Influential Gainesville, Florida based hardcore punk act AS FRIENDS RUST have revealed some details of their upcoming comeback record and an additional EP, to be released sometime later in 2019.
Vocalist Damien Moyal (check out our recent feature HERE) told No Echo:
We’ve played sporadic reunion shows and festivals over the years — Gainesville, Brooklyn, the Fest, Groezrock — and even a couple of tours in Europe and Japan, but yeah… this is the first real action we’ve taken toward amassing new material for a recording.
We’ve been quietly and steadily writing, demoing and working through songs, and now feel like we’re sitting on some really, really good stuff. So, it’s time. We fucking love this band, and since it seems like we’re gonna keep playing shows, we may as well get some new music out there.
We’re pretty close to having the writing for a new album completed, and starting to look into recording two songs for a precursor EP within the next couple of months.
We’re currently shopping labels and having a few conversations, but not yet settled on who we’ll be partnering up with.
The songs are a pretty perfect blend of the raw, energetic melodic hardcore of ‘Coffee Black’-era AFR and the slightly darker, gallows humor, snarlier, more polished rock ’n’ roll of the band’s later days from the Won LP or A Young Trophy Band EP. All of the traits that defined AFR’s sound and spirit are alive and well, and I really think these songs will be fresh and new while still striking a nostalgic, familiar chord.
“I don’t think any of us ever really left this band, and since our first reunion in 2008, we’ve been writing and tinkering with new songs. But we’ve finally got new material that we’re proud enough of and happy enough with to want to record. Also, we keep fielding offers for shows and festivals, and it feels silly to be ten years into reunion shows without anything new.”

This is a selection of poetry and photography that has been culled from a larger collection of journal entries, free writing, and photos that mostly manifested during a period of intense transition and processing from September 2016 to December 2017, with a few thematically relevant/connected prior writings thrown in as well. If you are looking at this book, you probably already know a little of the author’s background, and if you do, this will add context. If you don’t, it isn’t necessary.

New York’s emotive post hardcore rocker BAD LUCK is back with their new single “Wish We Still Talked”. Pressing play is followed by an immediate slap in the face on an early Friday morning. The song showcases the dynamics that made 2014 “Cold Bones” LP an underground hit. It breathes when it needs to and the hooks just keep coming around every turn. FFO: Taking Back Sunday, Joyce Manor, The Used.
Bad Luck. was a solo project from Long Island, then they were a band from Florida. While in the Sunshine State, they released Cold Bones in 2014 and Noise in Your Head the following year, two compact yet abrasive pop-punk releases that placed nostalgia and neuroses on the same plane. After those anxieties collapsed a hefty touring schedule and the group’s first taste of the industry ecosystem, Bad Luck. seemingly vanished, kept afloat by a whispering community of fans kept alive by their short discography. Having since returned to their home base and their homegrown mentality, Bad Luck. is looking to add to their short but sweet legacy and score a longer winning streak.
Anchored by brothers Dominick and Joe Fox and colored in by a rotating cast of touring friends, Bad Luck.’s second wind offers the same great pop hooks chased with hard-hitting backdrops that originally captured crowds’ hearts.
Catch BAD LUCK. live at:

