Zegema Beach Records has dropped a new split between caustic screamo bands мятеж and SYNODUS HORRENDA, bringing in a serious dose of heartfelt yells and intriguing melodies.

The split features just over 12 minutes of caustic, screamy and sometimes atmospheric hardcore. The 50 cassettes are each housed in a unique photograph (so there are 50 different covers!) wrapped around a black tape, all within a plastic, resealable sleeve. мятеж play dreamo-violence whose members have spent time in Yaphet Kotto, Makara, Jenny Piccolo and The World That Summer. From Baltimore, SYNODUS HORRENDA are a new band with members that have spent time in Eyelet, мища, Dawntreader and Sunners, to name a few. Their five debut tracks trade off vocals from June and Nick and generally are pulsating, raw and dirty screamo with a heavy emphasis on punk rock and hardcore.

Our favorite folk punk rocker Gab De La Vega has announced even more live dates for this September! There are still a couple of slots available, so don’t hesitate to contact him via epidemicrecords(at)hotmail(dot)com.

THE FLATLINERS’ Fat Wreck Chords debut The Great Awake turns 10! This September, the band will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough album and FAT debut, The Great Awake. To commemorate the anniversary, the label has pressed up a limited run of just 500 copies on a special color, as part of their unofficial “Fat Classics on Color” series. They commented:

In addition, we have a new entry in the official Original Demos Series: The Flatliners’ The Great Awake Demos. The band unearthed three demos which vocalist/guitarist Chris Cresswell lays out below, along with the band’s story of getting signed to FAT. This 7″ is strictly lstaimited. The 500 color copies are only available in the below bundle, along with the album’s color repress. You can also order a black copy of the 7″ by itself here.

Frontman Chris Cresswell commented:

“Our story with Fat Wreck Chords begins at the very end of the year 2006, when through some lovely people we got hooked up with Fat Mike’s email address, which is **********@********* . *

After hiring a group of top-notch professional musicians who were willing to work for nothing more than the bottom of an ashtray beer bottle and leftover Flats merch from a virtually unattended tour, we ended up with some great sounding demos. I mean these things were fucking mint. We then passed the songs along to Fat Mike under the ruse that it was indeed us on the recordings, and wouldn’t you know it, Mike loved them. Just loved them. He even told us he wanted to hear more!

Well, at this point we figured the was the jig was up. We were up shit’s creek for sure. The musicians we had hired had already skipped town, selling their Flatliners t-shirts at flea markets all around the world for top dollar (literally for $1 each), still sucking on those beer bottle cigarette butts just to get a buzz. After an admittedly mild but also group effort panic attack, we began to see this as an opportunity to make good on our promise, and—this time—send Fat Mike some songs that we indeed did ourselves.

Lucky for you, dear reader, what will, in some circles, go down as some of the shittiest recordings of our career, can now be heard in the comfort of your own home! The real upside though is in those tough-to-navigate musical moments, you can really hear us at our purest: sheer panic and complete confusion as to how we got there.

In the end, we were exonerated for our trickery and even rewarded for our courage, when Fat Mike told us of his desire to release these demos, along with the rest we sent him, as the actual Great Awake album. We begged and pleaded with him for an exorbitant amount of money to not only buy back our Flatliners t-shirts from the now burnt-out and career-hopping flea market queens and kingpins, but to also to record the album for real. And I think we all know how that turned out. Thanks a bunch Mike! I think we technically still owe you some money…”

Minneapolis gritty punk rockers THE SLOW DEATH have unleashed the full stream of their new LP Punishers, available now via Rad Girlfriend Records.

Newcastle, Australia’s fast & raw hardcore punk act RAGE have announced their debut EP “Feel The Burn” on Resist Records. The aptly named pack have unveiled the first track called “Control” and it’s a one hell of a ride! Listen and get more details below.

Originally conceived as a means to fill in free time as other bands slowed down, Rage was formed in mid-2016 and immediately got to work. Shows started to be booked after only a couple of rehearsals and a well received demo tape followed shortly after. Since then, Rage has been hard at work piecing together new music whilst playing shows with a wide range of Australian and International bands both locally and interstate.

With the release of “Feel The Burn”, Rage aim to deliver 5 cuts of slamming hardcore punk, influenced by American hardcore greats, British punks and Australia’s hardest bands. Initial production of the record was handled by Blake Ohlback (Choke, Homesick) and the record was then mixed by Chris Corry (No Tolerance, The Rival Mob) before being mastered by Dan Randall (86 Mentality, The Flex).

