In hardcore and metal, crossover grew from bands pushing punk speed and attitude into thrash metal and bringing heavier riffing back into hardcore. The connection became especially visible in the mid-1980s. D.R.I. became one of the central reference points, moving from short hardcore songs toward longer pieces with more sections, tempo changes and metal weight, then naming their 1987 album “Crossover”.
Singapore’s Deceased connect crossover with a local hardcore history and classic metal references. Belgium’s Toxic Shock keep another long-running crossover line active, while Spoiled sit directly in crossover thrash.
Hard Stare used a release and playlist project to map newer crossover bands, and Ancestral Sin bring a thrashy hardcore gallop into the picture.
