Modern Baseball released Holy Ghost in May of 2016, debuting at #53 on the Billboard 200 chart and gaining widespread acclaim from The New York Times, NPR, Pitchfork, MTV and more. In a tight 28 minutes, Holy Ghost covers an impressive emotional range. Throughout the process, co-songwriters Jacob Ewald and Brendan Lukens found themselves in different places writing different songs; so they split the record in half. The record kicks off with six songs from Ewald and ends with five from Lukens. What they ended up with was a complete record of the past two years– the highs alongside the lows, tales from the road and glorious days at home alongside songs of heartbreak and personal struggle. The highly anticipated album brings a newfound weight to the band, as they continue to grow emotionally and musically with each new release. 2016 looks to launch the band into even greater things, bringing their fans along as they become a slightly older, slightly more profound version of Modern Baseball.

On November 4th, 2016, The Superweaks released their sophomore LP Better Heavens on Lame-O Records. The album saw some sonic experimentation from The Superweaks, carrying on some of the pop and guitar-rock from their last release, but also finding more dynamic moments throughout. The band softens on track “Diamond Mind,” experiments with synths and vocal effects on “Oh God (We’re All So Miserable Now)” and adds some atmospheric heaviness with “Heavy Dreams” and “Junkie’s Gone To Heaven,” while still delivering great pop hooks on songs like “Better Heavens” and “Glowing.” Better Heavens was dedicated to the band’s bass player and family member Corey Bernard, who passed away this summer. Artwork on the album, both the cover and further art within the LP come from Corey’s old drawings.

Thin Lips debut album Riff Hard came out on Lame-O Records in May of 2016. Singer Chrissy Tashjian steers Thin Lips down the middle lane of pop sensibility, while simultaneously testing the boundaries of some pretty wild licks, bud; backed by rhythm keepers Michael Tashjian (drums and Chrissy’s younger brother), and Kyle Pulley (bass/audio engineer), and auxiliary guitar player, Christopher M. Diehm. 2017 finds the band looking ahead to a European tour with friends, Modern Baseball and the Superweaks, as well as pre-production for a forthcoming full-length record.
