Beatdown hardcore is a mosh-focused branch of hardcore built around low-tuned riffing and breakdowns. The term comes from the 1990s New York hardcore scene and later broadened to cover a wider range of mosh-friendly, breakdown-fixated groups. The style represents the down-tuned, groove-driven side of hardcore, with early reference points including Bulldoze, Neglect and Next Step Up.
New Jersey band Sawd Off NJ sit close to that beatdown description. No Zodiac take another heavy-hardcore route. California’s Xibalba move between hardcore and extreme-metal weight, while Redound bring another European beatdown example.