Too many bands have too many plans for world domination

These polished sounds they make for polished things

Written over long distance phone calls during the winter of 2016-2017, our debut EP focuses on some of the issues faced by us when dealing with the growing pains of starting college, making new friends, and feeling distant from home. No matter how far we were away from each other, no matter how much was going on in our own lives, we didn’t let anything prevent us from writing these five songs. We really hope this record connects with you, and becomes a part of your life the same way our favorite albums have become a part of ours. Recorded in June of 2017 with Jay Zubricky (Every Time I Die, Head North, Pentimento) at GCR Studios in Buffalo.

Bournemouth pop-punk band BUFFALO GO are delighted to reveal details of their debut EP Cave In set for release an independent release on September 5th, 2017. To celebrate, the band have revealed a music video for ‘Caught Up’, the first single from Cave In which see’s the band performing a fast paced rabble rousing track in the most natural environment for a pop-punk band – a packed house show.

Vocalist/guitarist Martyn Combstock explains:

“Writing songs is a cathartic experience and helps to release all the frustrations that we carry around. Caught Up, in particular, is all about dealing with the kind of people who try to hold you back for their own gain. Making the decision to better yourself and become a better person requires a lot of guts but all too often there are people that try to stand in the way. The song is all about keeping a positive mindset and pushing out negative influences so you can grow as a person.”

To support the release of ‘Cave In’, BUFFALO GO will be playing a select number of shows in September with more gigs to be announced in due course:

9/14  Nottingham, Tap ‘N’ Tumbler
9/16 Warrington, The Old Town House
9/17 London, New Cross Inn

Emotive ska punk rockers THE SIREN SIX re-release their 1997 album “The Voice With a Built In Promise” on vinyl via Jump Start Records!  It’s been 17 years since they last shared the stage together, and 19 years since their last proper release as a band, but all that will change August 2017 with the release of The Siren Six’s two proper studio releases The Voice With a Built in Promise, and Young and Professional on vinyl for the first EVER just in time for the band’s first show in nearly two decades with a two show reunion scheduled for Saturday, August 26th at First Avenue in Minneapolis.

The vinyl treatment of both The Voice With a Built in Promise and Young and Professional was undertaken with the utmost care attention paid to bringing the nearly 20 year old recordings back to life.

Longtime Minneapolis friend, Jeremy Trappero (Animal Chin, The Stereo), remixed The Voice With a Built in Promise from the original recording session tapes, and mastering was handled by Alan Douches at West West Side MusicYoung and Professional was also given a modern touch by Alan at West West Side Music, and the end result for both is a display of the band’s energy, passion, and ability to fuse pop hooks, mod rock, and ska sounds with an almost new found urgency. The vinyl version and newly available digital downloads of Young and Professional also include two additional tracks not originally found on the 1998 Kingpin Records release. Those tracks include the band’s versions of Jimmy Cliff’s “You Can Get It if You Really Want It,” which was originally released on the 1998 Vegas Records compilation Radiolistners Remix, and The Pixies “The Holiday Song,” which originally appeared on the Glue Factory Records Pixie tribute compliation Where is My Mind? A Tribute to the Pixies.

Introduced through an insightful interview for IDIOTEQ last year, Post rock experimentalists WE STOOD LIKE KINGS have announced the release of a new film music project entitled USA 1982, intended as an alternative soundtrack for the American cult movie Koyaanisqatsi directed by Godfrey Reggio. USA 1982 will be released on Friday, September 22, 2017 on CD, LP and digital via german label Kapitän Platte.

After BERLIN 1927 and USSR 1926, this third opus USA 1982 – the band’s most ambitious project to this day, a musical reinterpretation of a movie famous for its original score by Philip Glass – embodies the musical maturity of the band which since 2012 has devoted itself to the accompaniment of masterworks of silent cinema.

In 2017, despite celebrating its 35th birthday, Koyaanisqatsi remains profoundly modern. The relationship between humanity, nature and technology illustrated by Godfrey Reggio, Ron Fricke and co. in the movie finds itself at the heart of the challenges of today’s society.

At the crossroads between Chopin, Pink Floyd and Explosions In The Sky, We Stood Like Kings play instrumental progressive rock tinted with neonclassical influences thanks to the central presence of the piano.

Around 50 live shows are planned across Europe over the next 6 months!

Mike Patton’s DEAD CROSS have revealed the full stream of their debut record!

