Dutch DIY label Smithsfoodgroup DIY enters its 10th year of existence with a bang! The label just released a great new compliation of various alternative acts worth a check in 2021: My Project Ghost, Mayleaf, New Favorite, To Adelaide, Indifferent Engine, Palm Reader, The Great Hurricane Escape, Dead Neanderthals, A Point Of Protest, Rites, Glass Mazes, Kelsey, Absentees, Second Guessing,  Designer Violence, Gizah, Dooie Mus, Unknown Bird, Glorious, To Live Among Wolves, and Hawser!

“2020 started out so well and by the time our first releases of the year were due, it all came crashing down.” – recalls on of the label’s co-owners Maxim Buise. “It’s been an extremely tough year for so many people and like in most West European countries the cultural scene was hit hard over here in the Netherlands. It’s been difficult navigating through this mess, especially with the uncertainty of how long this will take and for when you can plan ahead. We’ve got national elections coming up in March and I truly hope this will bring people together in a realization that we need to put our money where our mouth is and properly support medicare and mental well-being.”

“A release of early 2020 that had been in the works for about a year and then Corona happened is the My Project Ghost EP.”

Asked about noteworthy releases this year, he commented: “This British band, containing (ex-)members of Architects, Bastions and Good Tiger amongst others, had been on our wishlist for so long. We did a heavyweight 12” vinyl release together with Truthseeker Music from the UK late March and at that time attention obviously went to the virus instead. It’s such a good release and I’m still very stoked on putting it out.

In about a week from now another stack of vinyl will be finally with us: To Adelaide’s debut full length.

A Dutch band that’s a little more rock-y than most SFG stuff [GO HERE to see a special feature on IDIOTEQ]. We’re so excited to be working with them and the record will be available at all major Dutch retailers very early in 2021.”