VENOM PRISON first pummelled the jugular of the underground with a self-released demo Defy the Tyrant in 2015. They continued to rip through the touring circuits of the UK and Mainland Europe following up with The Primal Chaos EP. Once a steady and full line-up was established with the addition of bassist Mike Jefferies, the band then went on to release their debut full lengthAnimus on Prosthetic Records. This propelled the band into the spotlight earning them the prestigious Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best new band in 2017. With this recognition they continued their assault on the UK, Mainland Europe, North America and Canada with their energetic and passionate performances alongside many respected bands.
Emotive punk rockers RADAR STATE (members of THE GET UP KIDS, THE ANNIVERSARY, and THE ARCHITECTS) are straing their new record “Strays”, out now on Wiretap Records!
Radar State features Josh Berwanger (The Anniversary, Berwanger) and Jim Suptic (The Get Up Kids, Blackpool Lights) trading off lead and rhythm guitar duties, with Matt Pryor (The Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams) on bass, and Adam Phillips (The Architects, The Gadjits) on drums. Berwanger, Pryor, and Suptic all take turns on lead vocals, and that’s an integral part of the band’s direction, say the members.
“It was the most important discussion we had when first getting together,” says Suptic. “I love that we each take the lead. I also think it has challenged us to write better songs. If Josh walks in with a great song, then my natural instinct is to try to write a better one.”
Phillips agrees, acknowledging that each of the singers also has their own unique songwriting voice.
“Creative influence changes and adapts depending on what instrument you pick up or what situation you’re in,” the drummer explains. “This band is its own thing. We all try to play to each other’s strengths, but we haven’t really spent much time talking about how or why.”
The natural aspect of the band comes out in any discussion of Radar State’s music. The band as a whole agrees that this is something that just makes sense, given the fact that they’ve all shared the stage in some shape or form over the years. A sense of mutual appreciation and respect really drives the band, and the fact that all four are friends certainly helps.
“It’s funny we haven’t done something like this sooner,” Berwanger muses. “We all live close to each other and want to continue making music and there is no better way to do it than with not only friends, but people you respect as musicians and songwriters.”
With members name-checking The Damned, Pegboy, Undertones, Seaweed, Dillinger 4 — as well as a universally-held appreciation for ‘70s power pop — it’s unsurprising that Radar State’s sound is guitar-driven and hook-laden, reminiscent of vintage Lookout Records pop-punk.
After releasing their debut 3 Songs EP in 2017, the group played a handful of shows with stints as support including Say Anything, and performed at Riot Fest 2017. The band is back with their debut full length album “Strays” set to be released on January 11th, 2018 via Wiretap Records.
The title track from the album “Strays” is the first offering from the new record.
“Sometimes folks end up in difficult situations and they need to get out of. This song is about helping people even if you don’t get along with them. Having compassion for everyone that is in need of help.” Matt Pryor
Catch Radar State on tour supporting the new record from January 24 – Feb 9th. With stops in Boston, Brooklyn, Philly, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more.
Italian pop-punk act SLENDERS has revealed a video for “Close To”, first single taken from the album “Angry Youth” out on February 15th via This Is Core. The video – directed by Lucerna Films – was filmed between Sardinia and Genova, the track was recorded at Lambda Studio by Simone Dettori.
About the new song, the band says:
“‘Close To’ is the first track taken from our new album ‘Angry Youth’. This song is an enormous outburst for us, an outlet against a world that we live and see every day. This song is intended to be a journey within the life of an immigrant from his point of view. It denounces a political system that creates a common enemy in racism, fueled by hatred and ignorance. Is it really worth one more life than another? In 2018 died about 13,000 people in our shores. Souls, broken lives swallowed by the sea. We dedicate this song to them. We say stop to this. This is not a political question, but a question of humanity, and ‘Close To’ wants to be the voice of those who do not have it”.
UNWRITTEN LAW‘s “Unwritten Law” will be pressed on vinyl for the first time ever via SRCVinyl in celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary. The album has been mastered for vinyl and lacquers created by Kevin Gray, Cohearent Audio and pressed at RTI.
Constant touring and the support of fans have enabled Unwritten Law to rise above the glut of rock and punk bands that have saturated the scene since Green Day exploded in the mid-’90s. Songs like “Harmonic” and “Teenage Suicide” show a depth …of songwriting and arrangement that few other bands of the genre obtain. Scott Russo sings tight vocals over an extremely impressive killer rhythm section. “Cailin” became a staple on modern rock radio stations. Outstanding tracks include “Coffin Text,” “Lonesome,” and “Holiday.” UNWRITTEN LAW is a strong record from an extremely talented outfit.

Further promoting their acclaimed current album “To Drink From The Night Itself”, Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have now started a massive European tour together with Behemoth and Wolves In The Throne Room. AT THE GATES are now also releasing both a strictly limited 7″ EP entitled “The Mirror Black” and a special Digital EP entitled “With The Pantheons Blind” today. Enhancing the release of the EP’s, AT THE GATES are also debuting a video clip for the track “The Mirror Black” in the version featuring guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross). The clip was created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight13Media, who also is also responsible for the artwork duties of the entire “To Drink From The Night Itself” release. The video can now be seen below.
AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg checked in with the following comment:
“When we decided that we wanted to release the two Rob Miller tracks on a separate 7″, we felt that ‘The Mirror Black‘ was worthy of its own video. Costin was already excited about the idea, and I explained the basic outlines of the idea of the song. Working with Costin always brings in another dimension to our music and my lyrics; so he did his own interpretation of the main theme of the song. I am super happy with the result, I really think that this is one of the best videos AT THE GATES have ever done. There are a lot of hidden meanings and other symbolism in this clip, so you can watch it many times and still find new stuff. We as a band are super excited about this release!”
The new 7“ EP features the two songs “The Mirror Black” and “Daggers Of Black Haze” off AT THE GATES‘ current album “To Drink From The Night Itself” in the versions that come with guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross).
