DEFEATER stopped at Audiotree Studios to record an intimate live session closing their recent US tour, the first big proper trek after announcing their partnership with Epitaph Records. The band’s frontman have just wrapped up his mini European solo tour and is about to hit our roads with the full band later this month – go here to see the details.
Audiotree commented:
Defeater is an experimental hardcore project centered around the story of a family from WWII. Based off characters from lead vocalist and lyricist Derek Archambaultโs life, the dense discography tells the familyโs tale through each memberโs eyes. Defeater donโt follow the trajectory that the scene has established; theyโre prone to immense experimentation both sonically and lyrically. Theyโve produced most of this dynamic tale in guitarist Jay Maasโ Boston studio, allowing them to reach a more clearly defined goal. Defeater has planned the storyโs trajectory since their inception, and continue to release conceptual records within the projectโs overarching story.
Defeater specifically tells the tale of a younger brother, born to an abusive, alcoholic father who is a war veteran. His older brother looks up to their father despite these problems and puts up with the mother despite her inability to remove them. The second release, โThe Lost Ground EPโ tells of a homeless street performer, the โProphet in Plain Clothesโ, who exists as an outside source for the whole story. Full-lengths one and two are from the younger and older brotherโs eyes, respectively, and the newest release โLetters Homeโ tells the story from the fatherโs perspective. Check out the band performing powerful tracks from across their career.
