Top 5 Under the Radar New York Hardcore Bands, by COMBUST

2 mins read

New York hardcore doesn’t stop. It doesn’t slow down. It doesn’t make space for anything fake. Combust have built their name on that foundation, and their new album, Belly of the Beast, out now on Triple B Records, reinforces every hard lesson the city has to offer.

Twelve tracks recorded at Landmine Studios with Zach Miller, pushing relentless grooves and a vocal delivery that doesn’t pull punches. Lyrically, it’s a rejection of false personas and a straight shot of personal grit.

Features from members of Terror, Mindforce, Crown of Thornz, Dmize, Imposter, and rapper Rome Streetz amplify the communal aspect of hardcore, a scene that thrives when people show up for each other.

Today, we celebrate “Belly of the Beast” with top five under-the-radar New York hardcore bands, as highlighted by Combust vocalist Andrew Vacante.

Bazooka (NYC)

From Queens New York mothafuckaaaaa. Cool ass band that’s got a different sound you know? Not some run of the mill hc. Got a different energy and vibe that people aren’t used to but they make it still sound like a NYHC band and I think that’s what NYHC always did.

Top Dollar (NYC)

Younger, newer band that keeps getting better every time I see them. Drummer rips. High energy hardcore punk shit and I’m stoked on this band and can’t wait for them to put out more music.

Ferment (NYC)

Crazy powerviolence, heavy, chaotic noise, hardcore?….If I was in high school I’d definitely be all about this band. All the people in this band care about the scene they are in a lot and it shows. Mad respect.

Square One (NYC)

Cool new band outta different parts of NYC. Definitely in their Turning Point/ YOT bag. Not hating on that at all. I think they have mad potential. The demo is great. Young native New Yorker riffed on the axe and he’ll be triple certified in no time.

Street Hassle (Syracuse)

This band is awesome. This is like the epitome of the spirit of hardcore in my opinion. I wish they did more…not even gonna describe anything else. this is just your wake up call to check out street hassle.
