Sussex, NJ hardcore band LESSER MINDS takes a leap with Blind Rage Records – new double single streaming

2 mins read

New Jersey’s hardcore pack Lesser Minds, has announced a thrilling partnership with Blind Rage Records, teasing their latest creative endeavor: a new double single.

Charting a New Course

Lesser Minds appears ecstatic about this new alliance with Blind Rage. The label, under the prudent watch of the multifaceted Gwen Downing-Groth, has had an impressive track record, with successful releases such as Colossal Man’s demo and the sterling debut from Exit Angles. The label’s back catalog is equally impressive, boasting contributions from Gel, Planet On A Chain, Dry Socket, Void Bringer, and Spring Tide.

The band shares, “You can see why we are stoked to be a part of something so great, right?” This new journey stands as a testament to the band’s commitment to their craft and a mutual respect for Blind Rage’s unwavering dedication to genre diversity.

The new “cassingle,” as the band affectionately terms it, will feature the first tracks written since the finalization of the band’s lineup, solidified with the introduction of John on drums and Jerad on guitar. Mixed and mastered by John Naclerio at Nada Studios, the music emanates from the heart of New York’s scenic Hudson Valley.

Fans eagerly await the release of this fresh material, with the record label itself endorsing the upcoming work as “a tight follow up to their excellent EP on Protagonist and just a taste of what’s in store for their debut LP. Fast, heavy hardcore for the hardcore.”

The journey

Brian, one of the founding members of Lesser Minds, revealed in our interview about the band’s inception as a project between him and Paul. Despite the constraints of full-time jobs, other band commitments, and Brian’s involvement in a zine, the two managed to recruit a few friends and write their initial songs.

The evolution of the band saw a lineup including Anthony Willie (Folly), Tom McGreevey (Police Navidad), and Sara Pagluica (Young American Artists), who helped create the band’s second demo. This work caught the attention of Brendan from Protagonist Music, eventually leading to their EP, “futile.”

Brian candidly discusses the band’s struggles to find a consistent lineup due to the various commitments of each member. However, after a series of changes, the band finally found their rhythm with the addition of John Shields on drums and Jerad Mione on guitar, solidifying the band’s lineup and sparking their latest creative period.

Lesser Minds

Discussing the themes of their upcoming songs, Brian shares, “Saved is a song about my anxiety issues…The Trojan is a caricature of the multiple people in my life who have betrayed me in one way or another.” It is this raw emotional honesty, coupled with their hardcore sound, that continues to resonate with their audience.

New album

Lesser Minds in the thick of putting together their first ever album and are squeezing in gigs when they can. Not completely set on a title yet, but there are a few ideas in the works. It’s pretty thrilling to think about dropping an album with Blind Rage and to have a cool spot to let loose with their creativity.

Brian just made a move from Connecticut to New Jersey while the wife and kid are still back at the old house. This time alone has given him a chance to think about things that have happened and start appreciating life more, instead of just feeling down about it. The recent lyrics kinda reflect this personal journey and also check in on the outside world from time to time.

But really, they’re just psyched about making music. They’re all old friends—Paul, Tommy, John—and they get a kick out of talking about music and having different vibes in the mix. And then there’s Jerad, the new guy who fits in so well it’s like they’ve known him for years, not just a few months. And it seems the other guys feel the same way.

Keep your ears open for more new tunes from Lesser Minds soon!
