ANTILLECTUAL – “I Wrote This Song” video

2 mins read

ANTILLECTUAL release a music video for “I Wrote This Song”, the second single from the band’s new album Engage!, which is being released worldwide on July 29th through Bird Attack Records (US), Redfield Records (Europe), Waterslide Records (Asia) and Fusa Records (South America).

The band commented:

This might seem a very personal song. And it is, but not only that. External negativity can bring you down and take away your ambition, pro-activity and energy. But this song is just as much about cynicism on a societal level; about groups of people who are being talked down for being “gutmenschen”; about having the intention to do well for others and engaging in the world around them; about people deciding to take a different path in their life, which might not be the most trodden path.
Maybe jealousy is the source of that negativity. A lot of the criticism is hypocritical, pointed at behavior that the “haters” manifest or manifested themselves in the past.
Sometimes it’s hard to fight those negative urges, especially in reaction to other people’s negativity. It’s easier to give in to them and continue the downward spiral than to turn it around into something positive. But this song was an effort to do so, and for this instance it worked.

Lyrics:

Nobody ever accused me of having the urge to be a romantic
Nobody ever accused me of anything close to being nostalgic
All I ever mean to be is purely optimistic
But I almost can’t recall when we were synergetic

‘Cause lately you only contribute hate
About what others contribute and create

All I want is to spread the hope
Negativity, I can’t cope
All I want is to prove you wrong
But instead I wrote this song

It’s that you’re doing exactly what you’re blaming others, they’re of no avail
In fact the worst part of this is you’re changing me into what shouldn’t prevail
Your pessimism infects me, transposes me into that sad minor scale
And I almost tend to what I can’t stand in detail

Antillectual from Nijmegen, the Netherlands plays a socially conscious, energetic blend of music. Creating their own unique blend of stolen riffs and borrowed song titles, while carrying the torch for European punk rock beyond their own country and continent.

Living in a world that is coping with conflicts and crises it is time to engage! Critical times call for critical music.

On their full length album Engage!, Antillectual have taken a complete new approach to creating and perfecting their sound. Not only does the band have the best line-up to date, for the pre-production of the new album the band created an all-star team covering the loud music area from left to right, from poppy to obscure. Songs are more fine-tuned than before; even more thought and effort is being put in. Of course there is still that typical Antillectual flavor. Yet, you will find that new toppings and deeper layers have been added, which you will discover after taking some more bites from the new Antillectual pizza. To top it off: Strike Anywhere’s Thomas Barnett and BoySetsFire’s Nathan Gray make their appearance on Engage!.
