I’m Doing My Part – 24-way mega interview with Zegema Beach associated artists!

Crowning are a Chicago screamo and emoviolence band whose work also pulls from post-hardcore and heavier forms. Their official discography runs from the early “Funeral Designs” period through the 2020 full-length “Survival/Sickness”, later splits and releases including “Rayau”, the Eyelet split and a 2024 split with Oaktails.

IDIOTEQ caught the band before the album with a 2018 video interview, then returned in 2020 for “Survival/Sickness”. The record runs for less than twenty minutes while circling violence, power, isolation and survival.

Crowning also appeared in the 2017 Zegema Beach mega interview, connecting the band with the wider international screamo network around that label. The latest release currently listed on the band’s official Bandcamp is the 2024 split with Oaktails.

IDIOTEQ (pronounce “idiotec”) is a phonetic transcription of the word Idioteque – the act of suddenly going into a crazy, seizure like state. A vision of a society, where people are increasingly more obsessed with pointless technology, selfishness and mindless entertainment than life itself.
