BRUTUS checks in at Audiotree Sessions for an astounding live performance

October 31, 2023
1 min read

In a recent live session video showcased at Audiotree Sessions, the Belgian rock trio, Brutus, delivered a riveting performance, now available via various streaming platforms.

Stefanie Mannaerts, the band’s vocalist, channeled a profound, almost warrior-like energy during the session. This primal passion wasn’t just felt by the audience; it reverberated through every member of the band, creating a collective experience that was, in a word, visceral.

However, when questioned about the profound nature of their performance, the band’s response was refreshingly simple. They emphasized the joy of camaraderie, the pleasure of being oneself, and the sheer fun of making music with friends.

Brutus, hailing from Leuven, Belgium, and formed in 2013, is not just another name in the world of rock and metal. Their distinctive sound has made them a notable presence in the modern music scene. The combination of Mannaerts’ dual role as the drummer and singer is a sight to behold. But it’s the synergy between Mannaerts, Stijn Vanhoegaerden’s melodic guitar rhythms, and Peter Mulders’ powerful bass that gives Brutus its unique identity. The trio, though only three in number, creates an auditory experience akin to a 12-member ensemble.

Witnessing Brutus live is an experience in itself. Their recent performance was enveloped in an enigmatic darkness, illuminated sparingly. But this deliberate absence of front-lighting only enhanced their magnetic pull. The atmosphere they created felt almost divine, as though one was witnessing ancient deities presenting celestial melodies.

The Audiotree Sessions have long been known for presenting exceptional performances from diverse artists. Established with the noble intent of offering young bands a platform, Audiotree Music has grown into a significant pillar in the music community. They are committed to capturing genuine, intimate performances, providing artists with a professional studio experience at no expense. For those seeking fresh musical discoveries, Audiotree is the go-to destination.

Originating from various local bands, Brutus made frequent appearances in Belgium before marking their international presence with the release of their debut album, Burst, in 2017. This was followed by Nest in 2019 and Unison Life in 2022.

Their music, a harmonious blend of post-hardcore, post-metal, and post-rock, defies straightforward categorization.

Their unique sound, which has been described as a fusion of “post-rock, mathcore, black metal, and prog,” showcases their versatility and musical prowess.

In the end, what sets Brutus apart isn’t just their music but the genuine emotion and authenticity they bring to every performance.
