Top Advantages of Being a One Man Band, by French screamo act ENTZAUBERUNG

1 min read

Two years since Parisian one-man screamo/emoviolence project ENTZAUBERUNG released its debut full length called β€œDrops”, we’re pleased to give you his special lockdown track called “Stay At Home And Hear The Birds Singing”, unveiling his instrumental ambient and drone explorations, effectively widening the essence of his craft. To celebrate, we’re giving you

Comments ENTZAUBERUNG:

A song and an intention : to remember and to document this lockdown period. A period as strange as unique, heavy and source of anxiety.

Nevertheless, thanks to the lockdown, even in the heart of big cities, you can hear the birds singing all day long. Sweet melodies usually silenced by our noisy life.

Song composed, programmed, performed, recorded and mixed by Entzauberung at home (of course), except for piano, played and recorded by Hainbach (samples from the “Isolation Loops”) / Mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios / Artwork: original image by Felipe Esquivel Reed, Modified image by Entzauberung

1. You are the one and only member of the ship crew.

No leader, no follower, nothing.

2. You don’t have to negociate with others members of the band.

For the lyrics, for a song title, for the global mood of a song, for the way to play this part or that part of a song. You don’t have to negociate for the structure of the song or for the tracklisting order, for the band whom you want to share a split with. For the artwork.

3. If it sucks, you know who to blame.

Haha

4. It it’s not too bad, you know who to congratulate.

Haha.

5. No need to be an planning engineer to plan the next meetings at the rehearsal.

6. You create at your own speed, what you want.

When you want, when you can.

7. A one man band is your shelter.

You can completely express your identity, your tastes. Or create another one identity, a fictive one, the one you dream.

8. It’s a space for recycling your ideas.

It could be the space where you can bring to life all your ideas of riffs or songs unused by your other projects / bands.

9. It’s a space for experimenting.

Your solo project could be a place for free experimentations and in the end it could also nourish your others projects / bands by experimenting some new techniques or improving new skills.

10. It’s an easy way to be 100% DIY (or almost)

All that said, I can not wipe away the fact that playing in an actual band is something unique, strong and beautiful. It’s wonderful when you create something that is not only your own work but something that comes from sharing your feelings, your thoughts, your passion.
