a seven-inch, and the band took the album. Orchid, a screamo band, made “Chaos Is Me” for Ebullition in 1999; it was the label’s 45th release and became the most popular record it ever put out. A pressing thought in 2019 to be the last needed three years to find 1,500 buyers, but the ones since have sold out in months. Thirty years after that first seven-inch, Ebullition and Three One G put out Downcast’s first album in 25 years, in 2020.
