Count Your Lucky Stars Records was founded in 2006 by Keith and Cathy Latinen as a way to release music by their own band, Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate). The label is based in Fenton and Williamston, Michigan, and grew with bands the Latinens encountered through touring. The catalogue remains rooted in independent emo and adjacent indie rock.
Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) sit at the label’s beginning, while Boyfriends, who shared members with 1994! and Snowing, collected their 2009 to 2012 songs on a 2021 release. Malegoat connect the label to Japanese mathy emo and punk.
Austin trio drunk uncle, whose “Look Up” came out on the label, treat emo with humour and chaos, while football, etc. revisit “The Draft” fifteen years later through memory and loss.
