After the debut record โTempleโ and the debut full length โKarmaโ, โMinotaurusโ marks the first live improvisation recording by experimental act MANSUR . The new offering pays a musical homage to the myth of the Minotaur and comes as a mirror of self reflection โ the fear of confronting oneโs inner ugliness. MANSUR takes you on a sonic journey through subterranean labyrinths, evoking spirits from past echoes of Minoa. Today, weโre giving you the first listen of their new track โTheseusโ, along with the bandโs special commentary below.
MANSUR is a newly founded project by Jason Kohnen (Ex-The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Ex-The Mount Fuji, Doomjazz Corporation) and with Dimitry El-Demerdashi (Ex-Phurpa), accompanied by Martina Horvรกth (vocals). The sound of MANSUR meanders in the waters of musical fantasy and reality, deforming and mixing traditional instruments and contemporary electronica.

Comments the band: โEach title of this album represents a character who is part of the Minotaur mythos. The track itself represents a voyage through subterranean worlds, dark labyrinths and new unknown territories although eerily recognisable. Because subconsciously we have all been to these places in the past and thats why they seem so strangely familiar to us, though yet so distant.โ
โThe cover sleeve painting I made for the โMinotavrvsโ album represents the personification of the Minotaur being, its supposed to give him humanity and a soul. To portray a different interpretation to this mythical legend. The Minotaur. Half man, half beast. Son of an adulteress and born from bestiality. Locked up out of jealousy, and punished to a imprisoned life of solitude. We have been meant to despise the Minotaur because of his physical hideousness and his bestial manners. I have never agreed with the mythos of the Minotaur narrative. For me the Minotaur is the equivalent to David Lynchโs โElephant Manโ. A misunderstood, tortured soul, judged by his physical abnormalities. The Minotaur, as the Elephant Man, represents the mirror to our own soul. The internal ugliness we neglect by mocking and taunting the physical deformities of others. The Minotaur is the misunderstood. The one who has to fight the uphill battles alone. And in most cases will die on this journey.โ