From its inception, expectations were high for Dead Cross, with many left guessing what sort of sound a band featuring Mike Patton on vocals, Dave Lombardo on drums, guitarist Mike Crain and bassist Justin Pearson would have. Their answer was to shake loose the white-knuckled grip of nostalgia that pervades our society and instead tap into the endless potential for uncharted, divine filth. Dead Cross’ debut self-titled LP vacillates from sounding like Godzilla attacking Tokyo to becoming the potential soundtrack of witches catching waves in a hurricane. Its highs are sharp and wicked, its lows ominous and evil, all the while laced with wit and, many times, an element of tongue-in-cheekiness not often found in whatever genre you may want to characterize this band as (Because really, where else would you hear the lyrics, “blow out the candles on the urinal cake” from a “thrash” band?). It is guitar, bass, and drums each acting as engines in a muscle car drag race. Schizophrenic vocals hurl themselves from all angles, Patton using his infamous dynamic range to act as master disorienting ventriloquist. In short, it is foul-mouthed, anti-fascist fun from start to finish.

Halifax indie pop band MAUNO have announced their LP, Tuning, with the premiere of the video for “Helah” on THE FADER. Shot at the end of a European tour the band went on in the spring supporting Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab the video, directed by Tom Chick, sees the members of Mauno exploring the small Welsh town of Harlech and the surrounding countryside. The environment provides a perfect setting for the song’s melancholy tone, its unsteady rhythms building toward crescendos that fold under their own weight as singer/guitarists Nick Everett and Eliza Niemi weave a delicate lattice-work of vocal harmonies, mirroring the desolate beauty of their surroundings.

Tuning is due out on Idée Fixe and Tin Angel on October 13th. In support of the release Mauno will be touring in Europe with Chad VanGaalen. Full details can be found below.

Swedish punk rockers SATURDAY’S HEROES releases new single and music video ‘The Shame’ from their upcoming album ‘Pineroad’, set for release on Lövely Records the 22nd September. The band is heading out in Europe and is now announcing their ‘Leaving Pineroad’ tour.

Saturday’s Heroes third album “Pineroad” is set for release the 22nd of September on Lövely Records. “Pineroad” is an homage to the street where two of the bandmembers grew up, a homage to the street, and to the house where the band still rehearse to this day. The home fond bands new album ”Pineroad” is filled with more aggression and rock’n’roll attitude. New bass player Daniel Wiggander joined the band as the new album was taking form and the band gained momentum with the new energy boost. ”Pineroad” is very much what is expected by a punkrock album in 2017 with a few twists and twerks. It´s a story about growing up, finding yourself and experiencing life.

The album was recorded by Joona Hassinen at Studio Underjord and mastered by Niels Nielsen. Artwork by Johan Lonegran. Saturday’s Heroes have been freqently touring in Europe for the last couple of years and is set to hit the roads again in October. The album was planned to be quickly recorded but when the work started it took the band almost a year to get all the pieces together to make it the album to celebrate their upbringing. For fans of Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Bruce Springsteen, The Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys, Rancid and Street Dogs.

Death metal veterans EXHUMED have announced their new record Death Revenge on Relapse Records and premiered a new vicious track called “Defenders Of The Grave”!

Lock the mausoleum doors and chain up the cemetery gates. Long-standing gore metal maniacs, EXHUMED re-emerge with their disgusting new album Death Revenge. The band’s sixth full-length sees them tread into ambitious new territory with their first concept album: a musical melodrama in thirteen parts based on shocking true events. Death Revenge takes place in the late 1820s in Edinburgh, Scotland and tells the macabre tale of a series of brutal murders where the victims’ cadavers were sold to anatomists, amid a grisly underground trade of grave-robbery. Recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Goatwhore, Eternal, Gruesome), Death Revenge takes the band’s signature gore-drenched, death metal mayhem to theatrical and ghastly new depths.

Canadian pop-punk quintet BEARINGS has joined Pure Noise Records’ diverse and growing roster! The band will make their label debut with a new EP called Nothing Here Is Permanent, which will be released on September 8th. They have released a new video for their brand new song “North Hansen”. Watch below.

“We are excited to release Nothing Here Is Permanent through Pure Noise Records. It’s great to have everyone around us just as excited for the EP as we are. We worked so hard to write something we’d be happy with, it feels great to finally be sending these songs out into the world.”
“”North Hansen” is the first song where I opened up about my dad passing away. I wanted to make sure everything felt right before I delved that deep into the loss I experienced. That being said, the song makes a clear point of letting the listener know, that things do get better, you just gotta hang in there.” – Doug Cousins (vocals)

GWAR have announced a new album called The Blood of Gods, slated for an October 20th release on Metal Blade Records.

