Top youth crew acts today: TIME x HEIST share their picks

Time x Heist have just released The Unforgiving Minute, a new three-song EP out now via Heroes + Martyrs Records. The band, rooted in straight edge hardcore, channels the foundational energy of youth crew with an updated sonic force—tight, fast, and stripped of excess.

It’s their first release since forming a few years back, and while the length is short, the intent is clear: a precise blast of hardcore that both honors and builds on the genre’s legacy.

The EP, recorded with Kyle at Black In Bluhm, features a clean but heavy mix, with breakneck tempos, jagged riffs, and gang vocals that land hard. “This EP is a taste of what’s to come from Time x Heist,” says vocalist Mark. “The goal has always been to have a sound that’s both true to the roots of hardcore and unique in our own way. Working with Kyle… was a good way for us to level up and really dial in the sound we’re going for.”

Clocking in at just under ten minutes, The Unforgiving Minute doesn’t waste time. Every element is sharply focused, from the tightly executed drums to the aggressive but controlled vocal delivery.

The lyrical direction stays close to the band’s straight edge foundation, dealing with themes of resistance, self-discipline, and integrity. There’s nothing nostalgic about it—the band is clearly writing for now, not just rehashing old forms.

In the spirit of youth crew’s collective mindset, the band also offered a list of current acts they see as carrying the torch today. The selection spans multiple continents and represents the same urgency and ethos that defined the subgenre’s original wave in the mid-to-late ‘80s, pioneered by bands like Youth of Today, Chain of Strength, and Bold.

Time x Heist is currently touring North America and will head to Europe in May. See the dates below.

The EP The Unforgiving Minute is available now for streaming and purchase via Heroes + Martyrs Records. The band lineup features Mark (vocals), Robert Garcia (guitar), Rodrigo Martinez (guitar), Alex Morales (bass), and Raphael Angoulvant (drums).

About Face (California, USA)

This band has it all. Catchy riffs. Passionate, heartfelt lyrics delivered perfectly. We were lucky enough to play a few shows with these guys in California and they absolutely killed it every show. Look out for their next release on Rebirth Records!

True Fight (Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan):

The gold standard for Japanese youth crew. These guys have been cranking out hit after hit since 2017. One day we will make it to Japan and play with these guys. Someone help us make it happen!

Remain (Germany):

Played a few shows with Remain in Germany and they blew us and every other band off the stage every night. One of the most energetic live shows I’ve ever seen a band play. They’ve done one US tour that I know of and we’re hoping for another one soon!

Velocity (Indiana, USA)

Perfect pissed off hardcore from the Heartland. Intense live performance and also some of the best people you will ever meet. This band is gonna do big things so don’t sleep!

Cannonball (Manchester, UK)

The UK is having somewhat of a Youth Crew renaissance right now and Cannonball is leading the charge. Recently picked up by the legendary Youngblood Records this is a band we’re really excited to play with on our next overseas tour. “You live your life full of regret. Straight Edge motherfucker don’t you ever forget.”

Contempt (Chicago, USA)

Fast and furious unapologetic straight edge mayhem. Raw enough for the mysterious guy hardcore dudes and catchy enough for the two steppers and varsity jacket sporters. Your fancy hat won’t stand a chance in this pit.
