Fluff Fest 2019 🔥 20th Anniversary Edition: lineup & details wrap-up [UPDATE]

10 mins read

Having announced their 20th anniversary edition earlier this year, the crew of the one and only DIY punk festival Fluff Fest has revealed first details for the July 25th-29th gathering in Rokycany, Czech Republic. There’s no denying it now. Book it, save the date, and tell your friends, cause it’s gonna be massive! Check out the unveiled line-up below and stay tuned for more as this hot story is developing!

This year fest will spread over 5 days and will have events happening not only in Rokycany but in Prague as well. The fest will start on Thursday July 25th both in Rokycany and Prague. There used to be warm-up for early arrivals on Rokycany Airfield on Thursday. This year you need to make up your mind (and i guess it comes down to the form of your travel) Rokycany vs. Prague. The fest will also end in Prague. Monday July 29th will be last day of the fest, this time in Prague only. Some of the bands playing in Prague will actually play 2nd set in Rokycany, but some will only play Prague event.

Prague shows will happen at Underdogs’ Ballroom with second stage on Eternia’s half-pipe. That is basement and roof of the same building.

We do have headliners for both Thursday 25th and Monday 29th – both will ONLY play in Prague. Listener are going to headline Thursday 25th and Birds in Row are closing a whole festival on Monday 29th.

Tickets info:

There is no presale for now! Tickets are sold at the festival gate only, payment is only possible in cash. We accept both – Czech crowns and euros. The final price will be decided soon, but it shouldn’t be very different from last years and that was around €50 for the weekend pass.

There will be some changes to ticket policies as we are also doing Prague events as part of Fluff this year. There will be a full festival pass for sure and that one will be valid for both Prague and Rokycany, there will be one-day passes for Rokycany. We are yet to decide if the Prague shows will only be available to weekend pass holders or if there will be single day entry available as well.

The Prague events will have limited capacity.

More info about tickets, possible pre-sale (especially for Prague shows), final prices, etc will be announced closer to the festival.

LEECHFEAST
LEECHFEAST by Metal Warzone

Slowly stumbling in a procession, picking the falling petals rejected by wilting flowers that crown your head. Tell me, how long has it been since you lost your claws? Drowning under waves of condescending voices, sinking in a crowd, yet lonelier than ever. You had grown to like the chronic ache in your back, after all it feels good to have something enduring in a shamelessly temporary world. This fireless grey inferno. Sisyphus sheds a prideful tear as the doppelgänger swings a hammer at your swelling ankle. The clock has lost its mechanic heartbeat – it’s not that time stopped – you did.

STATE FAULTS

Santa Rosa, CA [CONFIRMED]

STATE FAULTS!

State Faults is a post-hardcore band from Northern California. Formed in early 2010, the group immediately began writing and recording music for what would become their debut EP, Head In The Clouds. The EP quickly spread through word of mouth and the band began to cultivate a devoted following.

In April of 2012 State Faults signed to North Carolina based indie label Tiny Engines and released their first full length record Desolate Peaks. After touring on the strength of the LP for the better part of a year, the band began preparing new material for their follow up record. They were picked up by No Sleep Records in 2013 and immediately entered the studio with bay area producer Jack Shirley to work on their sophomore LP Resonate/Desperate which they would release following their first full U.S. tour.

Two years after touring on the success of Resonate/Desperate with bands including The Saddest Landscape, State Faults entered a hiatus in 2015. Over the next four years, they would begin quietly compiling music for their third record. In January of 2019 the band returned to The Atomic Garden Studios with producer Jack Shirley and completed work on their upcoming third LP Clairvoyant that is set to be released via No Sleep Records and Dog Knights Productions on June 21st 2019.

SHIROKUMA

Söderhamn & Skärså, Sweden [CONFIRMED]

SHIROKUMA live by Ivan Zalizko
SHIROKUMA live by Ivan Zalizko

Shirokuma are a four-piece screamo band from Sweden that have been active since 2012. They play a very melodic style of screamo that incorporates elements of emo and melodic hardcore. With some very bright and noodly guitars, a flowing rhythm section, and some pain-stakingly shrieked vocals, they’re an absolute must for fans of fellow Swedish band and split-mates Suis La Lune. Other decent comparisons might be Raein, State Faults, Cavalcades, and Loma Prieta’s last album. If “melodic screamo” sounds appealing, it doensn’t get much better than Shirokuma. Enjoy. – Sophie’s Floorboard

UNIFORM

Brooklyn, NY [CONFIRMED]

UNIFORM live!

Following the release of critically acclaimed LP Wake in Fright, which had two songs featured in the new season of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, it was time for Uniform vocalist Michael Berdan and instrumentalist Ben Greenberg to return to the studio. The duo decided to up the ante and add a third member to help perfect their vicious post-industrial dystopian cyber-punk. After some deliberation, Greenberg called upon drummer Greg Fox (Liturgy, Zs) to help round out the sound they were looking for. Using a mix of triggered samples and real drums along with layered synths and good old electric guitar, the trio arrived at what would become The Long Walk after only a few short days in the studio.