The youth of America have been infected! As the stars of the 2017 Vans Warped Tour, your Lords and Masters have GWAR destroyed and pillaged the country all summer long, as only they could. Warped Tour fans and fellow bands alike were molested, mutilated and left emotionally devastated by GWAR’s performances from sea to shining sea. The one and only Beefcake the Mighty, “killed” Billy Hamilton the bassist of Silverstein and then took his place in the band, playing the band’s new single “Ghost”.

Following packed-out appearances at 2000 Trees and TRUCK festivals, Brighton indie pop trio TIGERCUB have revealed a stunning new video for their latest single ‘The Divided States of Us’ which is out now on all good digital streaming platforms and providers. As well as appearing at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festivals, the band are also pleased to reveal a run of UK headline tour dates throughout October 2017 (see below for details), with the new single alreayd picking up support at BBC Radio One from Huw Stephens and Daniel P Carter, John Kennedy at Radio X and crashing onto the Amazing Radio A List.

The track is the first to be taken from their brand new EP titled Evolve or Die set for release on 29th September via Alcopop! Records, and will be available on limited edition red vinyl and all good digital platforms. The first pay-what-you-want pressing sold out in a day to loyal fans via a physical pre-order letter campaign.

The new video is a reference to the white void prison scene from George Lucas’ film THX 118, as front man Jamie Hall explains of the concept: “I see this video as a fresh slate, like we’re building the band and everything surrounding it up from the ground again. We wanted it to feel like we were playing in a huge expansive digital cave.”

“It was filmed in HD in Brighton and then I ran it through a distortion app on my iPhone and basically fucked it up so as individuals we were being divided into three parts every time the music gushes and pours. It’s kind of a visual metaphor for the recording process for the EP in a weird way.”

27 Aug: Leeds – Leeds Festival

12/28 Huntington, NY @ The Paramount
12/29 Worcester, MA @ The Palladium
12/30 Sayreville, NJ @ Starland Ballroom

The band commented:

“Today we’re announcing our last shows for the year. Over the years we’ve used these shows to try out more ambitious set lists and to bring together diverse lineups and spotlight young bands. Glassjaw, Converge, Screaming Females, Circa Survive, Poison the Well, the Blood Brothers, Hotelier, the Gaslight Anthem, mewithoutYou, Lifetime and the Dillinger Escape Plan have all been part of these shows. This year we tried to reflect that mix of nostalgia and discovery by including our old friend Frank Iero (who I’ve known since I drafted him into joining My Chemical Romance, while we were recording their record) and our new friends, PUP (who blew us away when we played together at Northside Festival).

“Speaking of nostalgia, we’ve been discussing what to do about this Thursday reunion. This coming year, we are going to take the show outside of North America and play all the countries that embraced us so thoroughly ‘back in the day’. You can probably guess a few of them. ;-)

“The problem with nostalgia, and memory in general, is that it’s a destructive process. Much like recording over the same cassette, again and again, the quality degrades with each pass. Put in a modern way, our memory is like a hard drive: the more you try to fit on it, the further it compresses, lowering the quality of the new memory and the original experience, too.

“Rather than endlessly overwriting the original experiences that we shared with so many of you, we’ve been discussing how and when to wrap up this trip down memory lane. In the next year, we’ll be announcing our international tours as well as a final group of dates in the US, that will be totally unlike anything we’ve ever attempted to do.

“Beyond that, we will only return in the event of new music. And new music will only come if we feel it’s truly inspired and adds a new dimension to the band. In our humble opinions, there are only a few bands that have put out records worth coming back for. Bands like Portishead and MBV.

“We have loved every minute of these shows. We look forward to the next year and everything it brings.”

Canadian artsy indie rockers KAPTUR released an interesting, totally reimagined cover of :Dancing In The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen, with a whole different idea for its execution, including tempo, mood and instrumentation.

The ball has well and truly begun rolling for Sydney’s JUSTICE FOR THE DAMNED, and now there is no sign of it slowing. Half way through their sold out tour with Ocean Grove, they’ve shared just one more taste of their upcoming Greyscale Records release, with the title and opening track to the album, ‘Dragged Through The Dirt‘.

“We’re thrilled to release our title track from our upcoming debut album: ‘Dragged Through The Dirt’. Easily one of the most epic and cinematic tracks from the album. The song sings of losing a battle in life that we all face, one where we try to escape the toxic people in our life. Perfectly representing the themes in the rest of the album, we knew we had to show this to everyone now just before the album is released!” says guitarist Nick Adams.

The band  continue supporting Ocean Grove on tour this week where they roll into Adelaide on Friday, and Melbourne on Saturday, before taking off on their first Australian headlining tour, playing a range of AA and 18+ shows throughout September, joined by HindsightStaunch, and Honest Crooks.
