Overcoming hard times with FOURTHSUN’s “Eclipse”

Fourthsun, a post-hardcore band from Lodi and Milan, came together in early 2022. The four-piece features members from the Italian DIY underground—Thørn, Eremo, Mindful of Pripyat, and Alzhemier.

Fourthsun’s sound feels like a ritual in chaos—raw, unrelenting, and charged with a dark, almost witchy energy. It channels the ferocity of Converge, hitting like a storm of jagged riffs and relentless rhythms, while weaving in the unsettling, brooding undercurrent of dark screamo. There’s a sense of violent catharsis in every track, a high-energy momentum that keeps it from ever slipping into monotony. It’s dynamic and unpredictable, like an incantation that’s equal parts hypnotic and terrifying, dragging you into its intensity and refusing to let go. Listen for yourself.

“At first, the idea was to write fast, short songs inspired by Birds in Row, but with all of us coming from different genres, the sound evolved into a mix of screamo, math, and post-hardcore, influenced by bands like Converge and Botch,” they explain.

This mix of styles and influences has led to Eclipse, their debut album, dropping January 30, 2025.

The record will be available digitally, on limited-edition tape, and on vinyl through No Funeral Records (Canada), Entes Anomicos (Germany), Shove Records (Italy), Flames Don’t Judge Records (Italy), Wrong Disk (Italy), and Rumori in Cantina (Italy).

The first taste of Eclipse came on October 31, 2024, with the release of the single “First Light” and its video, created alongside Machinal.is.

While not a full-on concept album, the themes of Eclipse are deeply rooted in struggle and resilience.

“The album deals with facing hard times in life and how hard it is to keep getting back up,” the band shares.

“We’re really happy with how the album turned out and can’t wait for its official release. The response at shows has been amazing so far, and we’re grateful for the faith so many labels have shown in the record. We love playing these songs live and are planning a lot more shows in Italy and abroad in 2025. We’re also already working on new material for future gigs,” they add.

Fourthsun is closely tied to the hardcore and screamo scenes in Italy, which they say have been thriving in recent years. “The Italian scene has been much more lively in the last few years, with many bands releasing great albums and being recognized abroad, such as Messa or Stormo.”

Locally, Milan is buzzing with younger fans and new bands. “The screamo/hardcore scene is particularly animated in the Milan area, with many younger kids showing up at gigs and starting their own bands, so things are looking good,” they say.