From the opening whirr of the title track, it’s clear that the band is onto something special. Recorded in Strange Weather studios in the first part of 2018, The Long Walk is eight new tracks by the duo of Greenberg and Berdan, incorporating Fox’s skills behind the drum kit to add an entirely new dimension to the signature Uniform sound. Ditching sequenced tracks, Greenberg opted for single takes to highlight the Frankenstein-like guitar-bass-synth hybrid that oozes throughout the recording. Meanwhile, crushing guitar thunder is punched up by Fox’s masterful drumming while Berdan’s cries from the nether feel more desperate and morose than ever. This is Uniform at its most bleak, emotional, and powerful.

Lyrically, The Long Walk deals with paradoxes in spirituality and organized religion. Growing up in a devout Irish Catholic household in an Irish Catholic neighborhood, Berdan went to Catholic school for most of his primary education, and even was an altar boy. Fear of Biblical hell and damnation felt tangible. As Berdan grew and matured emotionally, he began to reject Catholicism bit by bit, viewing the church as a judgmental, repressive people who choose to live their lives dictated by hateful, fear-mongering dogma.

In the recent past, Berdan found himself slowly reconnecting with his Catholic background, observing how the faith that he found so repressive served as a great source of comfort and strength for so many. Eventually, Berdan began to view at the root of Catholicism and all major world religions a practice of love, tolerance, peace, and altruism. He began identifying as Catholic again, finding that basic tenets to be good guiding principles for daily life. Yet therein lay the contradiction that drove him from religion in the first place — many of the human traditions of the church also dealt in repression, intolerance, and bigotry, and some of mankind’s most hateful acts have been carried out in the name of God. Could one observe the rituals and practice of a faith while acknowledging and rejecting its ugliest elements?

The title The Long Walk comes from a Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman) dystopian novel about an oppressive government that forces some of its children to endure a grueling game where there is only one survivor. In this case, it’s an allegory for an extended march away from comfort, family, and faith, and eventually into an amorphous sense of spirituality that can be understood on a personal level.

TENGIL

« IDIOTEQ posts on TENGIL »

Swedish post-hardcore band Tengil is a constellation of musicians playing atmospheric, experimental heavy music that is at once nostalgic, quasi-symphonic and spiritually violent. The band tabs itself as “a spiritual task, an impulsion to through music tell the story of moments passing you by, the longing to live and die at the same time, to always be both among and in flames.” Despite its young age, Tengil as a collective has already performed over 50 concerts across Europe and released the full-length album “Six” (2015) as well as a slew of EPs and singles. The band’s Prophecy debut is titled “shouldhavebeens”.

“‘shouldhavebeens’ tells the story of two friends, three New Year’s Eves and one longing greater than life,” says the band. The record aims to speak about nostalgia, saudade, mental illness, decadence, the promise of tomorrow, and how our collective views of future themselves determine who we turn out to be.

Tengil’s eye-opening musical style has developed from raw hardcore to an almost heavenly wall of aggressive sound which takes center stage on “shouldhavebeens”. Commanding a mind-bending and dynamic meld of hardcore, rock, blackgaze and melody, Tengil weilds its wide-reaching range over varied tempos, electronics, and occasional pop moments executed with a raw energy that suggests a mash up of Dillinger Escape Plan and Explosions in the Sky. Although its delivery and musical approach is very different, the inherent self-confidence and captivating creativity that Tengil shows on ‘shouldhavebeens’, calls for comparison to Alcest and its legendary debut “Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde”.

With flowing grace and force of conviction, Tengil’s lush layers of sound crush and caress in equal measure. Explosive, angular, powerful and enlightening, “shouldhavebeens” propels the listener across multiple musical boundaries.

FIGHT/RESIST is an album that has to and will carve its name deep in the history of modern straight edge hardcore because it’s crafted with dedication, passion, outstanding musicianship and has the potential not only to spark a flame but to set on fire the wretched world we have to cleanse and reclaim – DIY conspiracy

There’s a triumph and honor in fighting a fight many have long given up. They’ve picked up the white flag and it’s become the rag for their Molotovs. Wake of Humanity are deadly serious, deeply dedicated, and armed with songs strong enough to soundtrack the fight for the world. – No Echo

FLUFF 2019

The festival has always supported a non profit organisation of our choice. This is where we will announce how, where and how much money will be donated this year.

We have some ideas about setting up a foundation connected to the festival. The foundation would be financed from the festival and would send money each year to support either an organisation, cause or even individual of our choice. We have always been connected to the animal rights movement but it doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to that.
