Rock and roll developed from blues, R&B and country, with a strong backbeat, direct melody and simple blues-based structures at its core. Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bo Diddley were among the first-wave artists who established its basic language. Later rock styles kept returning to that rhythmic drive.
That later afterlife dominates IDIOTEQ’s rock’n’roll coverage. The Monsters bring garage punk and long-running underground touring into it, while The Downstrokes use the term in a direct garage-punk context. Speak For The Dead connect punk rock’n’roll with Motörhead-style drive, and Ruffian Dick pull in glam punk.
